QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 04:42 AM) I hate that the first round of the playoffs is almost over. I love having a different game on all day. It's like the first couple rounds of the NCAA tourney.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 06:32 AM) I said it the day they signed him it was a terrible move. They signed a guy who can only lead off but can't lead off... he and Fukudome locked up is just terrible for the Cubs. Soriano is signed through his age 37 year at nearly 18 million. How Hendry even still has a job is a joke. He has given the Cubs 2 playoff appearances in 2 years. For that franchise...that's not that bad.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Oct 5, 2008 -> 12:18 PM) coming from you or any Obama supporter, complaining about 'swiftboating' or 'smear' campaigning is hilarious. like Barry Bonds complaining because Mark McGwire was on steroids. So, I'm not sure I like it, but if the McCain campaign is going to go after the Ayers junk, then I guess this is "Fair" in the Rovian sense. The Obama campaign seems like it's going to make an issue out of the ol' Keating 5 scandal. -
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Oct 5, 2008 -> 06:21 PM) Yep. In fact, the '08 Sox won more playoff games in one day than the Cubs have won in the past two years. Actually...you could correct that to say the last 5 years.

The Angels are now officially imploding. When you let a fly ball drop right in front of you and it results in 3 runs...that's just embarrassing. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 5, 2008 -> 05:12 PM) did anything give you more confidence, than down 1-0, during the interview with Don Cooper, everyone was throwing cups and seeds all over him? The announcers said Ozzie was leading the throwing.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 5, 2008 -> 04:44 AM) Get ready folks, McCain is set tp run one of the most personal and nasty attacks in recent history. Ayers and Rezko are set to be the main top of disgussion my the McCain camp. Not the economy. Not the war. Palin's already bring up Ayers. I guess if you cant bea tup.... Swiftboat 'em. Here's the BO campaign attempting to fight back. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 5, 2008 -> 11:36 AM) Whatever, Ifill, it was you that did the terrible job of keeping people on target. Lehrer would ask again if no one remotely answered the question. To be fair though, the rules for the VP debate were specifically more strict than for either of the Pres debates. Follow ups and repeat questions were expressly prohibited for the VP debate. I'm sure you can guess why.

So that's what Secretary Paulson meant when he blamed this on "Future administrations" (direct quote from him before Congress).

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 4, 2008 -> 11:06 AM) I understand your point but with regards to Obama it's pretty obvious he is a highly intelligent individual. You may not agree with his positions or think he's lacking in some areas of experience but Palin is literally leaps and bounds above her head (edit: I seem to make up knew sayings by the day - LOL ). She can't even answer basic questions from Katie Couric. Let me repeat that. Katie Couric. So, here's my thinking on this. Take a look at the top 4 people and imagine them in a crisis. A Tom Clancy book level crisis, where a presidential decision actually could be important. Do I tell them to launch missiles or not. Do we keep the bombers running. Whatever. You may not agree with all of the people, you may not agree with their decision making process, you may not agree with the decision they come to. But with 3 of them, I think we would all have enough confidence in them that if they were put in that situation on January 21st, they'd at least make what they thought was the best decision they could possibly make based on the information they had. I seriously though can't imagine what would happen if you had to come to Governor Palin on January 21st, tell her that she's the president and that we're facing a major crisis that she has to make a decision on. I don't trust her judgement, I don't trust her understanding of any of the issues that might come up, and I think there's a distinct possibility she'd just crack under the pressure or would panic and make an idiotic move.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Oct 4, 2008 -> 12:24 PM) I think that as well. Around July, many people thought it was St. Louis or Atlanta. To me, I think he ends up in Detroit, and I wouldn't doubt it if CC landed in Detroit, too. Then again, if Sabathia is really looking for a good place for his child(ren) to grow up, then he won't even think about Detroit. If you have enough money...there's no bad place to raise your kids, because you can buy your way away from the bad areas. -
So, the conditions for this game aren't shaping up to be that great, it's currently in the mid to low 60's and it's been misting/raining on and off for the last hour or two. They'll get the game in but if it stays like this it's enough to make it unpleasant.

Twins have "internal discussions" about Cabrera and Crede
Balta1701 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 08:35 PM) You don't think Joe Crede will be a clutch hitter again if healthy? I'd rather have Joe Crede at 70 percent than Juan Uribe at 110 percent. THe only good thing of him going to the Twins is he won't be able to increase his speed. He'll still be slow on the basepaths. Right now I see no reason why any team would gamble more than a million dollars or so on Joe Crede ever being 70% again. And even then they'd want a better backup plan than Uribe. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 08:30 PM) J.J. Hardy? The more I think about it, I'd like to see Sox sign Grudz for pretty cheap for 2nd base, move Alexei to SS, and focus on 3b/CF/SP. Use Vazquez, Fields, Swisher, Poreda, Dotel for trade chips. The wierd thing is...I don't want to see the Sox make a big move at either CF or 3rd base, because frankly I don't know what we have there right now until we play the guys. I actually want to see Fields sink or swim next year after having his knee fixed up, and I think we have more guys who are playing CF than we have time for. But I will agree with you that we need to move for an extra SP. And with trader Kenny, if Fields becomes a chip in a larger puzzle, I can live with that as long as Uribe isn't our starting 3b on opening day next year. -

Balta1701 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 08:26 PM) I think it will be a big mistake to move him from 2b to SS, as he's struggling enough at 2nd base. One of his greatest assets is his ability to turn the double play with the strong throwing arm from 2nd. I don't think he's very good diving for the ball, and he doesn't seem to field balls going well from side to side. Well, the problem with that is...what do we do about SS this offseason if we don't want to move him from 2nd base? No matter how Cabrera's perfomed down the stretch, he's not coming back with the way he's fit in with this team, let alone for 3/$30 or more, and I'm not sure what other options there are out there other than, God Forbid, Uribe.
