Should I blow off school work to go to the game?

QUOTE (Felix @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 01:43 PM) I have a page paper due tomorrow (which takes no time, admittedly), as well as a test that I haven't started to study for, but neither will be started until this Sox game is over. It's all about multitasking. -

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 01:09 PM) It's long ball or bust kiddies. Live by the sword, die by the sword Does this TB kid give up the long ball often? Gave up 21 long balls this season, 13 on the road in 101 innings. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 10:48 AM) Interesting. If the goofy ones like that are just a handful or some very small %, then I'd say its the same as any campaign. McCain probably has some too. FWIW, yeah. I wonder how much work the FEC typically does after an election to make sure these things get cleaned up. We did see a number of people go down seriously for contribution related issues over the last couple years (a chunk of the Abramoff scandal).

QUOTE (Yoda @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 12:32 PM) This post season would definitely be a lot less stressful if there was a tv announcement on the bottom of the screen warning everyone that the Frank Caliendo ad's are coming up. That or a time clock . . . would be appreciative. Dude...there is. It's called "Outs" When it approaches 3, a Frank Caliendo ad is approaching.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 12:29 PM) I understand your point Balta but how many people out there are thinking "Gosh I really love all of McCain's positions but he's just too old"? Honestly, I don't know. But if my candidate was up there that far in age, and had his health history, and did with his Medical Records what Senator Mccain has done, that would certainly worry me.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 11:02 AM) I couldn't imagine a relevant number of people not voting for McCain solely because of his age. It's probably a secondary reason if that. Race is unfortunately the #1 reason for too many people. Well, this does bring up an interesting topic if you think about it. John McCain is a 72 year old man with a history of cancer. We've had more than a few cases in our history where the President has, thanks in no small part to his age, been at least partially incapacitated or at least not 100% in command of his faculties for the latter part of his term. Eisenhower, for example, suffered a mild stroke in 1957, while Reagan was probably feeling some effects of the Alzheimer's disease in his 2nd term, and in both cases their advisers sort of grabbed more power and ran things because of it. In other words, the country has gone on through this, but it's at least not unheard of. Simple way to put it...if the person you agreed with more of the time was also quite elderly and potentially at the age where you would start worrying about those things, would that be enough to overcome some disagreements with the other candidate? (Note that I posed that question without bringing the quality of the VP in at all). Sort of another version of...in a crisis situation...even if you disagree with someone...would you trust them to make decisions better than a person who is having their age catch up to them?

FWIW, i'm working on a fellowship proposal, but I'm at my PC & I like switching between assignments. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 11:10 AM) I have already heard the first rumbling that the bailout wasn't big enough. Anyways, fun factoid of the day 494 of the SP 500 stocks are down today. Is Campbells soup still going up?

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 10:27 AM) I think the idea here is, its not your radio. This is a key that the owner of the vehicle could give to someone else - i.e. their child - when they use the car. If its your car, and your radio, you just use your regular key. Or...if you're worried about fuel efficiency and you happen to tend to have a heavy foot, this could be useful for you also.

I'd pull an all nighter to go to a Sox game. Hell, how many people practically did that for game 3 in 05? If you've got tix...yeah. Have a laptop? Do some work during pitching changes. The Rays should have a lot of them. -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 10:37 AM) My prediction of a blow out seems more plausible with each passing day. I have a feeling this will resume tightening after at least 1 of the next 2 debates. I really doubt Obama will sweep them. -
QUOTE (ptatc @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 08:15 AM) Or the string theory of physics, where all matter consists of strings as opposed to particles. Actually these days I think they've added an additional dimension or two to those super-strings, and they've now become something like 12-dimensional membranes. "M-theory" is the current term.

Damaso Marte was, IIRC, being booed enough in 05 that Ozzie only was using him on the road down the stretch.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 07:58 AM) Down, down, down she goes. We're off another 5% or so today, dipping below 10,000. Ok, so let's start giving week by week and month by month odds on when "Bailout 2: Electric Boogaloo" is proposed.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 07:07 AM) It mentions using Jose as a reliever next year. I think at this point in his career, if he is willing, he would make a fine late inning guy. Plus, its the best way to keep him healthy. He certainly has the kind of stuff that if you saw it coming out of the bullpen you'd just tip your hat and sit down, even on a bad day he can ace a few guys, which is kind of what you want out of the pen. The worry with him in the pen though has always been that he probably had the longest pregame routine of any of the Sox pitchers, lotta long toss, warming up his fingers for the forkball by throwing a softball, etc.

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 07:05 AM) That's sort of what Kerry tried in 2004 when it came to the Swiftboat stuff. It's great to talk about being high minded when it comes to campaigning, but the truth is raw negativity can work, and if you don't fight back, you can get seriously damaged. As to how long this stuff will fly, it all depends on whether or not McCain can get any traction from it. I get the feeling that Obama won't press his negative attacks if McCain won't. Because, in that sense, he's playing the role of a traditional front runner - choosing to challenge his opponent more or less on issues than character. It will be both interesting and sickening to see how this plays out. That is of course the big problem. If this crap didn't work, then they wouldn't keep doing it.
