Boston Red Sox vs. Tampa Bay Rays ALCS Thread
Balta1701 replied to kjshoe04's topic in The Diamond Club
Tampa bay and their homer heavy offense, that'll never play in the playoffs. -
MAN did I miss Q for that last month.

And the McCain camp's response...totally unexpected.... In other words, because it was within her power to do so, the impropriety doesn't matter at all for Mr. Cheney Mrs. Palin. So, there's nothing to see here, no penalty will be enacted, move along.

QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 10, 2008 -> 07:09 PM) I swear that everyone has me on ignore in the Filibuster... I said it before you did! :-)

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 10, 2008 -> 06:59 PM) It completely negates her as being some kind of new type of politician to fix Washington. She's just another dirty pol that was caught not telling the truth. Did anyone seriously believe that about her? Well, maybe they believed that in that they believed she was a truly religious conservative of the sort that actually makes up the religious right and in that sense they thought she was a new kind of politician, but beyond that, who actually still believed that?

QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 10, 2008 -> 05:40 PM) Pitch tipping? He wasn't solid in '06. I remember a few times when he rode the Hafner Express. But yeah, in May and June people hit well under .200 against him, he gave up a grand total of 2 runs those 2 months combined (both solo home runs) and struck out 20 in 17 innings. He then fell completely apart. His ERA the first half was 3. His ERA the 2nd half was 16.39. His ERA for May and June was just over 1. From just over 1 for 2 months to 11 to 18. I mean, those splits are just remarkable. I have no idea how a guy can do that.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 10, 2008 -> 06:51 PM) THe problem is that in the Bush example, those that were in charge of determining firing offenses were placed there by... the Bush administration. The justice department is nothing but Bush cronies. Exactly my point. And the people we're now wondering if they'll have any problem with this...are the McCain/Bush 40% base. They may not be happy with the way the country's going, but if they're voting for McCain after this campaign, then finding additional corruption on the ticket isn't going to change a thing.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 10, 2008 -> 05:45 PM) I dont knwo how this all ties into ethic laws, but the way I see it is while it is within her power to fire this man for no reason, she fired him partially because of personal issues and that is the "abuse of power". All I ask is...how is this any different or worse than anything we've heard about the Bush Administration, none of which was judged to be firing offenses for anyone.

QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 10, 2008 -> 05:10 PM) Richard, Carrasco, Dotel, Linebrink, Thornton, Jenks are all solid RPs. Am I the only one still stumped about how Boone Logan went from being so incredibly solid to so incredibly bad over such a short timespan?
-
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 10, 2008 -> 05:07 PM) The two republicans on CNN say it's a nonissue because people are more worried about the economy and she broke no laws, therefore it's ok. Which is, exactly what I was saying. It won't be treated as a big deal, it's old news already.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 10, 2008 -> 05:44 PM) 2 words... Game Over Seriously, that's what you got from reading that key statement? Unless there's something else buried in the report, you found that to be game over?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 10, 2008 -> 03:38 PM) Something tells me the scoring in this game isn't yet done. And I was wrong. -
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 10, 2008 -> 03:45 PM) He probably should have added "he's a christian" since that is probably what she was implying, but I'll take it. Arab is a racial term, not a religious one.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Oct 10, 2008 -> 02:33 PM) Manny hit another HR, the only problem is Billingsley s*** the bed. Oh and that f*** face piece of s*** Brett Myers is 3-3. Something tells me the scoring in this game isn't yet done. -

QUOTE (Cknolls @ Oct 10, 2008 -> 12:00 PM) So why don't they change the way they do their voter registrations? Because it works. If 1% come back spoiled, but you register an extra 5 million people, you've produced 50,000 fraudulent applications but you've registered 4,950,000 new voters. Then, what happens...99% of those spoiled ones get caught in the offices that process the registration forms, and then the rest...no one actually shows up to use them because it's a crime to vote twice or to vote under someone else's ID. Another worthy thing to point out is that at least in a good number of states, Not sure about all of them, ACORN is actually required by law to turn in any application it is given, regardless of whether or not they believe information on them is faulty. Typically they will actually make some effort to filter out ones they believe to be fraudulent on their own and tell the people they give them to "These are questionable", but if you fill out a form with the name "Joe Crede" on it, and hand it in, they're actually required to submit it.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 10, 2008 -> 11:58 AM) That's absolutely f***ing pathetic. Seriously. What's the question exactly? Clearly, it's why he's not in jail facing the death penalty.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 10, 2008 -> 11:40 AM) thank you, I already knew this and read this, but the straw grasping was getting old. and fwiw, the Wall St. Journal also talked about how this was more employee fraud than election fraud. But that won't stop Fox News and a few unnamed folks from obsessing about it like it's the end of the world, regardless of the total lack of logic behind any sort of actual vote fraud scheme.

I'm going to excerpt virtually this whole TPM post because it's so, um, correct.

Governor Palin refuses to cooperate with the Trooper firing investigation, then her spokespeople complain that the investigation report coming out later today is faulty because they didn't interview Governor Palin. I hate this world.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Oct 10, 2008 -> 05:52 AM) Truth be told, I agree with that. I was just stirring the 'ol pot yesterday. It really pisses me off that the Republicans have been handed a chance on a gold platter to explain why they can help better then their (socialist) pals. But for whatever reason, they've just played dead, and all they want to do is fear monger. Guess what? It isn't going to work this election. Talk about why RSO will take away money from the economy as a whole and they win, but for some reason they can't do that, and it's sad. I don't necessarily agree with 2/3 of the things you've said...but if hypothetically I did, there's still one big problem you're missing...you can't exactly do a good job of explaining how you're going to be more fiscally responsible and do a better job with the economy than the Democrats and at the same time tell me how good of a job George W. Bush has done, simply because of the record. Either you have to attack the President's earmark record on something other than the stupid earmarks (anyone who can do the slightest bit of math simply scoffs at that) or you cede the economic ground to Obama.

FOX Freakout Over Unretouched Palin Photo On Newsweek Cover

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Oct 10, 2008 -> 07:08 AM) Um, wouldn't Mrs. Palin's people be on site ASKING for more make-up if this was a problem? Hey Fox, why don't you cover...um...news? Haven't y'all figured it out yet? 2 options. 1. Cover economic collapse 2. Cover other random stuff that gives you a chance to rant about the liberal media. #1 is bad for John McCain. #2 is good for him. Which do you choose if your job is to elect John McCain? -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 10, 2008 -> 04:43 AM) I don't buy much bottled water, but if I do in the future, it won't be from Fiji. I had exactly the same thought (I only buy Bottled water for either field trips to areas without water supplies or for emergency prep typically).
