Soler would be a bad option for a team that has lots of DHs and righties and needs a guy to play OF defense and hit left handed.

This is also a franchise that thus far has not been able to get a boost in attendance from opening a new ballpark due to factors beyond their control. They also consistently had a top 10 payroll from 2011-2018 and are in the ~5th biggest media market in the country, so there's lots of opportunity for revenue growth for them just getting into the race.

Heck, the White Sox got an enormous return from a signing at that level. Almost so much that it offsets a lot of those signings. My problem continues to be that they did so many of them in 2019 and 2020, and gave up players in the process. This is where the $50 million+ they added in 2019 while also giving up Narvaez or going for Mazara is coming back to sting.

That's what the White Sox offered Wheeler...when they had a team payroll of $80 million the previous season and a starting rotation where Arbitration for Rodon was at the time their highest salaried starter.
