Paul Krugman's take:

QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 03:43 PM) Oooo Price is warming, I haven't seen him yet Quite frankly...it'd be really nice to get a couple more runs off of Kazmir before they bring in Price.

4 players that went home AFTER getting to Tampa

QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 05:49 AM) In 2005 it wasn't like Frank was there the whole time. It's normal to get out of the way. However...Frank did show up at the Hotel in Cleveland after they clinched in Detroit ready to surprise spray everyone with champagne. I point this out not to bash anyone who did leave, but because that was so cool -
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 09:16 AM) Just Passed And the market plummets after it's signed. I can only conclude the market thinks it was a mistake, and we must all listen to the market.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 07:58 AM) have you not seen "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids"? It can be done! McCain blocked funding for the earmark for that.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 07:54 AM) i like mccain, but if he is elected i hope the secret service force is like quadrupled to protect the guy...heaven forbid something should happen to him You can't exactly miniaturize the Secret Service and have them protect him from his own body.

QUOTE (rangercal @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 07:50 PM) not sure who you mean Probably thinking of John Lujan, who we picked up from the Rangers by trading Chris Stewart
-
QUOTE (rangercal @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 07:38 PM) that trade was a wash Don't we still have a couple decent minor leaguers we grabbed from the Red Sox?
-
QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 07:26 PM) So if the Cubs skip Harden knowing they won't win the series, will he have enough rest to go past 6 innings in his first start in 2009? Most seasons can't you count on Harden to give you a string of about 10 solid starts before the injuries really hit? Billy Beane was counting on it. He got Harden to 13 healthy starts and said "that's it, I'm not pushing my luck" and took the best package he could get for him.

QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 07:26 PM) That's fine, I respect that philosophy. I'll be able to watch our game tomorrow, so I'm sure the anxiety will be there. I'd actually say I'm a little bit more nervous about tomorrow's Sox game than today's, but quite frankly, if the Sox lose to a better team, I can live with that, and I'm convinced the Rays are a better team. I just did not want to see the Sox lose to the Twins.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 08:20 PM) Obviously Id like to see the Sox trade a few big money players in the off season. Now that they have Danks, Floyd, Alexei, Queintin there are actually young talented players to build around so the Sox just need to start filling in the rest. This offseason, after a playoff appearance, the last thing I want to see is the team go in to fire sale mode on vets just because they're getting old. But quite frankly...we need to clean up that OF mess. Swisher doesn't belong in CF, Dye really doesn't belong at RF, quite frankly Anderson doesn't belong on the bench after showing improvement with the bat finally, and Wise doesn't belong in the starting role, long term. Even assuming Griffey walks, we are in the "More guys than playing time" boat.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 06:44 PM) Roe v Wade is irrelevant basically, its a scare tactic used on Democrats and call to arms for Republicans. Even if Roe v. Wade were to be over turned it would only mean that it reverted back to individual states being able to make abortion illegal. It is unlikely that every state would ban abortion, therefore it would be nothing more than a hollow victory. I sincerely doubt that Illinois would make abortions illegal. At that moment, yes. You're right. However...if Roe V. Wade were overturned...there is nothing except the presence of a Democratic Congress stopping Congress from choosing to ban that practice nationally the moment that the case is overturned. If Bush had 1 extra justice and the case was overturned in 2005/2006, then the Republicans easily could have banned it entirely for the full nation.

QUOTE (Soxy @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 06:30 PM) I kind of like Biden more than Obama. That's not really that unexpected. The VP just has a different role in these debates than the person at the top. Biden simply had more freedom here, Obama's job is to try to avoid angering people at some level, Biden is allowed to anger some people if it appeals to others.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 06:18 PM) What is strange is Palin keeps acting like she is really middle class, I think when the asset disclosures come out shell turn out to be more wealthy than Biden. I'm pretty sure we learned today that her family has about $2.5 million in the bank.
-
QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 06:12 PM) The Dodgers are winning this debate, 5-0. Sneaking in while at a discussion section...yay!

I'm reading that Palin may have missed the name of the top general in Afghanistan despite trying to say it.

QUOTE (striker62704 @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 03:32 PM) If we lose Contreras for 2009 then I would like to see us move Javy, put Richard in at #5 and sign Lowe. He might be in the 3/39 range that Kenny hunts for. I want Javy and Thome both gone. We need consistency. I don't know if he'd play as well in the Cell...but if we're spending some money, going after one of the better sinkerballers out there isn't a bad option.
-
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 02:12 PM) Can you honestly say that in any point in your life you gave two s***s about the VP before this? Quite frankly, the role of the VP has grown massively in the last 30 years, and it has expanded more and more over the last 2 as each president has decided to use their VP more. Over the last 8 years, the vice President has been as close to a co-president as you could possibly get. He may well have made as much or more national policy as the President, because that's what this current president has allowed.

QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 03:08 PM) Bring Back Jon Garland. At least he knows how to win. He's not even making the Angels postseason rotation. If Escobar hadn't gotten hurt this season he might well have wound up in their bullpen. -
We need 1 win in Tampa and to hold home court. We have 2 more shots at the win in Tampa, and Mark will be on the mound for both of them. Tampa has had a weakness against lefties this season (sounds familiar), let's exploit it.

Let's go Dodgers!

That was the worst home run call Farmer has ever made.
