QUOTE (TCQ @ Oct 25, 2008 -> 01:49 PM) ss/2b he can run with it catch it return o yea and he can throw it too...o wait thats boobie miles. I have no idea what any of this means. All I know is we don't need to add another OF, we need to be subtracting Of's to fill another hole.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 25, 2008 -> 01:08 PM) I don't feel like reading all of this. Any solid rumors or news in this thread? At this point...with our GM, don't we all know that every thread here is speculation until it finally gets pinned?

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 25, 2008 -> 08:37 AM) Hinrich has always been partially handicapped on the Bulls. Put him with the right personel and your talking about a very valuable player. All Star, absolutely not, but above average, certainly. I've always thought Hinrich would be an ideal #3 guy on a team with a dominant scoring guard. Put him next to Wade, or Kobe, or TMac, somewhere that he doesn't have to generate shots for people but where he can help out by being the solid guard defender that gives the big name guy a break on the defensive end, and he'd be in the perfect role.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 24, 2008 -> 07:13 PM) This would allow people who shouldn't be donating to donate. With no address verification, who knows how much foreign donations there are. At one point Obama had released a list that contained just amounts. Most people donate in even dollars, like $25 or $100. The pages were littered with amounts like $43.87 and such, which would be the amount in dollars after being transferred from foreign currancy thru a credit card transaction. The bolded part is 100% incorrect and I can tell you exactly why. In the original bloggy days, there was a standard operating procedure for how to designate when contributing to a campaign which blog you came through...and that was to add a specific amount of cents to the contribution, where each # of cents was correlated with the blog you went through. A number of people still do that. Here's one of the old keys:

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Oct 24, 2008 -> 11:54 AM) OK, as I've said before I'm very ignorant when it comes to the day and day out economic markets. What am I supposed to take from today? The futures were shut down, but as of a minute ago the Dow will basically only give up the gains from yesterday EDIT: Oops, sorry, it must have dropped between the delay I was looking at and the closing numbers, look like it gave up a little over 300 I think the take home message for the next year is probably going to be...even now that the credit markets seem to be unlocking as the worldwide government bailouts do their job...the market is still, at its base, driven by the profitability of companies, and right now, the biggest driver of profitability, the relentless spending of the American consumer...is just broken. We're facing a serious, year or more long worldwide economic recession, it's going to pound profits for the next year or two, and its' going to take a long time before we work our way out of it.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 24, 2008 -> 11:17 AM) Not from what I have seen. Last couple I've seen are +2 and +6. And remember, I'm a believer in unreflected fear and bias, and VA has a deep conservative streak. I am thinking McCain takes VA, IN and possibly FL. Obama takes OH, CO, NM, NV. MT is right on the fence. The pollster.com VA composite right now is 51.5/44 in Virginia, a 7.5 point difference. Pre-election polling almost never misses by more than 6. Ohio is a 4 point Obama lead, Florida is a 2.2 point O lead, CO is 50.9/45.2 (good sized but smaller than VA), IN is literally tied at 47, new mexico is 50.4/43.9. Nevada is O by 2.2. In the composite right now, Obama has a bigger lead in Virginia than in any other state you mention.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 24, 2008 -> 12:05 PM) VA won't, IMO. But CO will. And OH. And possibly MT and/or FL and/or IN. So yeah, that's why I think its Obama to win, though by closer margins than the polls indicate. Out of the supposed swing states, aside from PA, VA polling has Obama having his biggest lead anywhere. Bigger than OH, CO, FL, MT, IN, etc.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 24, 2008 -> 11:32 AM) I make a small donation once a year to my undergrad school, which makes me a member of the alumni association. I do this because of what the school did for me, and because I believe it is an excellent university that should be well-funded. Education is just so very important, and good schools need funding to continue to be good. I do not donate to the school where I got my MBA, because I feel the school is poorly run and doesn't deserve another dime from me. Typically, at least at the universities I've been at, contributions/dues to the alumni association do not actually go to run the university. For tax purposes, alumni association funded events have to be kept separate from moneys that go to fund the actual university itself.

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Oct 23, 2008 -> 08:02 PM) gmafb If the McCain campaign hadn't decided that Hamas's endorsement was something that we should take in to account, then I'd agree. But based on the standards they set...

QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 23, 2008 -> 07:13 PM) They're going to have to trade Prince to get pitching back. It's sad for them, as they've spent the last 5 years drafting/developing some great talent, and they have to blow it up after really only 2 seasons of competing. But you know what...some of that they brought on themselves by focusing so hard on winning this year. Although they will load up on draft picks from CC and probably Sheets and that will help...having LaPorta in their system still would make a big move still possible for them.

QUOTE (beck72 @ Oct 23, 2008 -> 07:40 PM) SF would likely want Swisher. He's likely to rebound. In that ballpark though?

QUOTE (Reddy @ Oct 23, 2008 -> 04:51 PM) im thinking 53% It's also possible Obama could get 52-53% and still win by 8-9 if Barr or Nader siphon off a point or two.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Oct 23, 2008 -> 05:42 PM) What may these surprises be? The only thing that would surprise me with our GM is him standing pat through the winter meetings.

QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Oct 23, 2008 -> 04:30 PM) And we would have to move fast-which Williams doesnt normally do Um, did you just say that KW doesn't move fast in the trade market? Some of his trades the last few years and their dates: 11/16/2006 Neal Cotts David Aardsma and Carlos Vazquez 12/6/2006 Freddy Garcia Gavin Floyd and Gio Gonzalez 12/16/2006 Ross Gload Andy Sisco 12/23/2006 Brandon McCarthy and David Paisano Nick Masset, John Danks and Jacob Rasner 11/19/2007 Jon Garland Orlando Cabrera 12/3/2007 Chris Carter Carlos Quentin 11/26/2005 Aaron Rowand, Daniel Haigwood and a PTBNL: Gio Gonzalez Jim Thome and cash 12/13/2005 Damaso Marte Rob Mackowiak 12/20/2005 Orlando Hernandez, Luis Vizcaino and Chris Young Javier Vazquez The Thome Trade, Cotts Trade, and Garland trades were all done before the winter meetings. (Convenient MLB Trade Rumors listing of KW's major deals)

QUOTE (rangercal @ Oct 23, 2008 -> 02:45 PM) what about keeping Hughes and let his deal expire in 2010 and sign one of those Big Free agents? The problem is, I'm not sure that even Hughes's expiring deal gets us far enough under the cap to really make a run at Wade if we're still holding Hinrich and Nocioni and Deng. Especially if we somehow resign or replace Gordon. You have to turn Hinrich/Noc in to an additional expiring contract to really make a LBJ/Wade run.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 23, 2008 -> 10:14 AM) I'd be very cautious with exit polls. Look at 2004. The exit polls were actually surprisingly accurate in hindsight IIRC...the oddity appeared because people took the mid-day exit polls and published them and said "Oh, Kerry won!" -
QUOTE (rangercal @ Oct 23, 2008 -> 10:38 AM) If they used Hughes for mainly defensive stops against bigger guards it would be. As long as he takes >10 shots a game for every 25 mins he plays, then I don't want him on the court. In other words, if he turned in to Thabo Sefalosha?

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 23, 2008 -> 09:35 AM) That looks like an airplane parked outside of an airport. Isn't there a silhouette of luggage in the pic? Yes it is. It would be very difficult to have that picture anywhere other than an airport. I can only think of about 3 buildings that have had that view other than airports.
