  1. So, for what it's worth, both Senator "Worst in the world" and the White House have already stated that they agree 100% with the idea that the next President will be rapidly tested by America's enemies. Of course, they said those things when they thought it would help Senator McCain, but that's a side note.
  2. I like the fact that the guy with $90,000 worth of cash in his freezer only comes in at #6.
  3. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 06:19 PM) This team has been awful offensively tonight outside of Rose. The D hasn't exactly been great either. I don't have high hopes for this season if Hinrich and Hughes is our starting backcourt like it was tonight. Hinrich and Hughes should probably be starters # 4 and #5...once everyone else is gone. The problem is they're paid like #1 and #2.
  4. QUOTE (scenario @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 05:54 PM) Not just BA... TBA The Brandon Allen As long as he earns that "The".
  5. We really need Brandon Allen to change his initials.
  6. So, for those who are interested in such things, here's the 538 run down of the quality and bias they think is holding in each of the daily tracking polls.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 03:43 PM) And because liberals, conservatives and moderates all think its a bad idea... guess what Congress will do? At least I'll get more money to go blow in Vegas.
  8. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 01:16 PM) Infrastructure and technology investments would be much better than the cash giveaway. I think the Dems are planning on both, they need to ditch the stimulus check portion. OMFG. You and I totally agree. Like 100%. I couldn't have said that better myself. I'm going to go be sick now
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 02:26 PM) If by combativeness, they simply mean that there were a lot of differing views among the leadership, then that is not a bad thing. If by combativeness, they mean continuous deadlocks, incoherent direction of action, and flailing decisions (as described with Palin)m then that IS a bad thing. Which of those 2 sentences more accurately reflects the public behavior of the campaign the last few months? Anyway...you may not like it if you're a Republican, and you won't believe it because it's the NYT...but "Rats fleeing a sinking ship" is what this article says to me. We've been seeing the beginnings of it for weeks with the occasional article with a "McCain insider" complaining about the strategy. No one wants to be the one who goes down with the ship.
  10. QUOTE (Shadows @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 12:27 PM) Why because they beat San Diego? So what even Miami beat San Diego.. Dont look now, but the Brady-less Pats are only a game behind They'd be tied if they could have beaten San Diego.
  11. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 11:55 AM) Well, he is leading one of the few banks that remained semi-intact through this mess (Chase/JPM). But these sorts of things are, I believe, not supposed to be publically acknowledged or announced before the election. It's actually illegal for either side to officially announce those things because it's illegal to make a deal in exchange for a vote. But precedent says that as long as you keep things under the table, no one really minds, it was pretty widely understood that Powell would have a seat at the table after 2000, for Example.
  12. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 11:00 AM) I'd consider going, but only if they had CNN or MSNBC on a big screen TV. I love watching the drama as results come in. I'm not sure it would be as fun in a park filled with people just chatting. I'm sure they'll have wireless set up. It's the Obama campaign right? Anyway....the moment the first 04 Red State comes up called blue...hopefully VA or NC or just all of them, the crowd explosion will be enough.
  13. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 10:41 AM) So, as the only person posting in this thread so far that I'd call "liberal"... what are your feelings on this 401k issue? I can see the motivation for a mechanism for enforcing savings...but as long as Social Security exists, giving people encouragements for additional retirement savings while at the same time taking advantage of the equity premium you get in any timespan when there is not a Bush in the White House seems like an appropriate strategy. If you want to privatize Social Security as has been repeatedly proposed, then this would make more sense.
  14. QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 09:56 AM) In principle. I don't believe I ever said I was against them. Basically I view all of these groups as merely conduits for information to get to the election officials. Much like the US Postal Service. If the USPS delivered voter registration forms for Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse no one would blame them for delivering the obviously false applications. So I fail to see why these gorups should be treated any differently. Where I do see a problem is they are creating an enormous work load for election officials sifting through garbage. But as I mentioned, it is far more dangerous to have them not send in everything. While I think we can all agree that is a problem...it's a problem without a solution. Because it's a much, much worse idea to let organizations on their own, rather than the government, decide which registration forms they're going to send in. Something tells me it wouldn't be that hard to find an awful lot of typos on people who registered for one specific party, for example, if you really wanted to. A little more work checking and fixing databases, and thus a little more money spent, seems like the much better option here. You can't stop people from filling out forms incorrectly if they're trying to reach some sort of quota, it happens whether people are paid or not.
  15. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 09:49 AM) I agree but if it garners enough support there must be an overriding ideology by the Dems that it would be benefical to pass this through. The fear of Dems controlling policy making ability and even having ideas like this scares the s*** out of me. The Republicans have controlled policy for the last 8 years for the most part, and despite their official platform at one recent point calling for a return to the gold standard, that hasn't happened either.
  16. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 09:58 AM) That quote was from a member of Congress. And the Daily Show featured multiple others last night saying basically the same thing, including the current VP candidate. Stewart's response was "Fish you".
  17. QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 06:37 AM) I was agreeing with you all the way, then we got to the conclusion and it feels wrong to me. It takes the process another step towards the parties and away from the people and that just isn't a goal I can support. This isn't perfect by any stretch but I would like to see neighbors registering neighbors. Community groups getting involved, etc. So, in other words, you'd like to see voter registration carried out in part by community organizers. Perhaps even an association of community organizers?
  18. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 08:34 PM) In reality, it (FDIC cap raising) doesn't mean a damn thing. It's all bulls*** to make it look like they did something. Well, it would if the FDIC hadn't already run out of money.
  19. QUOTE (SEALgep @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 06:25 PM) I like the Myers idea I think Here's why I don't.
  20. QUOTE (longshot7 @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 02:05 PM) The Trib endorses Obama - first time they've endorsed a Dem: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion...0,1371034.story Wow.
  21. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 19, 2008 -> 07:04 AM) I worry the GOP, the far right, and the McCain campaign will begin to tear Powell apart. Done.
  22. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 10:40 AM) Manny won't get 30M a year though. If he were 5 or 6 years younger though...
  23. I have absolutely no urge to go see this movie. I've lived through the nightmare that is the last 8 years already, why do I want to review how we got there?
  24. So there's one piece of data that's simply missing there. What percentage of the loans that the GSE's gave out were ARM's? The %age of mortgages being bought by the GSE's compared to the other banks declined dramatically as those types of mortgages took off.
