  1. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 11:54 PM) Are you high? Seemingly yes, considering how vehemently you're disagreeing, and I don't think I'm wrong.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 11:53 PM) Somebody said Manny Acta wouldn't bunt. The exact f***ing same thing. All managers bunt in that situation. Believe it. The bottom half of your order with a guy not named Juan Pierre is different than the top half of your order with a stolen base threat at 1b. Would Acta have taken the bat out of Sizemore's hands if Cabrera got a leadoff walk?
  3. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 11:51 PM) Ah speed and defense......neither of which the Sox have the necessary amount of Do you actually think the Indians have more speed than the Sox?
  4. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 11:50 PM) They bunt twice, they have a guy at second. Their bullpen worked out of this same jam while facing better hitters.
  5. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 11:47 PM) The bottom of our lineup is filled with automatic outs. Sadly, on paper, it isn't.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 11:44 PM) Rios has no plate coverage Rios just doesn't know where this strike zone goes. Neither does anyone else playing today.
  7. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 11:40 PM) Who is left in the pen? Linebrink and Pena? Putz should still be usable in the 11th. If those guys were any good at all, they could push you to at least the 14th. Of course...the stretch is those 2 not sucking.
  8. It appears to depend on the stadium. Yankee stadium bans them. San Francisco provides free Wi-Fi. You may want to try emailing [email protected].
  9. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 11:35 PM) The only players on this team who should ever be bunting are Pierre, Alexei, Kotsay and AJ. Teahen's questionable. Teahen put down a nice bunt in the spring. I wouldn't mind Ramirez bunting, except for Pierre hitting behind him.
  10. The exact numbers...a runner on 1st and 0 outs, teams score on average .783 runs, a runner on 2nd and 1 out teams score .699 runs on average, a runner on 2nd and 0 outs teams score 1.068 runs. Basically, I think you have better odds with a 75% base stealer running than you do with the bunt.
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 11:29 PM) Ya, but everone is just assuming it is easy to steal a base. Pierre is awesome and I think you might give him a shot to steal the base, but I understand the call too. It isn't just easy to steal a base, no matter how fast or good you are at it. And you can't just steal them on command either. If you want to think about the %ages...from what I've read, the odds of scoring 1 run with a runner on 2b and 1 out is typically around 50%, slightly higher than the odds of scoring 1 run with a runner on 2b and 0 outs. If Pierre is a 75% stolen base guy, then he gives you a 75% chance of a runner on 2b and no outs. That has to push up the "scoring 1 run" rate by a lot.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 11:26 PM) I'm surprised you guys don't realize it's up to our players. Man on second, one out ain't bad odds. A good team gets the single and wins it. You know what player I think has a really good shot of getting that single? Beckham.
  13. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 11:26 PM) Even if you stole the base and than bunted...they'd still have walked Quentin and there is a shot they'd have walked Paulie too to face Andruw Jones. Who cares? You've got the runner on 3rd with less than 2 outs. I'd take that situation over any setup with the guy on 2nd. Hell, I'd take Kotsay batting in that spot. A weak ground ball wins the game.
  14. Konerko got really pissed at Pierre there for dancing around at 2b.
  15. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 11:24 PM) Sometimes you bunt because it is the safer play. I'd think about sending Pierre but I can't get too pissed at this move because it is a solid move. Maybe not the best move given how solid Beckham is, but there is no guarantee he steals the base. It isn't like this is the dumbest possible decision ever made. Torre, LaRussa probably make this move, same with Bobby Cox. Scioscia would too. 4 of the best in baseball would so why am I gonna rip the s*** out of Ozzie for doing it? I think that they might hesitate if they were holding Beckham, unless they didn't have confidence in his ability to hit the ball to the RH side.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 11:24 PM) Put it this way...if he didn't have Beckham bunt in the 7th, but did in the 9th, I would have been ok with it. I just don't want to see this be a common theme. You know bloody well this is going to be normal.
  17. I remember the good old days of 2006 or so when Podsednik would get on base, Iguchi would bunt him over, and then they'd just walk Mr. 1.015 OPS to set up the GIDPK.
  18. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 11:22 PM) I'm not saying I'd have done this with Beckham up, but I understand the logic in it and I don't think its a terrible move. Now we have 2 guys up (2 of our 3 best bats) and all it takes is a basehit by one of them and we win. Or you take the bat out of one of their hands and set up the DP.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 11:22 PM) And a good manager would walk Quentin here, effectively taking the bat out of the hands of our 2 best hitters. Milwaukee played this same way a few seasons ago, and Fielder/Braun suffered because of it. You're saying Konerko's not one of our 2 best hitters right now?
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 8, 2010 -> 11:21 PM) To face the hottest hitter on the team? Actually, now that I think about it, you're right, that sets up the GIDPK.
