Giolito leaves with injury, being evaluated
Does todays opposing starter count?

No, but it would have turned out that it probably sends the game to the 10th. Not exactly one that you can predict, not worth more posts about it than this, but in the end it was a factor.

I can almost guarantee that starting Engel and Pollock regularly every day will lead to us wondering how we could possibly have both Engel and Pollock hurt at the same time.

You are correct, the bullpen stank today. That doesn't mean that having Pollock in RF rather than doing a switch for defense when your team had the lead wasn't a factor at all.

So literally the same stuff as last year?

I feel like he'd have gone to the coaches and say "man I'm cramping up, I can pitch through it but what can I do" and then LaRussa would be saying "We pulled him because he was cramping up and we wanted to be extra careful", not "He knew something felt wrong"

That would depend on severity I'd guess.

I don't know that Giolito would have asked out if he thought it was just a cramp.

Same thing as Moncada?

What's the old school rule, play for the tie at home and play for the win on the road? When you have the lead that would say "put in your better defender don't wait for the 10th".

His stuff looked fine. He had zero control...after a short spring training, coming in with the bases loaded in the 8th inning, probably with a short warmup, on a 45 degree day, while having to throw 1.1 innings to get through it, and with Grandal struggling to block stuff. Today sucked. He struggled with HR last year, that could still be a concern this year, but his fastball was still 99. Today's one day under rotten circumstances, so I'm not going to judge that this is any sort of long term trend.

But the White Sox won't be able to get their bullpen guys rested before they play the Cubs on...May 3.

Pollock could have actually gotten that if he jumped, couldn't he?

That also explains why Pollock seemed to miss it.

Oh yes please put Soto back out there for Robert, Abreu, and Grandal, with a runner on 2nd.

You have to do Ruiz and hope for the best. Don't want to burn Lopez today for 1 inning when you probably need him on Sunday for >1.

Ok, I don't remember a Banks existing. Thanks. Banks.

Ok, who is left in the White Sox's bullpen? Lopez, Ruiz, anyone I'm missing?
