So how many Supreme Court retirements do you think we get in 2009? 2? 3?

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 08:15 AM) FWIW: Rahm Emanuel has been offered the Chief of Staff position One interesting/worthy note about this is that Senator Obama's cabinet picks will likely give the Dems a much needed chance to get some "New blood" in to safe districts. Take guys like Rahm, or Biden, or maybe others who've been there for a while (Kerry comes to mind) and give them essentially a promotion while at the same time bringing in someone fresh. Also...seriously, President-Elect Obama...you better freaking get FEMA right. Pay attention to the last 2 presidents and how each of them ran it. Your presidency can easily be defined by that one organization, and given climate change and the likelihood of the San Andreas/Heyward faults moving, it's going to be needed.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 08:27 AM) point taken, but IMO theres a big differnce in developing technology for one machine with absurd funding vs. developing cost effective technology that will change the way virtually the entire nation and every single person uses energy ....don't get me wrong, breaking our dependence on foreign oil would solve so many problems and i'd love to see it happen as soon as possible (and being actively involved in scientific research, i always wonder what the epiphany of discovering alternative fuel technologies would be like)...but i think by putting time frames on it from now on, obama is only hurting himself by giving opponents something to throw back at him if those time frames aren't met The remarkable thing about renewable energy systems is...they work the opposite of fossil fuels, in that the more we use fossil fuels, the more expensive they get, while the more we use renewables, the cheaper they get. If you do the math...it would take a major, major investment to kick up the construction and installation of generation facilities and an updated power grid to carry the electrons, but we have the technology right now to have a carbon free electricity system within about 10-12 years. We just have to do it.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 06:22 PM) The Colorado Udall (the New Mexico one already won) has a pretty big lead so far. Most places have called it for him. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 05:05 PM) why does CNN have indiana red??? Online they certainly don't, and if they do don't believe them.

QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 05:04 PM) Oh thank goodness thank you PA Just remember, if Obama can't beat Hillary in the PA primary, he has no shot at winning that state in the General. Man that was a long time ago.

QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 04:53 PM) ugh I feel sick. This is way stressful. Just give me VA baby. I tell you what, I think Indiana's going to turn blue before VA does tonight.

QUOTE (dww879 @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 04:45 PM) I obviously agree that Richard and Poreda are completely different situations. Poreda appears to be touted as a top of the rotation type pitcher while if Richard could someday be a solid 4 or 5 it would be fantastic. Obviously Poreda has more value and is viewed much differently than Richard. However, with two lefties in the rotation already it seems unlikely that both these guys would ever be in the rotation at the same time atleast for the next 3 years. It is very likely that one of them could be traded and more likely that Poreda would because he has much greater trade value. It seems likely that Poreda will be traded and thus I think Kenny is merrily attempting to improve his value. Think of all the top prospects the sox have had in the last few years that have been traded, Sweeney, Young, Reed just to name a few. But you know what? Out of guys drafted since 2003, KW has yet to trade away any of his #1 picks.

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 04:10 PM) If either of them switch, its pretty much over provided that Pennsylvania stays in Obama's corner. I just thought VA would be the first to go based on the fact that it's the biggest red state lead for BO and the fact that it closed so early. But Indiana, by closing all the rural areas an hour earlier is way out ahead in the counting right now, and if it stays remotely close from the early closing part they may call it.
-
The fact that the earliest precincts in Indiana are reporting from the rural areas and Indiana is splitting 50/50 in those areas is a strong sign of Indiana going blue. None of the college towns are in at all yet either, let alone NW and marion. Indiana actually has a shot at making my prediction of Virginia being the "Celebrate at the first switching red state" be wrong.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 04:05 PM) It's my understanding that exit polls released by CNN and MSNBC are weighted and normalized. It's the early "leaked" polls that tend to be VERY inaccurate. Ok, you weren't citing a source on those, just saying they existed, which is why I asked.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 03:58 PM) Are you trying to say that the hype surrounding prospects out of those organizations have made them more desirable to other GM's? Frankly, I'd say yes.

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 04:03 PM) If we can survive W we can survive anything, and I just got gas for 2.49...what could go wrong now? He still has 77 days.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 03:54 PM) Indiana Exit Polls: Obama 52% McCain 46% So, since you're the one saying "Don't trust exit polls"...are these demographic normalized?

I'd like to note, if memory serves, the first 2 states called in 2004 were Indiana and Kentucky, both happening about 10 minutes from now.
