  1. QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 06:55 PM) From the people who didn't consider head in the office sex? Anything is possible. Hilary took a kick in the vag tonight, and I think Obama will carry this momentum... but I'd feel silly counting the Clintons out just yet With Obama already pulling ahead in NH, if historical precedent holds at all, this wins him the nomination, maybe in a near sweep. Because this should turn into a solid lead in NH for him, and a win in NH should give him the whole next round except for Michigan.
  2. So, something was wrong with CNN's numbers earlier. Rudy is actually coming in 6th, with 4%. Ron Paul coming in 5th with 10%.
  3. So, if anyone ever doubts the Des Moines Register poll again...the DMR had Obama winning by 7 points, 32-25-24, with Edwards and Clinton 1 point apart. The final results? It appears Obama's winning by 7, 37-30-30, with Edwards and Clinton less than 1 point apart.
  4. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 06:32 PM) Go Obama. For an extreme right wing religious fundamentalist canidate, Huckabee is somewhat likeable. Although if wins the presidency i'm moving to Ireland. Am I allowed to call this the biggest Colbert bump yet?
  5. QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 06:31 PM) how do you figure that? the highest he was projected to finish in Iowa was 3rd... he's running 4th. New Hampshire is McCain's big chance, he's made a furious run there and has pulled into a statistical tie with Romney. No matter what happens, the media was going to declare it as a win for McCain anyway. And they might have done the same thing with Obama too. Because they've decided those are the likeable ones.
  6. 40% reporting on the Republican side: Huckabee Romney Thompson McCain Giuliani Paul Hunter 14,045 10,084 5,950 5,194 4,901 4,379 168 31% 23% 13% 12% 11% 10% 0%
  7. Some things worth noting...so far, it seems turnout is very high, which is in no small part why it seems Obama is taking it. The Obama campaign estimated 207,000 turned out, well over the number from 04. That is a very hopeful sign for November. Esp. if Barack is a big part of the reason. Also worth noting, there are reports that the youth vote actually did turn out for Barack, showing up at roughly 20-25% of the electorate, which is roughly its share of the population. And the reports are that the under-30 crowd went to Obama by like 5-1.
  8. I must say, I am really, really impressed at how well the Iowa Democratic Party's results page has performed tonight, simply as a common online election watcher.
  9. I think it's down to a race for 2nd.
  10. QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 06:10 PM) Mike Huckabee....Seriously Iowa? The Republicans have had the Christian Coalition vote on their side for decades now. Aren't they due a chance to have one of their own win?
  11. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 06:04 PM) Obama slowly pulling away from the pack. Not surprising that the movement would be pro-obama late. The early districts should have been more rural (less people and quicker, easier to count) while the latter ones should have been more urban and hence more Pro-O. With more than half, that 2% lead is starting to get larger and larger.
  12. CNN has projected that Mike Huckabee has won the Republican version of the Caucuses.

  14. You want to see what close results look like?
  15. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 05:24 PM) Dontrelle Willis ain't going to be happy about this move then. Although it would be quite ironic if Santana was dealt to either the Yanks or Red Sox considering our pitiful record against him, and considering we're trying to improve against LHP. There's still Liriano...followed by Captain Cheeseburger, etc.
  16. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 05:24 PM) Howie Kendrick and Adenhart. You're funny.
  17. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 05:18 PM) I'd try to dump either Uribe and / or Crede, and still upgrade the back end of the rotation and the pen. Then this team can start to think about contending. If they can't improve those 2 areas still, then I don't think we will (but we could still suprise if things fall into place). I still don't see anything on the market right now other than through an unexpected trade that would actually upgrade the back of the rotation. Colon I have a feeling is finished, Garcia probably will miss 1/2 the season, and somehow I'm not excited by giving Kyle Lohse 3/$36. I think gambling on Floyd and Danks is still the right choice, even after the Gio deal. We still have a few potential backups in Broadway, Haeger, and Sisco who might be able to fill in if someone fails miserably, and I'd rather go with our $400k guys than spend a couple million on someone else at this point.
  18. QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 05:14 PM) When did they get Carter, in the Haren deal? That is correct. They got a bunch of guys from Arizona, including both of the guys Arizona picked up from us in the last 6 months.
  19. QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 05:13 PM) Does anybody think Ozzie would consider moving Dye to left field and playing Quentin in right? Can you give me a good reason why that would actually improve us?
  20. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 04:56 PM) I think we can safely say that barring a move that puts Swisher at 1st, we can put an end to any Crisp rumors. Thank Jeebus.
  21. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 05:06 PM) Konerko and Crede for Santana, Shields, Figgins, and a prospect or two makes too much sense Maybe for us, but the Angels would never do that deal.
  22. QUOTE(JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 04:48 PM) What about Crede and Dye for Victorino and some Phillie pitching prospect. Outfield then of Quinten - Victorino - Swisher. Phillies get their 3B, and a pretty good RF in Dye. If the Phillies had any pitching prospects, or really anything interesting at all, then perhaps I'd consider it. But there is absolutely nothing the Phillies have that they'd consider parting with which would make that deal make sense for the Sox.
  23. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 04:33 PM) FWIW, Baseball Cube had Swisher with a range factor of 2.62 in CF. Owens had a 2.65, and Rowand had a 2.64 [and 2.57 in '06 and '05]. If Swisher can play CF on a regular basis and not be a butcher out there, it will help the overall lineup for the short term. I wonder with something like that...how much would RF vary if performance stayed constant moving from park to park? IIRC, Oakland has a pretty big park and is considered a pitcher's park, I wonder if moving to a much smaller OF might give him fewer chances to get to balls because more of them hit the walls.
  24. QUOTE(JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 03:54 PM) Call me crazy, but, isn't Thome still an injury risk? So you set your team up with Quentin, Swish, and Dye. Thome gets subbed out every 4 or 5 gms. Dye then moves to DH, Swish to RF, and Owens in CF. And inevitably, Thome or Dye will get slowed down with an injury at some point, so then when one of them does, Owens goes to Center, Swish to RF, and whichever of Dye or Thome DIDn't get injured, DH's. Sure you can try and trade Dye for some prospects, but then what happens in Thome gets injured again? Pablo Ozuna plays DH? Well, you're right, Thome is still an injury risk, as is JD while we're at it. But the best answer I can give to that is my classic theory...you can't have Johan Santana stuck in the bullpen just in case one of your starters gets hurt. Injuries will happen, it would be intelligent of us to be careful with JD and Thome to try to minimize them, but they will happen. I think that if/when Thome hits the DL this year, the logical move is Owens moves to starting CF, Swisher moves to either RF/1b, and Konerko/Dye alternate DHing, and you try to get around it as well as you can. You can look at just about any team in baseball and say "Oh, what happens if player X gets hurt, they're screwed". If Thome goes down for the full season for some reason, we're not winning the Central, and we'll probably finish last. If Cabrera goes down for Detroit, they might compete with us for that spot. If Johan went down for the Twins, ditto. You play the guys you have and do the best you can at some level, because you can't just keep talented guys sitting in the dugout in case someone gets hurt.
  25. If McCain pulls 18%, He's a big hero. If Hillary Clinton squeaks by with a win at 33%, she's been rejected by 2/3 of the Democratic party. Thank God the media is on the Dems side...
