  1. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 04:32 PM) Lance Broadway was evidently one of them and it sounds as if Hudson was on the list of guys they could have received. So basically it was Hudson, Richard, and Poreda for Peavy? I can see why they'd do it, but we still lucked out on the injury.
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 04:32 PM) I don't think Poreda's stock went down because of one game. For the most part he's been pretty good and as expected, imo. I think the big thing missing is his fastball's been a bit slower than advertised.
  3. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 04:29 PM) Am i the only one who kind of wishes that Peavy deal went down now? Yea the money is absolutely NUTS! But all we had to give up was pitching prospects. Now were all worried about what it would potentially be in a Bacon'less world We still don't know who the PTBNL in that deal were, do we?
  4. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 04:22 PM) With that deal it appears they were asking for the Mets #1 prospect and a guy in their top 5 prospect list. Its a shame that Poreda has been struggling lately. Because his stock was very high last month. If they were calling him up as a "Showcase", that may have sort of backfired.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 04:19 PM) One interesting note is that the Jays weren't looking for any legit, established major league starting pitchers. They'll take whatever the top talent is that they can get. We've known that pretty much all along, which is why everything seems to come down to Beckham for us.
  6. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 04:17 PM) Also, evidently Wilpon told Minaya and Manuel that there jobs are safe which is probably why Minaya didn't accept the deal. That is referring to the deal which involves Poreda as well. If the Mets were healthy and 1 game out I bet they make that deal.
  7. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 04:12 PM) Halladay-Santana is sick. They should pull the trigger That doesn't fix their offense/injuries this year, and they'd have Halladay for only 1 more season, and they'd have lost anyone and everyone in their organization who could be considered a cheap fill-in who might develop in to someone. If I was 1 game out, had a healthy Delgado, had a healthy rotation, had a healthy Beltran, had a healthy Reyes, had a healthy Putz, I'd probably pull that trigger. But 7 games out with 1/3 of my team on the DL and a 32 year old pitcher only signed for 1 more year? I could probably put Santana, Sabathia, and Halladay in my rotation and I'd still miss the playoffs unless I could get my team off the DL.
  8. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 03:16 PM) What does this mean? Anderson's trying to get his arse out of Chicago.
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 02:49 PM) Per Cowley's Twitter:
  10. QUOTE (Jeremy @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 02:31 PM) The idea that people have no right to be upset about this move because Brian Anderson is involved is ludicrous. Frankly, I've just run out of energy lobbying for Anderson. He's going to get treated this way until he learns how to hit, whether it's the best move for the team or not.
  11. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 02:32 PM) What I have noticed about Wise, though, is his insane ability to be 0-2 in every at-bat. How does he do that? When pitchers aren't scared of a hitter beating them, they go right after him and don't bother trying to make the perfect pitch.

    Films Thread

    QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 02:17 PM) They left out some pretty big parts of the book. I've always found that evaluating this sort of film based on "What was left out from the book version" always, always makes the film look worse. Special efforts should be taken to try to evaluate those sorts of movies based on the quality of the film itself, because otherwise you're always left wanting. The only way to turn that much literature in to live action would be probably a 20 hour miniseries on television.
  13. Guess who's back, back again, Quentin's back, tell a friend...
  14. One positive way to look at this...we've used up Anderson's last minor league option. So when the end of training camp rolls around next year and Ozzie sticks with Wise again, maybe KW can turn Anderson in to another Matt Thornton.
  15. That's a quote from an ESPN chat with Olney taking questions. You can enter whatever name you want, so that's probably not actually Kenny Williams, unless he likes to spend his days taunting ESPN personalities (frankly, if I was him, I'd do that on occasion).
  16. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 12:09 PM) Pods8, Alexei6, JD9, PK3, AJ2, TCQ7, Beckham5, Nix4, Fields dh. Floyd pitching. The back of our lineup is frankly going to be devastating the next few weeks.
  17. QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 12:32 PM) I agree. With Q needing to take it easy on the foot, and Pods a less than stellar CF, Anderson would have been a nice defensive replacement nearly every game. Anderson is just getting some AB's before they trade him now. Good luck to Wise. Hope Wise shuts us up. Who is Ozzie more likely to use as a defensive replacement, Anderson or Wise? This probably keeps Quentin healthier.
  18. Anderson had his chance to hit in June. He didn't. Even I'm not going to bother caring about this decision. Q!!!!!!!!
  19. Set a club record for most RBI's over a 3 game stretch with 14, IIRC.
  20. Jason Schmidt will start for the Dodgers tonight.
  21. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 09:12 AM) Well sure, you have to fit into the seat. And the more you weight, the more power the car needs to accelerate.
