  1. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Mar 15, 2008 -> 12:33 PM) I'm not trying to be argumentative, but I'd like to see quotes on this. I don't remembering reading anything about Billy in that regard. Robertson, Falwell, yes, but not Graham. maybe his son? Graham's clearly not at the level of the other folks you mention, or even of his son, but I can give you his appearance on some of the Nixon tapes talking about how the Jews control the media and how that control needs to be broken.
  2. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Mar 15, 2008 -> 12:22 PM) It would only take one year of offseason training to strengthen your wrsits and forearms. I mean I don't know much about Sweeney, I liked him, but if his only problem is wrist and forearm strength...they have tons of excerises for that and a trainer would have him fixed in one offseason program. Where do yo get this stuff? Has Ryan or a trainer or something come out and said his wrists are weak or have you just observed this? Maybe you should call and let him know...I'll bet he would be thrilled to know his only problem is he needs to work out a little. Sweeney has actually had wrist problems for a couple years now, and it probably has slowed up his career a bit. He's also young enough still that he's just now hitting the age when a solid weight training program might be able to start doing something about it, depending on how he develops and fills out.
  3. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Mar 14, 2008 -> 10:27 PM) When he took Tyrus out the game, Philly went on, I believe, a 20-4 run or somethin like that in the 4th. Other than Gooden, the Bulls had no reboundin threat at all... or shot blockin. Of course I will bring this up. I keep pointing out the same thing. Boylan is seemingly obsessed with his veteran rich, small lineup, with Deng/Noc at the PF Slot. It works on occasion, but he keeps going to it down the stretch or in key positions when the other team starts to make a run, putting TT and Noah on the bench, and the Bulls keep getting overpowered every time.
  4. QUOTE(Whitewashed in '05 @ Mar 15, 2008 -> 10:14 AM) Quentin's injury has really screwed him of a chance to break camp with the big league club. Well, that, and Anderson has played well enough to earn another chance.
  5. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Mar 15, 2008 -> 09:26 AM) Is there anyone in the minor leagues capable of stepping up and taking a shot if Floyd, Danks, and/or Contreras don't work out? Having Danks as the #3 doesn't make me very confident going into the season. Lotta people with some potential. Egbert, Broadway, Sisco, Haeger, possibly Masset although he'll probably be in the pen to start the year. No one who you're going to look at and think "This guys is going to win 20 for me this year" but that's several guys with some potential as MLB Players. Egbert has a good sinker, Broadway's developing in to what could be a decent pitcher, Sisco wasn't bad last year at AAA once they made him in to a starter and he still has that fastball, Haeger still has the knuckler, etc.
  6. Well, if there ever was such a thing as a team in disarray, it's IU. Or the Bulls, take your pick. They really need to right that ship and rebuild from the ground up next year. This is just embarrassing.
  7. Why is it that the first thing I thought when I saw the "Tournament of Bad" name on the thread here is "Ok, who changed the name of the Big Ten Tourney thread"?
  8. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Mar 14, 2008 -> 02:39 PM) Harden should be traded before the season starts. No reason for the A's to have any premier pitchers left, if they won't compete. I would think that with two weeks left to go our pitchers would be looking better than they are. Too many walks and hits before they get out of an inning and finally it bites them. I for one actually think that if the A's can get a few healthy months of Hardin doing what he's actually supposed to do, they'll jump at the chance to move him before he gets hurt again.
  9. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 14, 2008 -> 10:49 AM) Obama: I profoundly disagree The Obama campaign added another statement on there about an hour ago. Supposedly he's making appearances on all 3 cable networks tonight as well. Crafty enough to make one believe he's a closet 5th columnist Muslim!!!!
  10. So, does this thread mean he's not a Muslim?
  11. Jose finally runs out of luck in the 4th and gives up a 3 run home run to Barton. Sox down 5-0, Harden yet to give up a hit.
  12. Jose getting hit around pretty hard, 4 hits and 3 walks in 3 innings, but just those 2 runs so far.
  13. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Mar 14, 2008 -> 12:33 PM) is there any word on how prior is doing this spring? They're bringing him along very slowly.
  14. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 14, 2008 -> 11:26 AM) Rockies will be pretty good, so will the D-Backs. I actually for some reason was thinking the D-Backs were in the Cental. But in any case, as I said, SF isn't going to just give up the ghost because they lack the bats to be a great team. People here seem to forget that - teams want to be competitive, even if they aren't likely to win a championship, because it puts people in the seats. And you seriously think that the NL isn't the weaker league? I'll agree with you on the NL/AL split, but I have to agree with him on the NLF West. Outside of San Francisco, that division is loaded with talent. I could hypothetically see the Padres competing if one or two of their reclamation projects (Prior?) turn out solid for them, but the other 3 teams are just stocked with ridiculous amounts of young talent. I think it's entirely possible that any of those 3 teams could step up this year and be good enough to hang with the best teams in the AL.
  15. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 14, 2008 -> 09:29 AM) On the housing portion of the economic mess... not surprisingly, California is seeing the biggest dips in prices. That market was so absurdly overinflated, this should come as a shock to no one. How's this for financial planning? I moved out here in 2003, looked at the housing market, said to myself "There's no way this market is going to survive where it currently is" so I decided to rent instead of trying to invest in a condo. I've spent several tens of thousands in rent to live out here for several years...but looking at the median house price graph for this region, if I'd bought a condo 4 years ago, and was still holding it today, I'd have essentially no equity because all the money I'd have spent on paying down the mortgage would have been wiped out entirely by the price drop that's happened so far, and I'd be trying to sell the place to avoid being stuck in the "loan is more expensive than the condo" mess that people are getting in. Any additional price drop beyond about this point (and believe me, there will be more) would have knocked it down to the point where I'd have lost more money than what I've lost by renting for several years. The only way I could have done better would have been to buy a place in 04 and sell in 06, but that'd have been me gambling on being able to pick out the market peak before it cratered.
  16. QUOTE(ROC Sox Fan @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 07:13 PM) Pretty funny Dewon Day tribute. How do you post the video directly to the forums? Copy the text for "Embed" from Youtube, and when posting, turn on the "HTML On" option before telling the post to go.
  17. QUOTE(JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 06:25 PM) I thought Wasserman had a good shot at the team? He had a good showing last year, and I don't recall him struggling this spring, has he? Wasserman's problem is not one of his own making. Wasserman could be perfect this spring and he may still not matke the team, his problem is that he has minor league options remaining and guys like Masset do not. So the question is...would we rather lose Masset for nothing and keep Ehren in the pen or would we rather send Ehren down and try to develop Nick. If the team thinks Nick has any future at all, and can't get a solid trade for him, they're pretty much forced to send Ehren down. If you throw Ohka and MMac in there, we've got 4 guys competing for 2 spots, 1 of whom has to be on the roster, and 3 of whom can be sent down.
  18. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 02:44 PM) Epic fund raising day for Obama scheduled in New York later this month. The web page you linked to says their goal was $500k for that day. That's hardly epic. That's 1/3 of the daily amount they took in during Feb.
  19. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 02:33 PM) How is there not a law that prevents a felon from running for office? I find that to be odd. EDIT: So let me get this straight. If you're a felon you cannot vote but you can run for office?!? It's actually a state issue. Most states prohibit felons in prison from voting (like 48/50), some states prohibit people on probation from voting, and something like 13/50 prohibit anyone with a felony conviction from voting.
  20. New debate schedule! The Clinton Campaign agreed to a debate in Philly on April 16th and the Obama campaign responded by agreeing to that debate and another in North Carolina on the 19th.
  21. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 01:36 PM) I just caught this, and my god, I'd do that deal in a millisecond, provided Brand is healthy and producing like he usually does. I wouldn't want to give up Noah in any deal for Brand since giving up both him and TT would leave us constantly stuck with only 1 big man, but otherwise, it'd be hard to come up wiht a deal that I wouldn't like for Brand. If he'd be willing to come back here at all that is.
  22. Todd Jones has put up an ERA of 24 so far this spring.
  23. The nice thing about being people is...we can use logic to deal with each and every situation. For me personally, I would still enshrine people based on numbers, but I would do so with a careful eye towards the juiced part of the era, and I would try to exclude people who I thought had seriously damaged the game with their work. For example, someone will make the Bonds was a HOF guy before he juiced argument, but I'm going to count him out based on the fact that including him would add shame to the Hall of Fame. I'll say the same thing for McGwire, and I'll say the same thing for Clemens unless he somehow pulls a rabbit out of his hat and wins a defamation case while avoiding prison for lying to Congress. I could be convinced to admit a cheater if he was willing to admit what he did and cooperate...if they had the numbers. For example, his numbers aren't there yet, but after being caught in the Mitchell report, Pettitte has opened up and has been a key part of the Clemens takedown. If he had a few Cy Young seasons under his belt or something like that, then after his performance this year, I'd be willing to consider him. Otherwise, I go back to the numbers, but I still keep the steroids thing in mind with the idea of rewarding the people who I think did their work cleanly. Pedro. Thomas. Thome. Manny. Maddux. Glavine. Smoltz. And so on. Those folks dominated the era and as far as we can tell they did it cleanly.
