  1. 8 pitch inning for Halladay. Mark, you can give up 1 today, that's it.
  2. Come on Jerry, do something so that I stop making fun of you.
  3. QUOTE (daa84 @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 04:36 PM) not sure what your problem is, but what was said last night was that hes not even close to the worst hitter in our lineup, let alone the worst hitter in the majors...... Hey, Jerry Owens is up this inning!
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 04:26 PM) How sad is it that it is after September call-ups, and we can't find anyone to give him a day off? We have lots of bad wrists
  5. Since August 1, JD is hitting .246 with a sub .800 OPS.
  6. Create your own joke line. There's too many out there already for me to choose frrom.
  7. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 12:50 PM) Lance Armstrong is right up there with Sammy Sosa on the "he didn't test positive, but damn it's obvious what he was doing" scale. I personally have no hate for Lance Armstrong, he's made himself quite a bit of money doing it and the fact he's even alive is remarkable (although his cancer recovery and cycling careers are seperate things). But to think he's been clean all along is to have your head in the sand. So, I don't know this sport as well as you might...but it's always been my impression that it was as hard to get away with things in cycling as it was in any sport, and especially for the final years of his run, he was probably being tested more closely than any other sporting figure in the country.
  8. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 03:06 PM) So Vazquez is going on three days rest? Why not start Broadway Saturday and Vazquez on normal rest Sunday. Broadway did pitch yesterday as well.
  9. I'm of 2 minds on this. On principle, it's a horrible economic idea, because there are times, like say, right now, when the economy is struggling where it behooves everyone to have the government running a deficit. You can't exactly cut back on spending that easily because the economy slowed down; you're cutting back spending at the same time as more people wind up needing the services (Medical, unemployment, etc.). And, having the government go in to a deficit is a method of re-stimulating economic growth. And then there's the biggest argument of all...war. A balanced budget amendment totally screws you in a time of war. You basically have to repeal it. The problem is of course in practice...because ideally, you'd like to stay at some sort of equilibrium, where when the economy is hot you're actually building up a surplus and paying down some debt, but when the economy hits the skids you dip in to the credit cards a bit more to help things along. But over the last 50 years, and especially with 3 of the 4 presidents since 1981, we've built up a dramatic structural deficit that is now at the point that its existence alone is hurting the economy. There was no point, even at the peak of growth in the last business cycle where we were really anywhere close to balanced. It's far, far easier for a President and Congress to spend like there's no tomorrow if they have no reason not to do so, and that's how we've gotten where we are now. They just pretend the extra money they're spending, in good times and bad, just comes out of the air, and then when China threatens to start selling off the bonds they've taken in unless the government bails out their investments in a GSE, we really wind up having no choice. In any but the most screwed up world it's a terrible idea.

    Hmmm Pedicures

Man, we really need something to shake Tex back in to reality. Like some kind of gigantic, climactic storm or something like that.
  11. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 07:48 AM) This is of interesting note. http://www.wsaz.com/political/headlines/28118604.html Many people think Obama didnt have a shot in hell of winning WV. Might be in play. Hillary... where are you? That's a frankly tiny sample size though.
  12. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 07:19 PM) Owens has this problem called getting on base. In his 2nd callup last year he pushed a .340 OBP as a rookie. That's actually almost exactly what we've gotten out of the #1 spot all year. Getting on base isn't his problem...it's doing something in the process, whether it's being healthy enough to run or accomplishing anything via the hit.
  13. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 07:17 PM) If Owens can get on 35% of the time and steal bases, for a few weeks here...you have to acknowledge that as helpful to our cause right now. Here's the problem. Owens has been hurt this year. Legs, or something like that. He's only 18/28 in steals in AAA. Those aren't good numbers. He's not helping this team if he is getting thrown out 40% of the time and getting on base 35% of the time.
  14. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 06:56 PM) Well this solidifies Brian Andersons spot the rest of the year. Yup. On the bench watching Wise, Owens, and Griffey start in CF.
  15. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 06:47 PM) Fixed that for you. Well, on that we'll disagree. I think bombing half the world is scarier than a capital gains tax increase.
  16. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 06:33 PM) http://news.yahoo.com/s/mcclatchy/20080909...clatchy/3040652 The constituency favoring a balanced budget has never and will never be anywhere close to as large as the people in that constituency think it is.
  17. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 07:42 PM) Hopefully it's not like the definition Halas Hall uses, for a "knee sprain." Remember a few years ago when that was basically the Bears saying "Player X tore his ACL and is out for the season?" Until you do the MRI, there's no way to tell the difference between those 2 cases.
  18. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 07:39 PM) Are we done for the season? No. But a lot of people need to step up for us not to be. A whole lot.
  19. QUOTE (BearSox @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 06:29 PM) A lot of times with these injuries, they are painful as hell when they first happen. If it turns out it is just a mild strain of the MCL, there is a good chance we could see PK back within a couple of weeks. If it turns out it is more severe then a strain or is an ACL injury, then PK's done for the season. Here's the problem. A mild sprain could easily take 3 weeks to heal, especially on a body that's 30+ years old and has a decent amount of mass on it. Even a mild sprain and that's probably the season for him.
  20. QUOTE (daa84 @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 07:23 PM) ya....im far from an expert as well but i have some basic experience with MRI and Xray and they wont be able to tell too much without an MRI X rays are typically only able to see the hard parts within a body (aka bones). they can't for the most part make out the softer tissues, although there are newer, higher radiation x rays coming on line that can do so. The MRI is much better at imaging softer parts.
  21. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 07:21 PM) In football they always say strain the day of and then reveal tear a day later after mri. Technically, if it's a tendon/ligament, it's a sprain. A strain is a pull/tearing of a muscle.
