    School Reunions

10th would be in a year. Probably won't go, haven't even finished up the Ph.D. yet, and I'm 2000 miles away.
  2. No offense to Javy...but: BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
  3. QUOTE(iamshack @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 07:50 PM) No, I meant, might he waive it right NOW. The Mets need an OF NOW and have been linked to basically every OF'er possible at this point... I highly, highly doubt you could talk him in to waiving his NTC in training camp right after signing a new deal.
  4. QUOTE(iamshack @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 07:43 PM) Might he waive it for a chance to play for the Mets? Hmm... It'll probably depend on how this season goes. If we're on pace to go 70/90 again this year, then he might well waive it to go to a contending team. But the problem is...if we're on pace for that kind of record again, the odds are that things blew up in the field again. Either Anderson sucked or Quentin was hurt or JD had another bad season, etc. If JD is having a decent season and the Sox are in the race, it'd be really hard to move him. If something goes really wrong, what are the odds that JD is having a great season despite everything else being bad?
  5. QUOTE(KevinM @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 07:38 PM) The best thing for this organization would be a young, cheap, outstanding outfield of Swish-BA-Quentin 2009 and beyond. I like JD, but his defense is fading quickly and a good first half should allow for a decent deadline move. JD has a no trade clause this season.
  6. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 06:47 PM) oh, not really. "Fawning" may be a little harsh, but the reality is that he WAS made to feel all welcome and nice touchy feely good kind of stuff. Except for the excoriating introduction he received?
  7. And on the subject of that darn liberal media breaking the story or whatever the Heck we've been going after...The NY Times gets the real scoop and finds the girl.
  8. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 06:28 PM) So what did he say? Link. Video probably soon somewhere.
  9. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 06:19 PM) Anyone catch Olbermann? He went off. I except him to be in a body bag in a year or so. He ended his monologue with "Good night and good luck" which I thought was pretty cool. Pretty sure he always does that at the ending.
  10. The House Dems yesterday seem to have successfully passed a bill that will create an independent, non-partisan ethics committee outside of the normal House processes. There's still some efforts at stonewalling but it looks good on paper. All you need to know about it is that one of the arguments against it was this one: Also, David Corn finds writings by the man McCain called one of his "Spiritual Advisers" saying that the single duty and sole reason America exists is to destroy Islam.
  11. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 05:29 PM) s***, I'm just expecting that from BA now. Ha. I was going 30 for Swish, 30 for Quentin, 20 for BA. Figured in a full, healthy season those should be minimum numbers.
  12. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 05:09 PM) Then why have them on the map? Geographical continuity.
  13. QUOTE(bmags @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 04:39 PM) By the way, NY Post's headline two days ago for this scandal: Ho NO! I hate the paper, love the headlines. (favorite being: "Ike beats Tina to death") Colbert reserved "Elliot Mess" Monday night before they went to press.
  14. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 04:34 PM) Would it be silly for me to say that if Owens and Dye get somewhat injured, that the Swish-BA-Quentin (would be one of the best D in baseball) would probably not help our "playoff chances", but would save our future of seeing BA and Quentin develop? I dunno, 80 home runs, lotta OPS, solid defense from that OF? Seems good all around. That's if Quentin can stay healthy though. If somehow all these OF's came around, and Owens could come up with a .350+ OBP and stay healthy, then suddenly, we're in a position of strength, and we're able to move 2 of Dye, Thome, and Konerko, save a boatload of money in the process, move 1 of them to DH and keep them healthier, and maybe even get better as we get a bit younger, faster, and play better defense.
  15. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 03:55 PM) Who is this guy wearing Brian Anderson's jersey in the spring training games? Must be Erstad.
  16. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 03:34 PM) They did a study on any additional cost to taxpayers about having Indiana move to honoring DST and I think it cost the state's residents 8 million dollars in additional electricity/energy costs. That's the study I alluded to in that post, and for once I was too lazy to hop over to the energy thread to look up the link.
  17. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 03:23 PM) While we have no idea how this will translate, if this is at least part of an indication of some improvement on Brian's part for this year, that makes us that much better. IF he keeps this up...there's only 1 way to see how this will translate. Play him as if he's the starting CF in April (and for God's sake don't screw around and put someone else in there on day 2 of the season just because).
  18. QUOTE(BurlyMan56 @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 03:20 PM) Brian Anderson just received his ticket to Chicago today I wouldn't go that far. There are several more weeks in ST remaining. He has to keep this up until the day the season starts. No major slumps. Bad day = ok, but make up for it with good days.
  19. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 03:15 PM) If they're both hurt, he may be playing himself into the CF job. Even if they're approaching healthy...if he keeps this up, there's no good reason, even from a guy who likes both Quentin and Owens, to put either of them in the big leagues over BA (put Owens as the 4th OF or Hell call it a platoon at worst). Having Anderson turn in to a solid OF dramatically improves this team for this year and in future years. It turns any OF for the next 5 years into a solid defensive OF no matter what. It gives us a lot more flexibility in that we go back to holding 4 young OF's under contract for the next 4+ years, along with JD. It gives us the ability to move either JD or PK directly to DH next year, or even this year, if Thome's option isn't picked up or if he struggles with injuries. And if somehow we decide that we're in a position to move a veteran player, it allows us the flexibility to move either JD or PK for a good haul and still be able to fill their shoes.
  20. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 02:48 PM) I like that is occurs earlier in spring and later in fall. Lot of darkness here in Chicago. Not all of us are as fortunate to live in sunny California. I grew up in that area, and I think it's a bad idea. I posted a study in another thread showing how it actually has helped increase power consumption/CO2 emission around the country, using Indiana as its guide. And since half of my clocks automatically switched to DST on their own before the change, now all my clocks screw up an extra 2 times per year.
  21. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 02:35 PM) It's rare that I give credit to GWB but I am happy that he signed the bill that changed the dates for DST. Why?
  22. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 02:28 PM) For someone who claims to be ready on Day 1 why does it take Clinton 2 or 3 days to act on things like this? You can say that a lot about the Clinton campaign. Why didn't they have a better plan for caucuses, why did they plan for everything to be over on Super Tuesday even in the weeks leading up to that day, etc.
  23. BA with his daily home run today already....
  24. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 12:25 PM) would like to see the sox start running out their projected lineup, like the tigers did today (in a game they're leading 10-3). groupies will be happy to see that dreamy BA in the lineup, but sad that it's in LF. Is Swisher in CF again? Right now, I'm pretty happy to see BA just getting AB's. If he's going to prove he's ready with the bat, that's what he needs.
