  1. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 04:12 PM) That kind of stuff really pisses me off, since this game actually counts for something. Only if you make the world series.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 04:08 PM) I can't argue with that. I can't tell you how many runs we have given away this year, that didn't show up as errors. Right now, UZR has us slightly below average on fielding, giving away 4.6 runs more than the average number.
  3. QUOTE (KipWellsFan @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 03:57 PM) True, but can't he be chosen by Girardi? He will be. Who else on this roster deserves to be an all star? (now that D1 has fallen back in the ERA race)
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 03:50 PM) Screw that, starting this week, they should try to pull everything with authority. Getting cheap hits to right isn't going to teach them to stay closed at the plate (they're both flying open big time). Huh?
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 03:28 PM) Sems to me this is an example of both sides being intentionally stupid. You have this "peace flotilla", who decided to run the blockade, knowing full well they risked a conflict. You have the Israelis deciding to take poorly planned military action, knowing full well it would have consequences (negative ones) to their own standing and security situation. And whichever side had the goal of finally getting international attention on Israel's year and a half long blockade of Gaza (i.e. the blockade runners) has fully achieved their goals. They knew exactly what they were doing. They baited Israel into responding, and Israel wasn't smart enough to not take the bait. Not only that, but they weren't smart enough to have any plan for how to respond to this type of provocation other than with the worst possible option; killing a lot of people who didn't have guns.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 02:42 PM) it wouldn't surprise me at all if he knew Pearl Harbor was coming ahead of time. There is zero chance any leader would have left his navy exposed in that way if he had an inkling of a time or a place.. Not the entire fleet. They knew that a Japanese first strike was a strong possibility. But that was why the fleet moved to Pearl; to respond to a potential first strike
  7. QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 02:26 PM) Semi serious question- Can we just leave it because it looks cool? It's probably likely to grow with time if unrepaired, so it'll look less cool, and there's a fair number of, you know, other structures in that area. You certainly "Could" leave it, but you have to live with consequences.
  8. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 03:09 PM) then complaining to the UN or something, but instead they chose the plan with violence in it. Complaining to the UN is utterly worthless regarding Israel because every complaint runs into the US's wall of protection.
  9. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 02:11 PM) If the goods were purely humanitarian in nature, why did they not take the israelis up on their offer to offload the goods at port and have them transported across the border by land? Because virtually nothing has been getting into Gaza through that route. It all gets hung up. That one there's a good answer for; it's been a full-bore blockade.
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 02:30 PM) Obama sending more bodies, but I'm not sure what they are going to do. There is an enormous amount of beach cleanup and boom deployment that isn't being done right now that could be done.
  11. QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 01:55 PM) They brought Beckham up last year as a band aid and now the band aid is falling off. Let him re-build his confidence and find his swings in Triple A. There is nothing wrong was that. If you leave him up in the bigs for to long, you run the risk of ruining him for good, see Fields, Josh; Gordon, Alex. I think that you can say a lot of things went wrong with Josh Fields...but I don't think "Leaving him up in the bigs for too long" was one of them.

That was his mistake, carrying too much cash and paying for stuff with it.

My only knowledge of Moscow is of a co-worker who was robbed there.
  14. QUOTE (chisoxt @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 01:16 PM) My theory is that Kenny will use Morel as a trading chip (later this month perhaps) and wants to keep him in the minors so that he does not expose his flaws. Typically, if Kw's doing that, I don't think the guy gets a promotion up to AAA, I feel like we start wondering why he's sitting at one level. Case in point: Gio, Carter, both could have been promoted but we held back and kept their numbers up at the level they were beating.
  15. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 12:44 PM) In that case, Jones would likely be moved as well. Wouldn't be surprised if PK were shopped either. Eventually a lot of guys could be moved, AJ's the one to focus on because he has the June 13th deadline.
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 01:00 PM) There's absolutely no basis for your comment and in the exact article you link to it's stated rather clearly. And you don't think there's ever been a case of the police casually covering up for famous people who get caught breaking lots of traffic rules?
  17. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 12:58 PM) A. Where does that hole go? B. How does one fill that? A hole like that is produced by dissolution of the rocks below the surface over time, usually by flowing groundwater. It likely goes down and enters into a cave system, which may be just a small crack at some point. You can't exactly fill it completely, but you start dumping in rock, starting with coarse grains and then fining upwards, to rebuild the ground. With one that big, I wouldn't be surprised if dynamiting the sides to cause a cave-in was necessary.
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 12:57 PM) Are you certain? Yes. If you really cared I could have prattled on about Karst development, groundwater acidity, and dissolution timescales. I just figured I was better off pointing out the variables necessary and leaving them at that.
  19. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 10:38 AM) That's a damn big sinkhole. Makes me wonder why we didn't see anything like that after what happened in Haiti. Producing a sinkhole like that requires a certain type of underlying rock and certain conditions for a long time.
  20. QUOTE (hogan873 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 10:46 AM) The one incident that I truly believe involved some government coverup was TWA 800. There was just way too much information out there about the possibility of the plane being shot down by the Navy. IMO, based on t he investigation, not a chance.
  21. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 10:32 AM) I guess they didn't expect a brawl to break out. Of course both sides expected a fight. They were trying to run a blockade. The blockade itself is an act of war, as is trying to run it.
  22. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 10:25 AM) So the Golden Boy is going back to the minors? Has anything been announced yet? Not necessarily, this could easily be a sign of a DL trip for Teahen. Supposedly he had X-Rays on his injured finger yesterday.
  23. Tyreke Evans got a 100 mph speeding ticket. Have to wonder if this might have been a "wink wink" dui case.
