  1. Next, he'll confuse an entire arena of basketball watchers.
  2. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 02:52 PM) We do? Gay people can't vote, have no rights at work, and regularly get arrested.
  3. Ladies and gentlemen, here we have one confused poster.
  4. Just keep digging.
  5. The employment/population ratio has now matched the 3-decade low that it reached 11 months ago, and therefore, employment/population has been awful and virtually unchanged for nearly a year.
  6. Hello, McFly...
  7. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 02:14 PM) Question for you guys in this thread.... when is the last time you've been THIS excited over an offseason? For me it's 2005 - not trying to draw parallels either, totally different circumstances, we were more frugal then anyway, now we're trying to be the Yankees or something - but in terms of filling holes with quality players, that's the last time I've been this happy as a Sox fan watching the offseason. This is f***ing great. I love it! Mark Teahen, come on down... I'm not all that excited yet. No where close to the pre-2006 offseason.
  8. For once, you and I agree. Let's trash the *&*^ place.
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 02:11 PM) Regardless, we could use two quality relievers and one of those should be a closer or a potential closer. Putz and another guy would be nice. If we go with Thorty, than the club will need Putz plus another lefty (since Sale is apparently starting). I only say that because we know Ozzie likes having two lefties in the pen. On this one, we 100% agree.
  10. QUOTE (TomPickle @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 02:04 PM) Matt Diaz made $2.55 million last year, how much do you think he'll sign for and how much do you think Andruw Jones will sign for? I don't really know the going rate of 4th outfielders around the league. Last year, in the "Fangraphs player value" world, Diaz was worth $2 million and Jones was worth $7 million. Diaz had a solid 2009, but was awful in 2008 and basically a backup in 2010. Jones has been a solid backup each of the last 2 years. I'd say Jones is probably a $4 million-ish player and I might commit $2 million to Diaz. I could be off on that though.
  11. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 02:07 PM) So what does our bullpen look like now? Seems a bit sparse. Right now: Thornton, Santos, Pena, and Infante are likely, Sale and Anthony Carter are plausible. You are correct that it is a bit sparse. However...it was a bit sparse before this trade as well.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 02:05 PM) We do it all of the time when it is the Federal Government... Yeah, Bush royally F***ed the country for a decade and he gets off scott free.
  13. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 01:56 PM) Is it worth noting that As and P are the same valence number? That's exactly why they're able to substitute for each other; they have similar redox characteristics and similar atomic sizes. But, they're not 100% the same on either of those, which is why DNA prefers phosphorus strongly. Carbon and Silicon have the same valence as well, but you're more familiar with how they behave; silicon tends to make rocks, carbon tends to make organic molecules.
  14. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 01:57 PM) What value is there in him lying about that? Does he feel it gives him more leverage? And if so, how? Unless you feel that he wants to move one of our starters and he can say, hey, I don't want to trade starter X and can't trade him because Peavy won't be back, so you need to blow me away? But I don't really think many GM's are going to fall for that. Ultimately, when it comes to any trade you need to determine if the other team is going to give you what you consider appropriate value and vice versa. Whether or not GM's fall for that, I think that's exactly what Kenny is doing. Otherwise...why would he have come out and said anything at all? There's no benefit to coming out and saying that Peavy won't be ready for April if he's not going to be ready, it puts us in a worse negotiating position in other ways, because teams will know that the Sox will be in the market for a 6th-starter type.
  15. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 01:51 PM) Omar is a zillion times better in the IF and Jones at worst probably costs half what Teahen makes. Dumping that piece of garbage and replacing him with Jones, then getting out of that 2012 commitment with some extra cash in our pockets makes us a better baseball team. With all the caveats possible, Jones was worth about $4 million in 2009 and $7 million in 2010 according to fangraphs. Some team with a OF platoon-type weakness ought to be giving him $4 million or so. I think he's actually an ideal fit for the Twins if they move Kubel and keep Thome.
  16. QUOTE (TomPickle @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 01:54 PM) He has a career .387 wOBA against lefties and he's played some RF before. I'd be alright with him being the 4th outfielder, but if you can bring back Andruw Jones for a similar price I'd rather have him as the 4th outfielder. If you can bring back andruw jones at a similar price, then the rest of the GM's in baseball are silly.
  17. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 01:49 PM) I think he will be solid. I don't think he's worth what the Sox were paying him and he didn't really fit our roll since we need more regularly consistent set-up guys. Since as of now we essentially have Santos and Thorty (thorty is a rock if healthy, but Santos is still very raw). I might be missing someone, but Sale is our 5th starter currently. I still think KW is flat out lying when he says Peavy won't be ready for opening day.
  18. By the way...everyone is writing down that they're not allowed to complain when Linebrink has a legitimate solid season in the NL, right?
  19. QUOTE (3E8 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 01:45 PM) Let's do this same thing with Teahen. Teahen is overpaid for his job...but being able to be a backup IF and backup OF in a pinch is really useful for that 4th guy off the bench. It makes no sense to dump Teahen if we have to send salary along with him.
  20. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 01:39 PM) What kind of impact does this have on 2011 payroll? Or is it too early to answer? We've saved somewhere between $0 and $5.5 million.
  21. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 01:30 PM) Cofield was one of six players in the Braves organization who played in the AFL. Apparently he has a good body type and nice velocity. Cox has liked him dating back to 2007/2008. This isn't a bad deal, especially if there is no salary involved. I wonder what he did in the AFL. Of course, KW gets an AFL guy.
  22. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 01:25 PM) If Konerko isn't resigned, then maybe more Kotsay at first base? Doesn't work, suddenly become too lefty-heavy and no one thinks Kotsay can stay healthy as a regular. If Konerko isn't resigned and no other FA 1b is brought in, then Viciedo is the obvious default option.
  23. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 01:24 PM) I was asking if Kotsay had been let go, I knew about Dunn. Kotsay was on a 1 year deal and is a Free Agent who was not offered salary arbitration
  24. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 01:23 PM) No Kotsay? Elaborate. Um, we signed Adam Dunn yesterday.
  25. Pinned for your celebratory pleasure.
