  1. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 3, 2008 -> 09:05 AM) Collins has done a solid job all year long for the Titans, Cassell seems to be doing decent enough for the Pats, Leinart would be a good QB for a lot of teams etc. I'd still love Grossman over Brad Johnson though, that's for sure. It's interesting the examples you pick, because you could certainly make the argument that Collins and Cassel aren't sucking because the teams around them are so good. Hell, with Cassell, it's hard not to think that about a guy who hadn't started since high school. I'm left wondering if Grossman couldn't be a pro-bowler in those slots. Leinart, on the other hand, can't get around Warner, who isn't exactly a spring chicken.
  2. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Nov 2, 2008 -> 03:11 PM) Buffalo is making me seem like an a**clown. If you got to watch any of that game...I really got the feeling that Buffalo was still trying to find themselves. They got off to that hot, talented start, where Edwards seemed to be working magic in every 2nd half, and it seemed like they were just waiting around for someone to do something, rather than doing it themselves. Lots of mistakes, fairly poorly coached game, the team seemed a little dead and has seemed that way for a couple games. With a young team, especially one with a coaching staff that is meh (Jauron), I'm not sure these games should be so unexpected. Now their job is to regroup, realize that they're getting it handed back to them, and come out & play like a team that wants to win in their next few division games.
  3. Why is just saying something is "Federalist" still a reasonable counterpoint? I really don't care how federalist the system is, right now the only ones who benefit from our current setup are the people who make money off of registrations and the people who benefit from stopping folks from voting.
  4. QUOTE (YASNY @ Nov 2, 2008 -> 09:32 AM) I'd rather have BA as our 4th OF than Griff. I'm hoping BA is our 3rd OF, 1st CF.
  5. QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 1, 2008 -> 05:12 PM) The Blazers and Suns are up there too. Seriously? I'd disagree on both of those. The Suns are getting old and wearing down and who knows how they'll do after D'Antoni, the Blazers are still really young, have their key guy with injury problems, have a ton more development to do, and didn't even make the playoffs last year.
  6. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Nov 1, 2008 -> 06:08 PM) Ya, those scum bags. They should be great humanitarians like Bill Ayers. Seriously, this just makes you look silly. I agree, the other post doesn't fit in to this thread, but at this point can't you at least give us the dignity of not pretending like the Ayers stuff isn't just insanity?
  7. Here is an idea I'd like to completely endorse. A federally managed election registration system makes sense to me, seems completely weird to have each state having different rules about who is registered, who is eligible to vote, and how you go about getting that way.
  8. Well, I would like to add to this discussion that I expect everyone who was outraged over the fact that state workers in Ohio illegally accessed information about my Halloween Costume and his tax issues will be equally outraged over the fact that this information was illegally leaked from the Immigration and Customs department. Seriously...this country's laws regarding personal information need a gigantic overhaul. They're just a disaster when these things keep happening over and over.
  9. And for more fun, Dick Cheney...yes,that guy, decided it would be a good idea today to disclose his location and give a speech endorsing John McCain. Yeah, I'm sure that's EXACTLY what the McCain Campaign needed.
  10. It's flat out offensive and silly, but occasionally I have to post these things. Prank call from 2 canadian comics to Sarah Palin playing French President Sarkozy.
  11. Senator Dick Durbin's daughter has died at the age of 40.
  12. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Nov 1, 2008 -> 01:27 AM) Makes me feel better. I had been hearing things years ago that said we should expect a 7.0+ earthquake in the next 10 years. So, I was beginning to think that would happen very soon. Oh, and that sucks to be on the San Andreas. Pretty much inevitable I guess... Let's put it this way...it's plausible. I'd say it's not as likely as a hurricane hitting NYC or a flood hitting Sacramento or an earthquake hitting San Fran or L.A., but it's at the next step down of major disasters. It'll happen at some point, and it could happen amazingly soon so it's worth taking some general precautions. i.e. make sure you know what your insurance covers, have your house bolted to the foundation, keep some extra water and canned goods around (good advice pretty much anywhere).
  13. QUOTE (rangercal @ Nov 1, 2008 -> 11:38 AM) quit crying. we didn't have a chance to win anyway. I'd rather see tyrus go 2-17 ( in a game we never had a chance to win) then rot on the bench. The entire team sucked, tyrus just sucked a little more. Stealing from Truehoop: He's up against Garnett and Perkins. He's going to struggle. Let him struggle!
  14. QUOTE (YASNY @ Nov 1, 2008 -> 12:00 PM) I agree. As long as there's an upgrade made in the middle infield over Nix/Getz, I wouldn't see the problem with that. An infield of Fields, Alexei, Nix, and Konerko/Swisher is a worrisome infield though, although there's enough talent there that it could surprise.
  15. QUOTE (YASNY @ Nov 1, 2008 -> 12:04 PM) I hope it's a very reduced salary. I really don't see the point of bringing Jr. back. Depends on what else is done. Jr. makes a reasonable addition as a 4th OF in my mind, especially if we wind up having a RH dominated OF because we do something like move Swisher. No matter how Wise is on defense, I think I'd much prefer Griffey's bat and presence, as long as we're not talking about a $10 million deal to do it. If it came down to Griffey, Owens, and Wise as "Who do you want at 4th OF", and all of them at reasonable prices for that # of at bats, I think I'd probably go with Griffey, depending of course on how everything else falls out.l
  16. QUOTE (YASNY @ Nov 1, 2008 -> 02:54 PM) I have no problem with Richard getting the shot at the 5th starter slot. I know his stats weren't very good at all, but he showed me a mound presence that I thought was impressive. All he needs is to learn how to pitch in the Majors, and there's only one way to do that. I could live with Richard getting the 5th starter spot...but I don't think I could live with Richard getting the 5th starter spot if Vazquez is the 4th starter. Not in the AL I don't think we could. If Danks/Floyd is considered starter #4 because Kenny pulls off something that upgrades that spot or at least is a lateral move to someone who I can count on a little more down the stretch, then I could gamble on the Richard/Broadway/Poreda/Contreras/etc. 5th starter spot.
  17. QUOTE (beck72 @ Oct 31, 2008 -> 05:13 PM) While Owens has speed, Wise does what Owens could and gives the sox better defense at all 3 OF spots. Owens will probably never sport a high OBP even if he hits above .260. And Wise hit .248 with a .293 OBP. He didn't exactly sport the OBP either.
  18. This is one of those things that is just, well, odd. Hotline has a listing of election-related programming this weekend. CNN has this item included: That's basically just CNN handing over their network to conservatives to talk about the election for an hour. The problem of course is, there's no Election Countdown, View from the Left.
  19. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Oct 31, 2008 -> 03:02 PM) Downloading video? Takes a lot more time and know-how and memory. Not saying it won't happen, but it's years away. DVD's are sold at relatively reasonable pricing, and the download of video through piracy is a lot more difficult. Also worth noting is the fact that thanks to its disastrous regulatory environment, the U.S. is already light years behind the rest of the Western/developed world in Broadband capacity and speed.
  20. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Oct 31, 2008 -> 01:00 AM) Hey Balta, you have any info on the New Madrid fault? It hasn't done anything in like 200 years, and I think we're well overdue... aka, do I need to stay clear of Memphis for the foreseeable future? lol The New Madrid Fault system is an odd one. It exists right in the middle of a plate, where it's difficult to get big earthquakes. But it's certainly there, and troublesome. I've never really liked the studies I've seen on that one because most of them seem like they rate the recurrence interval too low, they tend to be a little too alarmist for the match I do in my head. I think about a 500 year recurrence interval for magnitude 8 events seems reasonable, and there are some numbers out there that say that. It's been 200 years since the last big one, but the last big one was a swarm of about 4 magnitude 7-8 events. It's fairly likely that there will be a magnitude 6, slight damage, annoying type event on that system within the next 50-100 years. I think the next big one there is probably a couple hundred years off, but with faults, it's really hard to say that for sure. It could have a recurrence interval of 500 years, move 3 times in 200 years and then decide not to move again for 1500 years. You've got probably a 5% chance in the next 50-75 years of having another magnitude 8 event on that fault. On the other hand, the Southern San Andreas has probably a 95% chance of going within the next 50 years.
  21. 2 points. 1. I kinda actually hope he's not kidding. If he's healthy and puts in the work this offseason and spring after his surgery, I'd really like to see if Josh can handle a full ML season and maybe give us 30 hr/nearly 100 RBI. We know he can, he just has to do it. 2. I think KW is kind of happy that he's not desperate for any position this offseason, especially now that he's signed Nix. He doesn't need to go and just dump money at someone desperately hoping they'll sign. Now he can play his game. Out of 2b, CF, 3B, SP, and RP, He'll probably wind up filling like 3-4 spots with someone new and unexpected, and the spot that doesn't get filled he'll roll the dice.
  22. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Oct 31, 2008 -> 08:48 AM) Also, do you think they'll offer OC arbitration at least? If they don't then Kenny should be fired.
