The Republican Thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 10:09 PM) Tell me a bigger problem in the current culture of politics. Not an issue - but a behavior, tendency, or method. The complete sellout of the government in exchange for campaign finance contributions and the explosion of this system of legalized corruption that we currently have. I don't think any other problem is even close. If I had to pick a 2nd...I'd go with the decline of the 4th estate as a skeptical organization and the rise of cheap and easy "he-said, she-said" reporting or the rise of "here is verbatim what their press release said" reporting. The idea that there has been this decrease in comity from an era like the last decade or two where we had things like the Willie Horton ad, the Southern Strategy, machines like the Kennedys, a Congress loaded with legitimate racists...etc. strikes me as wrong.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 6, 2010 -> 01:06 AM) If the Blazers are still going to trade Rudy, I'd off the Cats pick and maybe a second rounder. That would make the team complete. Rudy's already suggested he's unhappy with 25 mpg in Portland. He wouldn't get more than that on the Bulls. That ship has sailed at least until the deadline.

Official 2010-11 NFL Thread
QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Oct 6, 2010 -> 02:36 AM) No kidding. Hell they pawned Moss off for a 4th rounder a few years back in the first place. Wouldn't surprise me if they could net a 3rd-4th rounder for him. Their personnel is one of the smartest in the game. I believe it's supposedly a 3rd rounder.

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 06:40 PM) Exactly, and I'd add that this hyperbole and run to the gutters we see from both parties in the past decade or two is the single biggest current problem in politics in this country. The single biggest current problem? I think that's hyperbole.

If the Sox don't re-sign Konerko...
QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 04:26 PM) if you have a bunch of professionals on the team who play the game the right way, and do not cause any off the field trouble, it's really hard to just start hating someone. I can't stand how the Yankees have words with the ump after every single called strike.

If the Sox don't re-sign Konerko...
QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 04:04 PM) Do the Dodgers actually have a problem with Kemp or was it just a conflict with Joe Torre? What evidence is there that he's on the trading block? They pretty much played him every day in September, from what I recall. He homered in 5 straight games to end the season. The GM publicly ripped him earlier this year.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 03:51 PM) Thinking about the last iteration of this thread, I recall you made a better effort in providing quality responses. No acronyms from what I recall. Unless I'm mistaken, I used just about everything. In particular, getting the X was always difficult.

Marshawn Lynch to Seattle for a 4th rounder. Good news for Bears fans is he isn't going to GB.

Players who failed when it counts/against the Twins
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 02:22 PM) I never said "there's no accountability amongst the players!" I said there is no accountability at all. I want KW or Ozzie gone. They might try to spin the subtraction of one of the players like Kotsay (who is a no-brainer to be gone) as showing accountability, but that is about the least you can do. And there's the problem. You can't hold the people who actually personally did the failing accountable. You can't release D1 and Floyd as punishment for the fact that the Twins murder them regularly with the bats. You can't dump Matt Thornton the day after the Thome HR. You can only blame Ozzie for decisions that indirectly affected the games, like having Floyd and Danks face them. It's not deck chairs shuffling on the titanic...but I think you get the point. You want accountability, but it's impossible to hold the people who actually directly did the failing accountable.

Players who failed when it counts/against the Twins
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 02:03 PM) I'm saying that they will make no meaningful changes. They will cut the dead weight, as they should, but there will be no accountability for the continual failure of this team to make the postseason. What player would you recommend removing based on his failure to perform this year? John Danks? Gavin Floyd? Paul Konerko? Matt Thornton? Don't just say "there's no accountability amongst the players!", you have to say who you want gone and how dumping that player would make us better.

Players who failed when it counts/against the Twins
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 01:46 PM) What I'm saying is that they'll cut meaningless guys. They'll get rid of players like Kotsay and Jenks, the no-brainers. The closer is a meaningless guy? He was a key part in the vs. the Twins meltdown(s).

Players who failed when it counts/against the Twins
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 12:57 PM) Yes, they certainly did. The problem I have with it is that we don't seem to embrace the idea of accountability. During the offseason, they'll cut ties with a player or two and use that as the bare minimum of accountability. Really? They'll cut ties with a single player or two? When does Kenny Williams not substantially overhaul his roster in the offseason?

Rick Hahn
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 12:22 PM) Oh, so he only work on new or renegotiated contracts? I thought maybe he was involved in finances of trades such as getting the other team to send back cash. He may well be involved in the finances at some level...but if nothing else...we watched who made that deal.

Official 2010-2011 NCAA Basketball Thread
QUOTE (dasox24 @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 06:57 PM) Um, not really. I don't think being sleazy is a reason to not be supportive of a coach. Has Pearl done some shady things in his career? Sure. But if he was caught paying players a million dollars, then yeah, he should be fired. Was it a shady thing to have recruits over to his house on unofficial visits? Yes. Is that reason enough to not support him as my coach? No. You aren't the guy at the gym wearing the fancy-looking Sox hat are you?
