  1. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ May 11, 2009 -> 07:04 PM) I believe it's time for another Paul Konerko led vote of confidence for Walker. One was already given, but we have to make pace with last season. Konerko is hitting. He's allowed to say that.
  2. QUOTE (RME JICO @ May 11, 2009 -> 06:43 PM) More info about the Manny situation. Looks like he had 2 drugs in his system: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4159870 Actually he probably had a lot of drugs in his system...but that's a very interesting chronology of the tests. It dismantles the argument that people could have made that he never tested positive...it depends on how you define a positive test. He clearly was supplementing something if his testosterone/epitestosterone ratios were screwed up, which they were...which is a positive test. It wasn't so badly screwed up that he was immediately suspended, which is obviously a weakness of the testing program (Floyd Landis lost his TDF title for less than what Manny got caught with) but there really is no defense for him. He was on a major doping program.
  3. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 11, 2009 -> 06:56 PM) Getz needs to be fined every fly ball he hits. Lillibridge and Getz need the Willie Mays Hayes treatment. Every time you hit a ball in the air you owe me 20 pushups.
  4. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ May 11, 2009 -> 06:33 PM) Pods was better in 2003 Jermaine - Not really. He wasn't a cast off with Oakland declining his huge $14 million option AJ? Give me a break. He's had better numbers before he came here. Pods hit .240 with the Brewers in 2004 and .290 with the Sox in 2005. He hit less HR but we were happy with the results. Dye's OPS with Oakland: .913 ..792 .514 .793 He hasn't been below .800 with the Sox. AJ hit .301 in his years with the Twins, has hit .275 with us, and hit .272 before being cast off by the Giants.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ May 11, 2009 -> 06:28 PM) And my post was in response to Walker never turning around a "castoff" Podsednik's 2005 while healthy doesn't count? Jermaine Dye doesn't count? AJ Pierzynski doesn't count? Q as well.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ May 11, 2009 -> 06:23 PM) Balta...was this one of our biggest outputs against a starting pitcher all year? Just not sure how to look this up. The first time through, we're hitting .227 against people, 2nd time through .232, 3rd and after .254, relief pitchers .282.
  7. LIllibridge singled. My God. Loaded for Q. Come on Q, wake the truck up.
  8. For the stat geeks. Comparing Kobe and Mike, not Lebron, but you get hte point.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ May 11, 2009 -> 06:15 PM) However, why can't you say the same about Cooper and Floyd then? Not exactly, Floyd was around Cooper in 2007 also, so he went upwards first.
  10. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 11, 2009 -> 06:14 PM) What does it take for this line up to be able to beat someone with an ERA of 6 or 7 or more? Right now, it takes Mark Buehrle or John Danks on the mound. We got 4 runs in 6.1 innings off of him. That's an ERA of nearly 6. Even with the struggles, and lack of HR, the offense has produced points today.
  11. Consecutive hits by Konerko, Pierzynksi, Fields, and Alexei. Not bad.
  12. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ May 11, 2009 -> 06:13 PM) Vazquez is plenty OK for lower in the rotation. We're missing him now. I'd rather get blown out repeatedly than have to go through more Vazquez games. Honestly. I enjoy the Contreras debacles more.
  13. Indirectly via a "Senior Military Official" via a defense blogger I enjoy. On the other hand, he has a complicated history with the Pat Tillman Army Coverup.
  14. You want a great summary of everything that is totally f***ed up about our media today? It's Bob Schieffer's end-of-show talk on CBS yesterday morning. He went after Justice Souter...not for his job performance, not for leaving, not for anything related to his job, but because he's not nice enough on the cocktail circuit with all the media buddies.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ May 11, 2009 -> 06:01 PM) At least KW has the Swisher trade to deflect any criticism of the Javy trade. As much as I hated Javy, I'd gladly take him on this team as the #3. Bullcrap.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ May 11, 2009 -> 05:54 PM) Sure, but the bigger prize is Bobby Jenks. This team seems to be a few years from competing in the AL Central, as the Tigers and Royals seem to be in a good position to have solid squads (along with Twins, of course) over the next 2 years. You still only move Jenks for a King's ransom. He's getting more expensive yes, but the economy may well hold arbitration totals down, and he's probably going to be a guy that we can get draft picks for if he walks some day. JD, Thome, possibly Dotel...we're not going to get picks for them if they depart at the end of the year...so it makes sense to just save the money if we can.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ May 11, 2009 -> 05:44 PM) Or how about make some change to Fields swing so he can actually drop the barrel on the ball once every 2 weeks? What was Fields doing so different in 2007?
  18. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ May 11, 2009 -> 05:34 PM) 3.10 ERA, 1.12 WHIP. That's what Gavin will have to do over the next 168 innings to match his numbers from his fluke season last year. Over his first 17 starts last, year, covering over 3 months, Gavin put up a 1.12 WHIP and a 3.22 ERA.
  19. You know the one thing that really does bother me about Walker? He's too damn patient with these young guys. How long did it take to finally get Anderson to overhaul his swing? Ditto Fields. Ditto Lillibridge. These guys need (ed) some serious help and it took forever for it to happen.
  20. Fields, Ramirez, Getz, Lillibridge. Something tells me this will kill a couple rallies.
  21. Wow, a couple of consecutive hits and a run scored. Jaw dropping.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ May 11, 2009 -> 05:23 PM) Terrible...what a brutal performance yet again. He looked like he was finding a groove then suddenly can't throw a damn strike again.
