Scott Spezio of the Cardinals seems to be facing some fairly serious charges stemming from an alcohol related car accident in Irvine, CA in late December. Could face up to 2 years in jail. Yeesh, what is it with these Cardinals?

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Feb 27, 2008 -> 02:06 PM) Obama's church publishes Trumpet Magazine which stated Frarrakhan " truly epitomized greatness." The guy that runs this mag is Obama's spiritual adviser I guess. It's legit to question the Obama on this issue when the guy publishing this is a honored associate of Obama. Imagine of McCains spiritual adviser was David Duke. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...8011402083.html Actually, the metaphor would be if Obama's spiritual advisor/church pastor praised David Duke, not was David Duke. You need 2 degrees of separation there, not 1.

Here comes captain Sisco. 1 quick out.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Feb 27, 2008 -> 01:49 PM) Perhaps Hillary and Russert were expecting Obama to finally reply "If I ever see Farrakhan in my path I will kill him with my bare hands". The way it sounded to me, the only thing that would have satisfied them would have been for Obama to say "No, I don't want him voting for me".

QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Feb 27, 2008 -> 01:46 PM) Obama denounced the man as an anti-Semite last night. What more do you want? The fun part was that after Obama denounced him the first time, Russert decided to press on it harder, so that he could find an excuse to start bringing in some of the quotes to try to smear Obama indirectly. So Obama denounced him again. And again. And again.

So, despite laws to the contrary, the TSA seemingly hasn't bothered doing background checks on seemingly well over 10000 foreigners currently enrolled in U.S. flight schools. But thankfully, the government can read my email. I feel safer.

QUOTE(knightni @ Feb 27, 2008 -> 01:38 PM) If they outlaw the use of high-fructose corn syrup in food products, they might just have thinner kids and more corn available for ethanol. For that to happen...we have to find a supply of a sweetener that could replace corn syrup at a reasonable price. For example, sugar. But the votes of a small group in Florida have a habit of being more important for some reason. And after 50 years, the embargo finally seems to be working! -

QUOTE(daa84 @ Feb 27, 2008 -> 12:40 PM) the fact is that having option is never a bad thing....isnt a decent risk (especially for a big spending team like boston) to take a flier on guys like colon or garcia? pay em half a mil...throw em in AAA or give em a shot in the bigs...if htey stink cut em or let em rot in AAA...whats the risk? If Schilling is out for the season, then it can't hurt to have a couple other options. It's possible that Garcia, Colon, and Schilling could give you 20-30 starts together this season.

Has the Internet taken some fun out of baseball?

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 27, 2008 -> 12:51 PM) I've seen plenty of posters be equally (or more so) dismissive of those who feel that some factors in the game can never be captured in the numbers. Some things just have to be seen, and sometimes, there is more (or less) to a player than their stats indicate. On the other hand, I think sometimes stats can catch some interesting trends that your eyes don't always see. -

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Feb 27, 2008 -> 11:21 AM) If he is healthy the NL is really going to be tough as the Mets, D'Backs, Dodgers, and Reds are all vastly improved. And on top of that, the Brewers are a year more experienced and have tasted failure once...the Phillies have strengthened their pitching staff, the Rockies are a year more experienced (Ubaldo Jiminez anyone?), St. Louis could get Carpenter back at Midseason and can throw Glaus and his needles in behind Pujols, the Astros added Tejada to what looks like a potent lineup, etc. Both leagues have a few teams that you can just sort of say "They're probably out of it" like the A's, Giants, Pirates, etc., but otherwise, as usual, most teams have plenty of reason to hope at this point.

The Clinton Camp is now trying to prevent superdelegates from coming out and putting out endorsements for the near future because they think that anyone who's endorsing will go with Obama.

Am I the only one who has heard anecdotes of kids back in the 50's reading the daily box score and going through all the numbers on how their favorite players were doing? Why is it looked like such a bad thing that people pay attention to the stats? I think I'm vastly more interested in the game these days and the fact that it's such a fun game to know the numbers on certainly contributes to that. I can sell myself on this team a lot better, for example, because I realize that one of the key problems for the team last year was that they couldn't take a walk to save their lives (Grindiness!) and to fix that problem they brought in guys like Quentin and Swisher and O.C. who are significant upgrades in that regard over their predecessors.
