  1. 26 pitches in the first for Jose. Hopefully he can settle down a bit in the 2nd and get through things quicker.
  2. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 10:30 AM) I agree. It is still reprehensible that our general manager put us in the situation. KW should have expected Danny Richar to have gotten hurt. You need an all star backup at every position in this league otherwise you're screwed.
  3. QUOTE(daa84 @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 10:27 AM) hes up there for me, but i dont think hes the #1...top 5 or so though I'd vote for those dudes Pujols and ARod above him. Maybe Manny/Ortiz also.
  4. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 10:27 AM) This is not about today, it's about a series of offseason decisions. I don't see how you can't be incensed that we don't have an experienced backup middle-infielder who's not a complete f***ing moron. There's a lot of negatives in there, but I think the response to the statement is "Pablo Ozuna"?
  5. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 10:13 AM) We flat out suck right now with RISP.....this needs to change NOW Coming in to today, we were 18th in MLB with a .194 batting average with RISP. The worst team in baseball is hitting .059 and the 3rd worst team is hitting .087. The bottom 3 teams? The Yankees, Astros, and Detroit Tigers, in order.
  6. QUOTE(Chi Town Sox @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 09:41 AM) I downloaded this, Do you have to wait until gametime for the audio to show up? I click on listen to WSCR and nothing shows up? They won't turn it on until pretty close to gametime for each feed. It should be working right now though.
  7. I was considering not getting it this season because of how bad the team was last year and I wasn't sure how often I'd use it. Then the team hired Steve Stone. Sold!
  8. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 09:07 PM) If only the league allowed a player to rehab for 19 weeks . . . They do. It's called a "Minor league option".
  9. So many are cold, shivering in the night. So I say take those cats. Skin them! Use their fur to keep hundreds warm!
  10. Still doesn't beat "I don't think that taste is there." But not bad at all.
  11. QUOTE(lostfan @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 07:50 PM) They were booing Larry Hughes tonight too for some reason. What the hell did he ever do to Cleveland to earn that? However, it made me feel better to see Ben Wallace miss another easy layup and the crowd groaned. He took a lot of money from them and didn't perform well at all.
  12. That's just Bobby Cox proving once again that he's smarter than all of us.
  13. QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 06:33 PM) 3B: Fields > Crede (There's no doubt that Fields is the better hitter) DH: Thome I'm actually going to have to take you to task on this...yes, last year Fields had a decent year for a rookie. But Fields only played 2/3 of a season at 3rd, Joe Crede with a back injury played a good chunk of the season there. So while Fields may be a better hitter, simply saying that Fields is better than Crede and therefore we've downgraded at 3rd base offensively simply isn't correct. If Crede put up Crede Average numbers for a season, .260 BA, .750 or so OPS, over a full season, that's going to be an upgrade over Fields with a .785 OPS for 2/3 of a season and Crede with a .500 OPS for 1/3 of a season.
  14. RResearch 2000 polls Indiana, Clinton 49 Obama 46, 5% MOE. Public Policy Polling, the one who showed BO in the lead in PA, has called out the doubters, including Kos by name, on their blog. And they got a call from this "Obama" guy.
  15. QUOTE(iamshack @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 06:15 PM) Seriously, I was just watching the Braves/Pirates game and they showed him straining his pectoral muscle while warming up....he's seriously made of glass or is a total wuss. Considering how many surgeries he's had, i think it's the former.
  16. Mike Hampton pulled from his start with an injury, again. Do I even need to provide a link? Seriously? To a Hampton injury? Just find one.
  17. Anyone who's interested, we're trying to hold a mock draft over @ Talkbears, and we need people to play GM's! Please join in! Link.
  18. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 03:35 PM) To put it in perspective as well, Cueto is only 22 years old. He has the type of arm that dominates a division. If the Reds can pitch, they can win that division for sure. Right now their top two can probably competed with the division fav's Cubs and Brewers. Harang and Arroyo are solid NL starters, and if Cueto can pitch like he did today, they have probably the best 1-2-3 in the division, Fogg is the #4 which isnt horrible in the NL, and Volquez who was the top guy in the Rangers system brings up the rear with a mid 90's sinker and a plus change. And if anyone goes down, they still have Homer Bailey still down at AAA trying to develop right? (Man, just like a lot of pitching prospects, there's a guy they held on to one year too long)..
  19. Another interesting bit of news...according to Bloomberg, Obama now holds a narrow lead amongst superdelegates who are actually elected officials (governors, senators, congresspeople, etc.) while Hillary's lead is made up entirely out of people who do not hold elected office. Obama also leads 16-6 amongst first-term congresspeople.
  20. H Christ this is a machine. Another $40 million in March for Obama's campaign, 442,000 donors, 218,000 NEW donors. With basically no primaries after the first week of the month.
  21. Darin Erstad, Luis Terrero, an injured Scott Podsednik, an injured Alex Cintron, an injured Joe Crede, an injured Toby Hall, Andy Gonzalez, Gustavlo Molina shared some 1316 at bats last year. The team also tried out several rookies, including Richar, Fields, Owens, and Sweeney, who were raw but getting their first real taste of MLB pitching. And on top of that, Jermaine Dye was hurt for half the year and had a down year, AJ Pierzynski had a down year, and Konerko had a down year. The only 2 people on our team with batting averages of .275 or better were Thome and Mackowiak. Simple regression to the mean for half these guys makes this offense better. Giving at bats to Swisher, Quentin, A-Ram, Anderson, instead of Pods, Erstad, Terrero makes this offense better. Joe Crede hopefully not being in pain makes this offense better. The team being deep enough to give Dye days off if he needs them makes this offense better.
  22. I think that Quentin + Anderson + Owens + Swisher for about $25 million looks a little bet better to me than Fukudome and Soriano for about 6 times that amount.
  23. Not sure where to stick this but wanted to write it somewhere. If you've never had the chance to be getting dressed in the locker room at the gym of an institute of higher education while at the same time2 there are 2 guys on the other side of the locker room going off on a quasi-racist rant which I believe included El Salvadorians, Russians, Ukranians, and most of all those nasty Muslims, during which an African American and a Nobel Laureate walk in to the same room, listen in for a moment, and roll their eyes in your direction after they realize what they've walked in on and then make a joke or two to each other...you should try it. It's quite an experience.
  24. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 11:41 AM) cool, I really, really, really wish the Sox would stick him in to center and let him have a go at it, he improves the defense so much. Just the limited sample I've seen, Swisher is a solid OF, nothing spectacular, but listening to Stone and Farmer they've mentioned on a few plays he takes good paths to balls, either flies or cutting off a ball that got down Swisher had a good catch earlier running in to the wall. But honestly, I still say there's just no one in MLB who covers the ground Anderson does in CF. He plays balls well before they're hit, he gets as good of jumps as anyone, and has really good speed. Swisher isn't bad out there it seems. Anderson is stellar.
  25. QUOTE(Felix @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 11:39 AM) I apparently missed the whole game, but does anyone want to give me a recap? Looks like Danks did well. The Sox gave up 2 hits. Danks gave up 2 hits and 2 walks in 6.2. The bullpen performed quite well. Sox had a few chances to open the game up & didn't capitalize, Crede & Uribe with solo shots. Westbrook really slowed us down, both starters had strings of 11 in a row retired.
