Miscellaneous "White Sox" Trade Notes
Balta1701 replied to Kalapse's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(BearSox @ Oct 13, 2007 -> 07:09 PM) I wouldn't mind seeing a signing of Jose Molina... Oh, he'd just get hurt while playing 1b... -
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Oct 14, 2007 -> 02:32 PM) I still feel to this day that Garland's performance in game 3 was the most impressive of all our starters during those playoffs. And that's saying quite a bit. I think the remarkable think to me about that game was that his best pitch, his 2 seamer, didn't seem to work at all that day. So he just went out there, fired in the 4 seamer at 94 on every one of the Halos, and just beat the Hell out of them.

I can't tell you how annoyed I am about watching the Chargers/Raiders game right now.

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Oct 13, 2007 -> 01:01 PM) and a broken clock is right twice a day... So what happens when the blind dog finds the broken clock?

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Oct 13, 2007 -> 08:17 AM) good point.. we kind of screwed them with the Garcia deal... I doubt we see another Phillie-Sox transaction this winter. Next rumor..... And yet, that Iguchi deal really wound up working out well for them. They got a division out of it.

Doug Davis is a monster with the bat.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 07:25 PM) Way to respond to bulls*** with bulls***, and I eagerly anticipate the next bulls*** -- "Well, George W. Bush is more responsible!" If William Henry Harrison's inauguration speech had been shorter...9/11 would never have happened!

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 05:36 PM) Red Sox really look unstoppable Well, for now it's just one game. The Yankees sure looked unstoppable in game 3 back in 04.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 04:01 PM) Outsourcing will continue to spread the gap. I know a lot of companies are now starting to outsource HR, and Accounting. Increased profits, less good paying jobs in the US. I know some major corporations that want outsource around 20% of all HR and Accounting jobs. And eventually, it's going to be this movement that drives something to finally change. Because when 20% of Americans feel their jobs are threatened, it's a bad thing, but not always enough to overcome the people with a lot of money. But when doctors, lawyers, accountants, and so forth start feeling threatened because it's fairly easy to train a person in China or India to do their exact job for 1/4 of the price, and 50-75% of Americans suddenly feel like their job could be outsourced...that's the kind of motivation that gets the government actually involved.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 02:44 PM) that would be a six-year, $42 million contract. I would sign him for that. And all that for a guy who was called a "4th OF" on this site more than Owens, and who's salary a lot of us seemed glad to clear 2 years ago.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 01:54 PM) an OF of burrell figgins dye....IF fields uribe richar kotchmann, thome and AJ....yeah id be ok with that, while at the same time not adding any money.....wed jump from last in the league in OBP to the top half now waking up.....i do think that garland for burrell is a very likely possibility, each guy has a pretty big expiring contract, and it fills the other team's needs..... and garland and crede were mentioned separately in a philly paper (though that is not any less speculation) http://www.philly.com/inquirer/sports/2007...es_on_arms.html I think as a pitcher, Garland should have vastly more Value than Burrell. Pitchers should be much, much, much more in demand than OF's are this year.

Please just keep him out of NY.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 10:49 AM) I don't disagree with that. But why not have Crede initially start your year at 3rd, as he proves he gets healthy you turn him into more prospects (who you can than eventually swing at the deadline if necessary, or maybe even project into the back of your pen or as backup plans in case anything goes wrong in the rotation). This is actually a reasonable idea and it's sort of one of those things I've had in the back of my mind for a while, but it presumes one thing; we can have an extra OF ready by midseason. If we could do that in some fashion, this plan would work, because you'd have to be out of your mind to start Fields in AAA this year. If we pick up an extra OF, then Owens could start on the bench or in AAA next year, and if Crede were dealt, we could shift Fields back to 3rd and plug Owens into LF hopefully without missing a beat. Or, conversely...if we don't sign an OF, God forbid one of our other OF "Prospects" actually finally acts like they're ready to produce, and the same thing works. But of course, that means Anderson or Sweeney, and right now, God only knows with those 2 it seems.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 10:33 AM) Not sure what that exactly means. Are the only viable candidates the ones that are ranked #1 in book sales? Or are you saying that a cat should run for president? Just think, we could have another President Garfield! Farm subsidies directed towards lasagna ingredients! A president who sleeps less than Mr. Bush! Picturing Tim Russert..."Mr. Odie, as Vice President, what would your response be to an attack that removed the President" "SLURP!"
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 10:38 AM) By doing this you now have Rivera in CF with Figgins playing in the middle infield somewhere. The Sox also have the flexibility to swing Crede elsewhere if they wanted to (without getting major leaguer's in return, rather prospects). No one's giving up anything valuable for Crede until he proves he's healthy. The only reason Burrell made sense was as a salary dump, and prospects aren't salary dumps. We'd be looking at a price similar to what we got for Iguchi or Mack, some obscure A-ball player with a 1/100 shot at the big leagues someday.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 10:14 AM) I don't see any big pop bats on the FA market Rodriguez? Bonds?
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 09:59 AM) The Sox won't get s*** if Crede walks unless he has a pretty big year next season. Burrell on the other hand will likely be a Type A free agent, Crede at best would be a type B since his 2007 season was such a disaster. I wouldn't say that with certainty. A lot depends on how many other IF's actually hit the market that year. The example I'll keep citing until I'm blue in the face is Eric Gagne last offseason. He pitched a total of 15.1 innings over 2005 and 2006, and yet still went as a Type A Free Agent. The system supposedly according to the stuff I've read is only supposed to look at the last 2 years before the player hits FA, but yet Gagne still went A. I think Crede could well go A if he has a good year.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 09:46 AM) It is more Stoneman that would have the stroke than Moreno. I would definitely have no problem with that deal. Burrell slides in at LF, Figgins in CF (or at 2nd or SS), Dye in RF, Fields at 3rd, Insert SS, Richar, Kochman, AJP behind the plate. That is a pretty solid offense and you obviously get picks for Burrell if he walks (than again you'd get picks for Crede too most likely). Does Figgins have the ability to play SS? Because it'd make a lot more sense in this market to either go with Owens for an OF slot or spend some of our money on an OF right now than it would to try to magically find a SS when the only one really on the market is Eckstein (and we'd have moved our best trading chip in Garland already without filling that spot).

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 08:10 AM) Gotta love that Ann Coulter chick. I think she really likes Christians. You know, with each successive book, I think a few more people start to get that the real issue is not what she says, it's that there are people like that host who are dumb enough to let her onto their show, and the fact that they made the decision to bring her on to let her have the microphone is as big of an issue as what she says with it.

QUOTE(RME JICO @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 09:37 AM) I wonder what the current market is for someone of his caliber at his position? 8 mil / 10 mil / 12 mil a year? I think 14 per year is a reach. Last year, if he had hit FA after putting up these sorts of numbers, he might well have gotten $14/6 or something like that from some team. This year, I'm just not sure...for the simple reason that there's 3 big name CF's on the market and a couple of smaller, "Bargain basement" type guys as well, and htat just might saturate the market for once. We'll see. If the market can ever saturate at a position and drive down the price, it'd be this year at CF, since there just don't seem to be that many teams in need right now.

QUOTE(DaGame2584 @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 09:26 AM) Yes I know about the site, but I thought it would be a fun discussion. What would you guys think if the Sox traded PK & Jon to LAA for Kotchman, Santana, Figgins, and Wood. Then did the Phillies deal? Could we still get Hunter? If somehow the Halos would actually be interested in that deal, which btw, would probably involve Arte Moreno having a stroke considering how long he's held onto Wood (no comments), then yes, we'd have more than enough money to go after a Hunter, if you though he'd be worth the contract he's going to get (I still don't).

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 09:18 AM) You're really stretching this one. Like I said, NASCAR fans come from all walks of life. I'm not sure he's stretching at all. Seriously, don't these type of folks meet with constituents all the time? Do they screen every constituent they meet with for biological agents before allowing people to shake hands? Why would you say this particular group is a big deal?

QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 09:16 AM) aGREED Now take the next step, the country also owes trillions to foreign banks because we demand they cut our taxes and borrow money. Then what happens? We invade them, duh.
