  1. QUOTE (Pumpkin Escobar @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 12:05 PM) Mmm true - definitely at the time they were happy but most people want to actually win the whole thing. I'd imagine moreso when you deal your top prospect and not sign the guy you dealt for who carried you into those same playoffs. It depends on what you would be doing with the guy you dealt. Look at LaPorta. For the Brewers, he was an LF for one, and they have a pretty decent one currently. They're also developing another RF (Gamel). LaPorta's potentially moving to 1b with Cleveland, and they have another 1b in Milwaukee who is pretty good as well. LaPorta's hitting great at AAA but struggled big time when he came up to the tribe as well, so he may be a multi-year development project, which again, is something the Brewers don't have time for right now.
  2. It took what, 10 minutes from when this thread was moved for another Halladay thread to appear in PHT?
  3. We should use a completely publicly financed campaign system.
  4. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 09:25 AM) SI_JonHeymanaggressive #brewers look like threat for halladay. hearing manny parra's name. but wouldnt escobar/ gamel have to go too? They wouldn't get him without one of those 2. But the Brewers do already have Hardy at SS.
  5. Title changed so that people don't freak. Confirm it a little more and we'll move to Diamond club.
  6. QUOTE (hogan873 @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 08:54 AM) I agree. He'll forever be that guy who struck out Bagwell with three 99-100 mph fastballs and who closed the deal on one of the most exciting (and stressful) deciding WS games. You can't help but the like the guy. But it may be time to trade him. Question is, who becomes our next closer? I'm not too familiar with the minors, and I assume that's where he would come from. Quite frankly, right now it's Thornton next in line. But that also means we'd be down to 0 situational lefties in the pen currently.
  7. QUOTE (maki @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 08:53 AM) Sounds like Riccardi's main concern is one player must be your top prospect, no matter what position, then you go from there. Seems fairly arbitrary given the differing talent across clubs. I'd say it sounds more like he's trying to get a top 15 or so guy in baseball as a key piece of whatever comes back.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 09:27 PM) The problem is who plays guard if he is gone? Unless the Jazz for some reason want to not only add Hinrich (they seem to have a PG) but also want to add Hinrich's contract (Taxes are bad!), then you need to get a backup guard coming back in the deal.
  9. No. They can currently hold out fora similar price to what they got for Sabathia, and they're not going to get that.
  10. And when Richard went down for Tommy John surgery in 3 weeks, everyone would be calling for Ozzie's head for ruining a young starter.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 08:20 PM) He can't throw strikes consistently. If he can't do that, he can't pitch effectively in the major leagues. He seems like a free spirited fun guy. I hope he finds it, because I think he could really be a character, but he's not ready now. He can mop up fine, but using him when you absolutely need an out isn't ideal. Like a lot of young guys though, his numbers on walks/pitches/strikes were better in the minors than in the big leagues, not just because guys are more patient (they've also gone up quite a bit this year in the minors). Some of that is him working on his stuff to try to become a sucessful starter, some of that is probably just him being a little scared to pitch to people.
  12. QUOTE (allupons @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 08:13 PM) What about exactly? Bringing Jenks in there.
  13. Man, Rongey's really getting in to it with some dude.
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 08:00 PM) I'm thinking most of those 20 teams aren't playoff contenders which we're aspiring to be. Tampa Bay has blown 12. The Dodgers have blown 17. Detroit has blown 16.
  15. To put the whole pen in perspective, tonight was our 10th blown save on the season. 20 teams already have more blown saves than that.
  16. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 07:50 PM) And that was all too consistently happending too and now we are back to it. Our bottom of the order guys are doing better than our big boppers as far as as gettig the job done consistently Consistently? They're all hitting well, they had one bad night. It happens. Solid pitcher against us got them. Dye and Konerko are hitting right around .300, Thome's been Thome, good power from all 3. Sometimes they get beat. The good news right now is...the bottom of our order is giving us some balance. Last couple years, it's been either those 3 or nothing.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 07:49 PM) We have to have the most expensive bullpen Mariano Rivera makes about as much as Jenks, Linebrink, and Dotel combined.
  18. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 07:43 PM) BA would of stole 2nd, 3rd, and home. This post does nothing but anger me.
  19. Leadoff ground ball and AJ is to first after a deflection. Pinch runner please.
  20. Last year, Quentin would destroy anyone in this setup.
