QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 08:07 AM) Yep. And, he's going to talk our way to greatness, because history shows THAT works. Ronald Reagan says hi.

QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 12:50 AM) Another question .... can Chicago match or out do Beijing? They spent 40 billion dollars on the games. Well, my question is...what all does that figure include? Clearly they spent some good money on the facilities, but I find it hard to believe that was a $25 billion stadium. Does that cost include things like the new airport, transportation upgrades, the economic cost of telling half its citizens not to drive for 3 weeks, etc.?

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 02:47 PM) Bitter, party of Democrats, your table is waiting... And after the last 8 years...I'd say we've earned it.

I think this is the first time I've seen a player on this list and thought "wow, he's too low". I'll add 1 more phrase.... "I don't think that taste is there."

10 game hitting streak for Alexei.

This would not happen to anyone else in baseball.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 11:45 AM) Actually not. Not over stupid stuff liek this. I wouldnt start a gaff counter. There's a difference between making an excited verbal mistakes and not knowing the difference between the various Iraqi sects. I absolutely reserve the right to poke fun. Heck, I'll poke fun at Obama from time to time. Frankly I disagree on this one. I think the "gaffe" clock is a decent idea. Tries to tarnish Biden a bit, focuses the media a bit more if he makes a big one, reinforces a "loose cannon" myth. Would have been a reasonable thing to do to the current fool in 2000.

God literally just missed that one

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Aug 23, 2008 -> 05:25 PM) If you actually break down Bolt's 200M time of 19.30, he ran an average of 3.53 40 time. 1 meter = 1.09361 yards. 200 meters x 1.09361 yards = 218.722 yards 40 yards / 218.722 = .18288 .18288 * 19.30 = 3.5294 Now my head hurts. The problem with that of course is that it assumes he instantly goes from 0 mph to his average speed throughout. That's just not how it works. The startup is going to be the slowest part, as there is time spent taking the body from 0 to whatever its max speed is, so you'd have to use some sort of acceleration curve to actually come up with his 40 time. Or just go to the video and figure out roughly where the 40 yard mark would be. -
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 23, 2008 -> 02:35 PM) By the way, it looks like they are going to stick with the BarackObama.com domain based on the new logo merchandise. This is most likely because there are "domain squatters" on the ObamaBiden sites. Hell, as much infrastructure as they've built up at BarackObama.com, from the blogs to the individual pages, wouldn't moving all that stuff seem nearly impossible?

QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Aug 23, 2008 -> 12:55 PM) Also: why do people believe that McCain is going to bring Romney along? I'd be floored if that happened. It's just not a wise choice in any sense and is therefore highly unlikely to happen. Who is better from McCain's list is the question? If Obama's list was weak, his is an abject disaster area. The top names are usually Romney, Huckabee, Jindal, Pawlenty, Charlie Crist, and then beyond that it gets even more obscure unless he can talk Petraeus in to rocking it. Tom Ridge is out there, but he's pro-choice. Then there's Holy Joe. McCain's going to run on how important experience is in this race, how we need his skill to deal with times of crisis and how Obama's just an inexperienced (Muslim) celebrity. Who from that list isn't exactly what he's hitting Obama on? Bunch of poorly known governors who you pick to try to pick up a state, and a couple of slightly bigger names who would absolutely piss off the base. Pick a name from McCain's possible list...and picture him having to hold his ground in a debate with Biden when the questions are asked about what in their experience prepares them to take over for the President in the event of a crisis. Romney at least has a solid business background to go along with his governorship. But frankly, there's not a looker in the bunch.

QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Aug 23, 2008 -> 12:54 PM) Those aren't gaffes. "We begin bombing in 5 minutes" certainly was...in the sense that he didn't think the mic was on. "I am not a crook"...well...

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 23, 2008 -> 12:47 PM) Going to rain soon at the park. Enough to turn this in to a battle of Carrasco vs. their long man? -
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 23, 2008 -> 12:02 PM) He was also 1-25 in a recent stretch, may still be going on. He is definitely a major leaguer power wise, but he still has some trouble making contact, although he walks a lot. He also really doesn't have a position except DH. A poor-man's Adam Dunn? If that's what he turns out to be, he's with the right team.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 23, 2008 -> 12:53 PM) I liked Raines as well. Later in his career didn't he suddenly stop running? He got slow. Do you think he was a steroids guy? Remember how big he got late? I think Tim probably was in that group of people who learned their lessons about putting stuff in their bodies earlier in their career.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 23, 2008 -> 10:48 AM) See, that is what I am saying. The US went out of thier way to avoid civilian casualties, sometimes to their own detriment. I didn't see Russia going to the UN trying to get a diplomatic resolution before invading. I didn't see Russia get together a coalition of other countries to help them liberate the poor city that wanted Russia back. I also didn't see Russia give two s***s about the poor Ossetians before Georgia seperated either. To give the counter-point...did you see the Georgians going before the UN to get a resolution on the matter before they launched their attack that started the campaign? Did you see Georgia going out of their way to avoid civilian casualties in those territories before the Russian counterattack began? And Russia has had an interest in these territories for years, even though it hasn't been enough such that we paid attention. In 1991-1992 these same provinces tried to break away from Georgia, Georgia invaded them, Russia sent what aid and equipment to the provinces as they could at the time, and wound up helping to broker a cease-fire and stationing peacekeeping troops there.

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Aug 23, 2008 -> 08:12 AM) I am not a huge Biden fan. I think he has some baggage (plagiarism, bankruptcy bill) but by and large he makes sense as a good pick. Can't attack Biden on family values, can't attack Biden on experience, and Biden adds the same level of foreign policy expertise that Dick Cheney did to a Bush nomination in 2000. I'm probably less of a Biden fan than most people here. Really never liked him and he's never given me reason to. I would honestly have preferred almost anyone else from the field, and I'd really have preferred a surprise choice somehow. I understand why he made the pick. It's the safest choice, it almost guarantees a win in the VP debate because the only thing weaker than the Dem VP selection field is the Republican VP selection field (seriously, Biden vs. Romney/Huckabee/Pawlenty/Jindal?), and at least he is suited to his one constitutional job...being ready to take over in the crisis that hits if the President is incapacitated. But honestly, it's not like I'm voting based on the VP, but if I were, I'd be a little less likely to vote for that ticket today than last night.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 23, 2008 -> 01:02 PM) No I still think Bush is up there at #1 with the "fool me once" gaffe. That one might never be topped in my lifetime. Frankly, it's not even close. The only one I'd say goes up there with it is the legendary "We begin bombing in 5 minutes" and "I am not a crook".

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 02:06 PM) Bumper Sticker Could Indicate Bayh Is Obama's Veep The sticker doenst look very "Obama-ish" Although, it does use a similar font. See my signature below. Compare Obama to Obama. You know, I'm actually wondering if this might have been a plant...the campaign asks someone they've contracted with before to send that message out, knowing Drudge will run with it... Could of course be made to eat my words, but it would seem odd that they'd make the mistake of placing their order before telling everyone else.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 06:01 PM) That's a good point. Man, I dont want to get woken up at 7AM. lol Yeah, that would be like 4:00 PST. That might annoy a few people out in those western states he'd like to get. If that schedule is true, it really suggests it has to be someone not on the stakeout list. Of course, the campaign did manage to pull off a Barack/Hillary meeting and no one had a clue about it...so they've snuck people past the media before.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 04:39 PM) If we held the games who should tight the torch? (I know a LOT can happen between now and then) But if it were today, who would it be? Outgoing President Barack Obama? Mayor for life Daley? Michael "going for gold medal number 30" Phelps?

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 05:50 PM) How, exactly, do they plan on shuttling in the VP without the press noticing? Maybe they expect the press to ntice overnight when most are sleeping. Couple options. Either they send the text message just before they start moving the person (the event tomorrow is scheduled for 12 CST according to the campaign website. It can't be more than a 3 hour flight from anywhere in the country to Chicago, less if it's from somewhere like Indiana, probably 2 hours from DE or VA. They could send the text out at 7:30-8:00 a.m. EST and still have a good 5 hours. Or...it could just be someone that's not being staken out.
