QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 11:06 AM) Yeah but you forgot to mention that you somersault all the way to work and back. Usually its roughly a 10-15 minute bike ride.

Official Ron Paul numbers nearly equal to McCain's fundraising:

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Oct 2, 2007 -> 05:12 PM) I've been doing 10.5 hour days at work for about a month now. I'm wrecked. IN general, for the past 6 months or so, I've been averaging 13.5 hours from the time I leave the apartment in the morning to the time I come back in at night.

QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 10:59 AM) Here's what we do-we tie Reinsdorf to a chair and make him watch that Double Beating in the day night DH by Minn. over & over til he gives Hunter what he is asking for and sticks it to the White Sox. Fixed that for you.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 10:52 AM) He still has one more year in arb? OK, I stand corrected. He isn't a free agent - he'd have to be signed and traded. Somehow I don't see anyone bothering, but you never know. Anyone know when the arb offer deadline is? ESPN

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 10:37 AM) Top 3-5 in baseball and the best available in free agency IMO. A few years ago I would have agreed, but I think this is one case where the number simply aren't lying. The standard Defensive numbers for Jones are decidedly middle-of-the-pack, and I think defensively that's where he is these days. He has just lost an awful lot of steps, and if those steps didn't reappear in a contract season, they're not going to reappear.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 10:47 AM) 1. Pods is a free agent, you can't trade him. Well, to be more precise, the Sox can still offer Podsednik arbitration, which does leave him under our control. If another team were willing to pay him $3 mil + for a year, and give the Sox something, the Sox could work that out.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 10:00 AM) OK, gotcha. We'll see if KC offers it. Back to A Jones... no thanks, even for 17 or 18 per over 5. Not with the salary situation the Sox are already in, and with Jones' career trend. What if it was $13-$15 for one (i.e. if no one offered the $18+/6 that Boras will probably demand)

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Oct 2, 2007 -> 08:29 PM) the Iraq war has possibly been the biggest waste of money in US history. I have a feeling the whole thing will end up running about $1,000,000,000,000 and for what? oil? please, i wish. we aren't getting any oil. the whole idea of "nation building" is being shown for what it really is. You know the wierd thing? This doesn't convince me at all that "Nation building" as a concept is inherently flawed. This debacle convinces me that nation building by people who don't believe or care about nation building is guaranteed to be a debacle, and that imposing a built nation on a group that doesn't want it by force is virtually impossible.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 27, 2007 -> 11:56 AM) First off, let's see if the GOP can talk some sense and avoid that. Then we'll see if the cooperation can extend a little further and over ride. But this is a step in the right direction. As Dems all we can ask is an honest effort at compromise, and based on what I'm reading, that honest effort has happened. And there's veto #1... Just remember, you're counting your hopes on someone being able to talk some sense into this President. Good luck.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 08:49 AM) Agreed on the defense. The one thing I like is the added speed that Richar brings and the possibility that he can replicate Gooch's power numbers. However Gooch has been hitting .300 with Philly and has shown that he is most valuable in the 2 hole, something that we really need. I see a lot of problems with this type of thinking. Financially and production wise. I'll give you the best possible example I can; the Dodgers. The Dodgers have that gigantic boatload of young talent. Kemp, Laroche, Loney, Ethier, etc. But what do they do last offseason? They decide they're not yet ready to trust these guys, so they go out and spend money on resigning Nomar, signing Luis Gonzalez, etc. Then what happens? The kiddies continue to develop, put up in many cases vastly better numbers than the vets, but the vets have to keep getting their playing time because you can't waste that kind of money with people sitting on the bench, so Matt Kemp hits .342, puts up a nearly .900 OPS, but only gets 292 at bats, while Gonzalez puts up a sub-.800 OPS, hits .278, and gets 464 at bats. We have better and more intelligent places to spend our money than on blocking the young guys we have who are actually producing. Richar is already several steps ahead of where I though he'd be, and showed that in September with a good hot streak. He is only going to get better from here, and I think it's a step backwards to think that "Oh, he's young, he can't possibly be ready" just because he's young and it's possible he'll struggle next year.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 08:58 AM) He wont have to. It might well depend on how high he's talking. If he thinks he's a $20 million a year player, I think any GM out there would be stupid to risk that on him after a .222 season. If he comes back and puts up another 50 spot in a contract year though, he'd probably get that.
-
QUOTE(chiguy79 @ Oct 3, 2007 -> 08:47 AM) he wasn't named the most over-rated baseball player for nothing... KW please stay far...far away... If he has to accept one of those classic "Boras 1 year make up for a bad year" deals, a-la what Millwood, Weaver kept having to do, I would actually be open to that.
-
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 2, 2007 -> 12:55 PM) Fixed that for you. I'm trying to find some way to turn this into a pun, I just can't really get beyond the fact that 10% of this nation's pork spending would fund the Iraq war for less than a week.

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Oct 2, 2007 -> 10:52 AM) The maximum amount that any one person can donate to a campaign should be the maximum amount the candidate can donate to a campaign. Romney hasn't raised that much more than McCain for example. Yet he leads the money race, because he's sinking 100 million dollars of his money into the race. So then the issue always winds up being...what stops a candidate from dumping $20 million or so of his money into some organization that is formed outside his campaign but happens to favor policies he likes?

QUOTE(Yossarian @ Oct 2, 2007 -> 10:54 AM) Too bad for the Pirates and the Royals. They have some good building blocks, but ownership is content to pocket their luxury tax money and screw their fans. I'd like to have some of the players on the Pirates and Royals and see what our strivers for excellence could do with them. I continually underestimate the deep reservoir of good will possessed by our GM and Manager. I hope both of them shut me up next year, and the year after that. I want the Sox to win more than I want to be right, but I'll still call it like I see it. I'm not crazy about what I see now, let's see what Kenny has up his sleeve this winter. And that is entirely the right perspective on this organization I believe. Things went haywire this year. Even things I thought would work blew up on us. That can not become a trend.

Would the Mets deal Reyes?

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Oct 2, 2007 -> 10:35 AM) Send Reyes to the Twins in a package for Santana. Hachi machi. That would actually make sense for both sides, if the Mets had another SS option. That's one guy who makes the Mets better no matter who they give up, and that's the talent level the Twinkies need to get back for him. -
QUOTE(Yossarian @ Oct 2, 2007 -> 10:32 AM) How long are you going to reward him? Is once every 90 years or so good enough for some of you? Why not strive for sustained excellence? I'm glad I lived long enough to see the Sox win. I hope the younger generation, which dominates this board doesn't have to wait so long for the next championship. There's nothing wrong with sustained excellence, just as there's nothing wrong with 1, or even maybe 2 down years depending on how things look. KW shouldn't be rewarded with a lifetime contract for 1 series win in 05, and KW shouldn't be fired for 1 down season in 07. If this isn't looking upwards at the end of 08, we'll talk. If it stagnates for more than 2 years, it'll be time for a change.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 2, 2007 -> 09:38 AM) A lot of people equate freedom to spend your money however you want with freedom of speech. I don't really agree with that, but I do agree that since McCain-Finegold passed, the system has gotten WAY worse. Of course, the question in reply to that is...did the system get worse because of McCain Feingold or in spite of it? And if so, what part of that bill was it that did the job?

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 2, 2007 -> 09:12 AM) The Sox are sick of Anderson and they will probably look at moving him, but they won't move him for nothing. They will move him for another highly touted player that has busted a bit (both teams will essentially be counting on a change of scenario helping rejuvanate each players career). I wouldn't complain at all if that was the case, I just hope we can find something of quality in that bust. I'd take a Gavin Floyd level guy any day, for example. Because I have a feeling Anderson will wind up shipped out to someone for the equivalent of a Dubee, some A ball relief pitcher we'll never see again, and he'll wind up putting up the numbers we wanted him to put up here for someone else.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 2, 2007 -> 08:44 AM) Wite, I am not sure if your new sig is more or less distrubing than pancakes-for-nipples man. Vastly more. -
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 10:14 PM) I do not wish that to be the case, as Atlanta has a history of absolutely raping teams when giving up a bag of baseballs. And IMO, whichever team winds up being the one that gets Anderson for a bag of balls will wind up doing exactly that.

QUOTE(Felix @ Oct 2, 2007 -> 08:10 AM) Thats true, but when the majority of the people here seem to think he's the Michael Jordan/Rickey Henderson (based off of more than just this one thread, past threads have wreeked of peoples ridiculous mancrushes on Reyes), it gets ridiculous. When Jordan played, there was no doubt he was the best in his sport, let alone his position. Reyes isn't anywhere near that, as he's not even the best at his position. When you expand that to include everyone in the league, he's top 10, at most. Even if all that is true....that doesn't mean the Mets will trade him for less than a King's ransom. -
Scott Schoeneweis received steroids while on the White Sox

QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 08:44 PM) Real classy to be taking steroids after being a cancer survivor. Am I the only one who wonders if those 2 issues might well be linked?
