QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 03:54 PM) Yes, he's not the same pitcher. Yada yada yada. -
QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 03:50 PM) Who gives a s*** about the stats. I'm just going off how certain players looked in their at bats. Hell of a concept, huh? And Beckham hasn't looked like an all-star to you?

QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 03:48 PM) From what I saw of Andruw Jones throughout spring training, he's much better than just a .220 caliber hitter. A good 30 to 40 points better. I don't know how this is even arguable. I also don't know how Kalapse and Balta thought I was basing my opinion on the first three regular season games. I thought that y'all were much smarter than that. Hammerhead...here's the thing. I think Jones will probably be better than a .220 hitter, although if he is a .220 hitter I'd expect it's a powerful .220. But you have less evidence that Jones is better than a .220 hitter than we have for Beckham being ready to be a .300 hitter. Beckham hit .286 after he got over his initial first 30 at bat slump last year. Beckham hit .290 in ST. You can't possibly argue that Jones is a .275 hitter and then refuse to think that Beckham could be better than .270.
-
Pierre was 6/8 on stealing bases in ST.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 03:42 PM) Forgot he pinch hit. I got to correct kal! Yay!

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 03:30 PM) Need to win this one, as Garcia against this lineup tomorrow won't be pretty. Career...the guys on the Twins have a .663 OPS against Garcia and a .916 against D1. Mauer's the only one who's hit Garcia hard. Yeah, Garcia isn't the same pitcher, yada yada yada. -
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 03:40 PM) All 5 plate appearances? 6. He had a HBP in there as well.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 03:33 PM) I'd have showed up to the midterm with a large mop bucket. "Professor, I can stay and take this test if you want, but I guarantee this bucket will get filled by the time I'm done." I think most profs understand that these sorts of things can happen...but they also know that if they let 5 people try the same excuse, at least 1 of them is likely to be B.S. That's why I said...if you're missing a test, and you're the one with documentation saying "I was sick as a dog", then I'd know you weren't the B.S. one.

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 03:30 PM) Not if done correctly. "Cut my milk!"
-
Vizquel unless he doesn't play. Ramirez if Vizquel is somehow not.
-
Ramirez
-
Pierre
-
QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 03:27 PM) 3) Eat cereal and milk. Eating milk sounds difficult.

The AP has another one with Ratzinger's name on it.

Let's go D1. -
QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 03:13 PM) We already covered this, though. Left-handed pitcher with a balkish move to first that doesn't get called. I'd have been hesitant to steal as well. I understand hesitation, but I just want to put it this way: if Juan Pierre can't steal 2nd base in at least 1 of those 2 spots, then I want Ely back.
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 02:57 PM) Not when you're taking the bats out of your two best hitters hands. Or if the guy at 1b can steal 2b at a high success rate.
-
It never hurts to actually have gone to a doctor/health center.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 02:45 PM) health care was going to be done last summer. They got Sotomayor's nomination through on schedule though.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 02:34 PM) I actually would have liked to pinch hit for Konerko there too...Konerko is now 2-11 against Lewis, although he did hit that change-up pretty hard right at Sizemore. The way I see it is if we are going to pay guys like Kotsay 1.2 million or whatever to be solid bench players, we need to utilize them as such, regardless of whether it is a move that takes a guy like Pauly out of the game or not. I'd much rather see Kotsay in that situation than starting 2-3 times a week. To me, using Kotsay as an effective bench player means that Konerko plays at DH at least 2 times per week.
-
QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 02:22 PM) At which point I wouldn't mind seeing Kotsay off the bench to pinch hit for Konerko, which of course will never happen, even when it is possible, Kotsay PH for Konerko? Seriously? Kotsay was grounding out to infielders on things that should have been double plays like he'd been practicing it all spring.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 02:13 PM) well, in this situation, they are going to threaten no anyway, they'll be right around election time. The sound of it so far is that the Dems want to get this done fast, perhaps before the Court's term ends. If it goes to the Fall, 1/3 of the Senate will be off campaigning, so it'll be almost impossible to have anyone in place before the start of the Court's next session. And Stevens is actually leaving in June, he's not staying on until the replacement is named like O'Connor did.
-
QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 02:16 PM) I really hope Ozzie will tinker a bit through April and May. I hope that some of the guys who are helping us to a .158 team batting average pick it up, so that Ozzie has the opportunity to tinker, rather than just having to bench guys for hitting .100.
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) I actually think he's been moving pretty decently out there. He's probably still the worst of the 4 outfielders if Andruw is going to play but at this point, no one is sure if he's going to be comfortable dh'ing and his bat his too damn important to have him make that switch. Now if his defense becomes a liability then that's a different story, but at this point it's certainly not. He's probably the worst of the OF's when it comes to range and, although the shoulder injury may have taken a toll, probably one of the better ones when it comes to throwing.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 01:59 PM) No one is saying Roberts isn't smart. Just that talking your way around the Senate isn't that much of a challenge.
