Getz comes in at 2b, Nix moves to RF. This is an amazing lineup now. Think Ozzie just got tossed too.
-
Yes, JD was tossed.
-
QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ May 13, 2009 -> 10:31 AM) Did JD get tossed there?? Who do we have on the bench who can actually play OF if he does? The Podsednik, Nix, Lillibridge OF?
-
Damnit. They actually gave us a chance and we didn't get anything to show for it. We're getting shutout again today, no doubt.
-
Come on JD, bail MB out for once.
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 13, 2009 -> 10:28 AM) Haha, Podsednik has a horse shoe planted firmly up his ass. 8 hits this year and not a one was impressive. Couldn't care less how impressive they are. Wish Lillibridge would learn that lesson.
-
Can we get Alexei and Dye to switch places?
-
Broken bat infield single loads the bases for JD. Tying run at the plate as #23, 2 outs.
-
Nix hits again. Solid. It'd be so sweet if he could just keep up his current pace. He really looks solid so far.
-
QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ May 13, 2009 -> 10:13 AM) ive been out of the loop for a few days. is getz hurt or getting the day off? Just a day off. DJ and Farmer having a discussion about how long Lillibridge's swing is compared to Podsednik and Nix and how that sets him up to be beaten by pitchers.
-
Our highlight for this game is going to wind up being that single.
-
The only person in MLB right now that Alexei can hit is Cliff Lee.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 13, 2009 -> 10:09 AM) Any chance we can change the thread title to "The Democratic Thread"? How about the Democratic Socialist thread?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 13, 2009 -> 10:01 AM) This was a bad defensive team when everyone is in their usual positions, and you're right, move them into other ones makes it worse. If we go through our usual lineup...where are our defensive weaknesses? Fields isn't going to win a GG this year, but he's been better than most of us expected. Alexei isn't the tops at SS but he's made some decent plays. Would you call him average or below average? Getz has been called as good of a player moving to his right as we've had since Durham. Konerko doesn't have range but he's solid at picking the ball. Quentin is covering more ground this year and is making better throws. Anderson has as good of range in CF as anyone. Dye: admitted weakness. Still does make some solid plays. Pierzynski...can't throw worth crap, very good at blocking the ball. We're not holding many GG winners right now unless Nix becomes a regular, but who do you consider really bad other than JD?
-
Argh. Only question left is whether this will be a shutout.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 13, 2009 -> 09:55 AM) Yeah Walker deserves all the heat if this line-up doesn't score. He needs to be coaching these guys not to go in to bases hard where they land all their weight on their heels. Is that his job? Needs to be someone's job.

GOP, RNC to rebrand Democrats as 'Socialists'

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 13, 2009 -> 09:44 AM) Lol, see I think that's true - Democrats want to provide low income people with things. And the only way they can pay for those things is to raise taxes on people who have money. And yes, I'm sure the majority of people on welfare don't want to be on welfare, but that doesn't mean they run out and work like crazy to get out of the program. I've seen the public housing situation here in Chicago, and I firmly believe that if you get a free handout, you lose all incentive to become financially independent. The welfare system is no longer an investment in people, but a life-long cost. Which is why we need to raise taxes, because we can't afford to pay for it anymore. There's another way of looking at things though...not everyone who is stuck in relying on government assistance is doing so because they have no incentive to become financially independent. A lot of us would love to be in a better situation, but simply haven't had things work out correctly just yet, due to either the economy or just luck in the world, whatever. The question is...what happens to people who hit the bottom or come close to it? If people lose their jobs and there is no backstop, then people are going to be in much worse shape. Things like your medical state, that goes dramatically downhill if you can't afford basic medical care...you wind up in this sh*tstorm of trying to figure out whether to pay the rent or the medical bills, you pay the rent, and you get sicker and sicker because you can't afford to go see a doctor, and there winds up being no way out because you can't save up anything. People don't like being in poverty. It isn't fun. A few people who don't mind it doesn't mean that we should condemn everyone else who has trouble at some random point during their life to never having a chance to recover. -
Ballgame.

QUOTE (hogan873 @ May 13, 2009 -> 09:41 AM) Is there a reason Thome is not playing...other than Lee is a lefty? Long game last night, fly off day today, and Thome's obviously still a bit sluggish from that heel injury based on how he was running last night. Extra rest for him is good.
-
QUOTE (Brian @ May 13, 2009 -> 09:39 AM) I could see sending Thome to the Bronx around the deadline. Unless Matsui gets hot. I dunno if I see Jimmy accepting that one.

Ugh. Seriously...aren't you 2 supposed to be the fast ones?

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 13, 2009 -> 09:26 AM) Some rumors involving the Bulls: -Hinrich for Mike Miller (Twolves) -Gordon to the Wolves in a sign & trade Talkbulls mentioned those 2 days ago

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ May 13, 2009 -> 09:23 AM) The fact that the Bulls were THAT close to the Eastern Conference Finals is a scary statement about the East. LeBron James might be playing in the next 3 to 5 NBA Finals unless something drastic happens, which might be enough to convince him to stay in Cleveland. I wouldn't write anything in stone just yet...there's going to be some major reorganizing in the NBA soon driven by this economic collapse that has hit the NBA particularly hard. I really don't know where all the trouble spots are, we know some of them (Sacramento, Memphis, etc), but there are probably a bunch of others that are in bad shape that are going to be moving people for less than we think they should take. For all we know, Cleveland might be in that boat. On top of that, there's shaping up to be another major lockout to start the 2011 season. Throw in the draft lottery's lottery-ness, and the fact that some of those teams out west (Dallas, San Antone) are getting old, and this league is going to be in a lot of flux these next 2 years.
-
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ May 13, 2009 -> 09:16 AM) Realistically, the Bulls would have made the Eastern Conference Finals this season if they had a real coach in my opinion. Well, Duh. The C's series proved that. They'd probably have won it in 5 with solid defensive schemes.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 13, 2009 -> 08:58 AM) I wouldn't and I have no idea how you project him to hit for that type of average. I think he's much more of a guy that will hit an "empty" .290 (or I think thats how the stat guys would term it). He won't hit for a ton of power but I see him hitting for a lot of doubles. The big question is can he draw enough walks to give him a good OBP. Oh and I don't believe in an empty .290, on a sidenote, I love guys that can hit for average and I think Sweeney is the type of guy that could...key word being could. For pete sake the guy hit well over your projections last season in his first full year at a very very young age. He also put up a .336 BABIP in the majors last year. In his last year in Charlotte, he put up a more normal .306 BABIP, and he hit .270. .294 BABIP this year so far, hitting .254. Unless he adds some pop, which he has shown no signs of doing, he's going to need what most people call "better luck" to push .280+ with the average.
