  1. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 02:03 PM) Please don't compare Iraq to Germany/Japan/Korea... that's a pet peeve of mine. That's comparing apples to a 75 degree day. So you're saying that the Iraq war will grow nicely on a tree because of our military presences around the world?
  2. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 02:24 PM) If anyone but Tim Lincecum wins the NL Cy Young it'll be a damn shame. He's easily been the best pitcher in the National League this season, followed by Johan. Brandon Webb isn't even in my top 5. Webb was until like the last 3 weeks.
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 02:38 PM) meanwhile the US is going into Pakistan on raids without their permission. Which is of course...exactly what Obama suggested we should be doing. And frankly, if we can get the guy...
  4. "Swing and a long one to left. It's gonna go! It's a slam! Sox lead, 6-4, light it up!"
  5. QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 12:39 PM) Pujols was a 13th rounder...
  6. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 09:40 AM) I'm itching for Biden to find a way to make Palin explain the difference between Sunni and Shia during the debate. She has still over a month before the debate. She'll have the easy stuff down. The answer to that question is "Drill baby Drill".
  7. The editor in chief of the National Enquirer has an op-ed piece in today's Wall Street Journal. What this has to do with media bias in terms of left/right I don't know...but well, it's interesting as a commentary on our times.
  8. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 08:17 AM) well, we've seen how well it works when you hand pick your own investigators to investigate yourself. It's worked great for Bush. In all seriousness, it could very well be a problem in the end. But that's if the person charged with doing the investigating puts their politics before their job. Senator French is the chairman of the Alaska Judiciary committee, he was put in charge of the investigation by a bi-partisan vote, and up until the day that Governor Palin was nominated for VP, her attitude towards the probe was "Hold me accountable" (and that's a direct quote). It's only after the national party got involved that everyone from Palin's side suddenly was refusing to testify and the political leanings of the people running the investigation became an issue, before that they were happy to work together. Let's look at it from the Republican side...you guys should be happy about it. If the probe comes back and says she's clean, then even the Dems can't say anything because a Dem said so. If it comes back and says she's dirty as all get out, then you can just say it doesn't matter because a Dem conducted the investigation and never heard the side of the Governor (without saying of course that it's because her side refused to testify).
  9. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 09:13 AM) Still no comments about of all the trooper gate players standing being Obama supporters? Folks, this is a VP candidate. If she is unqualified to be a VP, then Obama is unqualified to be President. Clearly no one from one party should ever investigate a person from the other party. Therefore, Ken Starr's tome about President Clinton never really existed.
  10. Nothing from the other side quoted directly in this article, but Senator Obama and a few other Dems are making some noise over those executive pay packages for the bank robbers I mentioned above.
  11. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 11:38 AM) Nextproblem child: LEH. And after them WAMU, then Wachovia , no wait AIG. How about both. They are too big to bail out and they cannot finance themselves. But , yes they are too large to COMPLETELY fail. If I had money in Washington Mutual that I could move, especially if it wasn't in the FDIC insured parts, I'd be getting it out right now. If I hadn't done so already. That doesn't make me face a lawsuit does it?
  12. QUOTE (Nokona @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 08:07 PM) I hate that bear line because it's the only way to properly keep population numbers Of course it is. But if you're going to make fun of one earmark...
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 06:51 PM) and he continues to be one of the Sox best hitters through it all too ONly if you look at his performance. I prefer to look at his nose and judge him entirely based on that.
  14. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 07:33 PM) as opposed to this question is below my pay grade? So you know mathematically somehow that life begins at conception?
  15. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 06:46 PM) Move Jenks and Thome to a contender to start retooling this thing w/ someone young and contributing. Those are two guys who are not bad players now but will drop off a table and become so in no time. Jim Thome continues to have a complete no trade clause whether we like it or not.
  16. Bobby's ERA went up by nearly half a run that inning.
  17. You know, I don't do nearly as much of the random nugget bashing McCain posting as some, ahem, others do...but sometimes you just crack up at one. John McCain, bashing earmarks earlier this year. - Value of an earmark requested by the Governor of Alaska to study seal genetics. The problem of course...is that Bears are godless killing machines. Seals are happy and don't typically kill us. We should therefore understand their genetics better.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 06:12 PM) Sweet, another game where we'll need Jenks for multiple innings. Get Thornton in the damn game. Can we trust Linebrink for 1 out?
  19. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 04:52 PM) Seriously, if Carrasco could get through 4-5 innings, he'd be a godsend. Hopefully Broadway pours Jobu some rum because otherwise he's going to get destroyed. It's one thing to beat a light hitting KC team, it's another to go up against a powerful offense in the Tigers. The way this team has used the bullpen since Liney first got hurt, I can totally understand why they don't want to mess with Carrasco. He's been more of a godsend in the role he's in than he could possibly be in the rotation giving 4 innings.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 05:54 PM) I said it in another thread, but the positive news regarding PK's injury was absolutely huge from a morale perspective. I think Thome and AJ stepping up in the first combined with MB finding a groove might well have helped more. The best possible thing for this team was getting a lead early tonight and MB starting to clamp down.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 05:08 PM) This is as bad as he's looked all season, and that's saying something. I'm sorry, but I feel like you say this every week.
