  1. Was that Konerko covering 2nd? WTF Beckham?
  2. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 08:50 PM) I noticed that Gordon's looking directly at the pitcher in his stance, I guess his head was moving far too much before. Watch his left shoulder, it stayed perfectly shut.
  3. Those were 2 great swings by GB.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 08:49 PM) Omar Vizquel makes Jayson Nix look like a hitter. Success!
  5. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 08:47 PM) Alexei, keep it rockin. Quick, someone talk smack about Vizquel not being able to hit his way out of a wet paper bag. Omar Vizquel makes Jayson Nix look like a hitter.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 08:40 PM) Another blown double play. Thanks PK for adding to my comment from earlier today. That was a routine pick. Yeah, and you gotta remember, one failed pick is a real dent on a guy who's supposed defensive addition is nearly always making the pick.
  7. Great. We managed to walk Vlad.
  8. There are what I would call rumors at this point circulating that another convoy will be headed for Gaza in a few days time. Escorted by the Turkish Navy. Mind you...Turkey is a member of NATO. As is the United States of America. And Article 5 of the NATO charter says, essentially, an attack on 1 NATO country is an attack on all of them.
  9. I also found this to be an enlightening read on the raid itself.
  10. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 04:24 PM) Just no way FDR would have put his entire pacific fleet at risk. Had the US known, you would have seen most of the battleships, etc not in the harbor that day. People still would have gone for war, you just wouldnt have had to rebuild the Pacific Fleet. If FDR managed to not only bring the U.S. into the war, but also managed to arrange for the Japanese attack to happen on the one weekend where his carriers were off not only doing exercises but also delivering fighters to Wake, such that zero of the U.S. carriers were hit...then he's not only an incredible manipulator, he's the greatest military strategic mind since Alexander, because he would have had to have foresaw the end of the Battleship as capital ship and its replacement by the carrier before anyone else other than Yamamoto, to the point that he was willing to gamble everything on his carriers not being caught.
  11. For more details on why going through Israeli checkpoints for aid deliveries really isn't an honest option, I'm going to go with this summary of the type of things being blockaded from Globalsecurity.org (note that it's not a liberal website in the least). The basic message is...the blockade is so stringent, that even if most people would label things like construction materials and most foodstuffs as humanitarian, Israel has been blocking it.
  12. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 05:20 PM) The defense is better than last year but it still needs to be better. The thing I keep coming back to is...Teahen has not only been bad, he's been awful compared to Mark Teahen at 3b from previous years. If he was even performing like he had in previous years (slightly below average rather than one of the worst in baseball) our defense would take another big step up, because suddenly the only real weakness would be Quentin in RF, and he's barely a starter out there any more.
  13. QUOTE (Cali @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 05:15 PM) I just dont understand why the fanbase can come out for the final vote which is basically a back-up with no guarantee of actual playing time, but not for one of our guys to actually start the game? What's the issue? Apathy? Until the field can be narrowed down for only a few guys for one spot we wont vote? (hint, hint, that's one of the changes I want for the normal ballot) When is the last time we had a guy who was clearly the best at his position, on the ballot, in a year where the team was good? Dye in 2006?
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 05:11 PM) Look what has happened in recent All Star years - when a Sox player is in the final vote, they have done far better than they should have. The fan base comes out, and I can honestly say I think that SoxTalk and WSI helped that along. Get a few thousand crazies voting a few thousand times, and telling their friends to do ths same, and it can make a difference. But you have to motivate the crazies. Right now, I'm not.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 05:07 PM) I'm not sure where you keep getting this defense thing. Other than Teahen, the defense has looked average or better to me. Alexei is his usual self, making spectacular plays and messing up easy ones. Beckham has been fine defensively. Konerko is above average, so are Rios and Pierre, thus far. Quentin not so good, I guess you can add him to the below average. Jones and Kotsay have been fine when playing. Vizquel is Vizquel. Overall, that's an average defense, maybe a little better than average if you take Teahen out of the equation. It's somewhat impressive how much UZR agrees with you. It disagrees on Konerko being above average, thinks the same about Kostay in the OF, Teahen and Quentin have been the real weak points. Alexei slightly above average, Beckham sitting basically at average, Pierre and Rios tearing it up.
  16. Brains would help also. This is totally NSFW. Seriously. So NSFW that I'm not going to embed, I'm going to link, it's from the Youtubes. A simple discussion of f***ing proper f***ing booming, and how there are zero pictures of it from the Gulf...because there has been none of it done.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 04:57 PM) Lots of that is canceled out by giving up extra bases with a complete lack of an arm IMO. UZR includes throwing arm, and Pierre has the highest UZR on the team. (note; that doesn't mean he's the best defender on the team, that means the difference between the average LF and Pierre is the highest on the team).
  18. QUOTE (Cali @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 04:55 PM) Also it seems like the White Sox just don't have a lot of fans. You're saying the Rangers and Brewers stuff the boxes all the time. We Sox fans are the nerdy kind on a message board who call for stuffing (this thread included) and can barely crack a top 15 with the votes, what does that say about the fanbase? (P.S. I do realize the irony of me saying we dont have enough fans while just having said i wont vote....) We've stuffed boxes for the final vote repeatedly. We just right now haven't gotten enough reason to start caring. Go on a 10 game winning streak and I might suddenly find motivation to start GOTV efforts.
  19. CNN pieces on Democrat exaggerating his military service: 11. CNN pieces on Republican doing so: 0. The sad thing? Fox actually was better than CNN. Fox actually mentioned Kirk; CNN didn't.
  20. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 04:44 PM) Teahen has given up more than the average, but other guys are giving up less than the average so the weighted hole is only 4.6 above average. Basically, if Teahen had been as good at 3b as he had been the last year or two, we'd be an above average defensive team.
  21. How you can mention D2 without talking about the strikeout issue I dunno.
  22. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 04:22 PM) Which happens to be the most important series of the season... For 2 teams.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 04:34 PM) Or any kind of regulatory effort what so ever... Huh?
