  1. Unfortunately, with Richar's injury issues...the correct answer for now is Uribe. But with a very short leash. And we should make every effort to set up a middle infield of Alexei and Danny next year.
  2. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 08:07 PM) This is probably Floyd's last shot. Either he finally lives up to his potential or he dies off like so many others. This is probably his last shot with the Sox. Someone will still sign him to a minor league deal if we're forced to let him go and he'll be considered a 6th or 7th option if someone gets hurt or implodes.
  3. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 04:53 PM) They could just do 3/5s if they want to really disenfranchise everyone...
  4. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 02:46 PM) Two new nicknames today. Javier Vazquez: The Silent Assassin Alexei Ramirez: The Cuban Flash Can I just go ahead already and shorten Alexei's name to "The Clash"?
  5. QUOTE(Princess Dye @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 02:31 PM) who had the error that helped bring on these unearned runs? The Box Score says it was Gabe Gross, and it sounds from these folks like it was on a ball hit by Anderson.
  6. Vazquez gives up a home run in the first to Gabe Gross. Clearly he's done. I have an urge to make a "Javy sucks" thread.
  7. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 12:59 PM) D'oh. Yes. F'in accounting crap on the brain. Dammit dude, you posted this as I was defending you!
  8. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 12:56 PM) you mean 527s In the Republican party, they're much more likely to use 501c3 organizations, which at some level are similar to 527's in that they are outside groups that can run attack and issue ads, but they're less regulated in terms of disclosure requirements. The basic dividing line is that the 501c3's have to offer something else, and can't just pop up or focus solely on an election like the Swift Vets or Move On's election fund. The NRA, for example, is your classic 501c3. As are most of the religious groups within that party. The 527's can certainly make a difference, but one could argue it's the 501c3's that have the real power in the Republican party, because donations to those organizations don't need to be disclosed like they must be with 527's. The moneys can't be used in the same ways, and there are dividing lines within those organizations that enable the money to be moved around, but they are certainly key groups.
  9. QUOTE(greg775 @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 12:40 PM) Olivo shoulda been a career backup catcher with the Sox. The Sox backup catching slot has been and is a disaster. Hmmm... Miguel Olivo Freddie Garcia
  10. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 12:27 PM) Which I think they both did, but, it seems Ozzie and KW feel otherwise. Oh well. I hope Mike does well. Ok, slight edit...they had to beat out MMac under the Erstad/Anderson rules from 06, where it had to be overwhelming.
  11. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 12:07 PM) Wass and Carrasco will probably be in AAA, and my guess is so will Ohka. Masset will get the job. Ohka and Wass's only shot for the job was to beat out MMac.
  12. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 11:24 AM) So it seems like Masset has the inside track. Unless someone came in and offered KW something quite valuable for Masset right now, I'll give you a guarantee he makes the team unless his arm falls off. KW isn't going to let a guy he was so happy to trade for walk away for nothing at the start of the season.
  13. QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 10:05 AM) I hear you, but it has to be worse than -$750M. Far worse. True. I'm sure they owe their execs a couple billion.
  14. QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 09:58 AM) I was asking rhetorically, actually. But it's far worse than that once you add the $30B in loan guarantees that the Fed provided. Well, I figured they were sold for $250 million, if their building is worth $1 billion...
  15. QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 09:54 AM) Reportedly, the value of Bear Stearns' building in Manhattan is about $1B. What does that say about the rest of their assets? -$750 million.
  16. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 06:14 PM) What no mention of the 400 point plus day? If the Fed really did bail out banks, buy Citibank, because you will NEVEr see it that cheap again. Citigroup is down about 9% on the day and is about 15% down from the high at the end of the day last Tuesday. If people start getting the sense that Citigroup is the going to go belly up (I believe someone called Lehman brothers as being next in line last week, and they're turning out to be right) please let me know. I've got a bunch of credit card points built up with them that I was going to cash in for hotel rooms in a few weeks, I was just sort of hoping that a couple more price cuts would appear before I booked them, and I don't want them becoming worthless overnight.
  17. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 06:35 AM) Man. What a trainwreck. And it is getting worse by the hour it seems. The wise old man, Alan "Mr. Bubble" Greenspan, chimes in with another round of "Oh, it's not my fault, I did great work, it's the models that are inadequate".
  18. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 07:46 AM) if BA is the 4th OF, IMO, he can back up all 3 spots. How many ABs do you see him getting? Depends on an awful lot of things. Injuries by any of Dye, Thome, Konerko, Owens, his performance, Owens's performance, etc. If he's hitting well he ought to get over 400 AB's because he'll be helping us win games. But I really don't have a clue.
  19. Didn't even need to think about the answer.
  20. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Mar 16, 2008 -> 06:30 PM) Usually Boras is cut out of the mix AFTER he has already bagged his client a huge payday. Sheffield, Jones, A-Rod all got their big paydays before they let him go. I dont know that Crede is going to take that risk Boras is still ARod's agent. I believe the same is true for Jones unless something changed after he signed with the Dodgers?
  21. QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Mar 16, 2008 -> 06:21 PM) Its another case of him denying everything. He isnt going to go and admit any fault in anything but these are a lot of coincidences. Did you even bother reading either of those pieces?
  22. QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 16, 2008 -> 05:29 PM) Today Gavin Floyd had a case of Jon Garland Syndrom, when a pitcher mysteriously loses his balls and makes the cowardly lion of the wizard of oz look brave. Now that's just Sad.
  23. Fed gives it an emergency .25 point rate cut today to try to stem the disaster that BearSterns' implosion is trying to become.
  24. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 16, 2008 -> 04:21 PM) Stranger things have happened. Who would have thought Buerhle and Dye would be back? Who would have thought in April 2005 if told Konerko would have a big year and hit 40 homers that he would be back? I think its something you can worry about later. If Floyd and Danks and Contreras and the bullpen are as good as KW is advertising, this would be a move to make the White Sox a world champion. Considering Konerko hit 40 in 2004, I don't think it was that shocking that he hit 40 in 05 also. The one thing that might be different with Crede and all of the other examples you cite is that Scott Boras was involved in none of them.
