  1. So let's see, Mr. Bush's first middle finger to the new majority was the renomination of John Bolten, despite the vehement opposition of the majority and the fact that it was going no where. Bush's middle finger is certainly getting some work today. Even the Wall Street Journal seems surprised how Brazen he's being. Link 1. And just in case that wasn't enough, Bush also renominated Kenneth Tomlinson, the disgraced, corrupt, former head of NPR who has been directing U.S. overseas broadcasting. How long you want to bet it is before the whole media apparatus comes down on the Democrats for not being willing to work with the President?
  2. Moving Crede is not a horrendous idea...but moving Crede for something as little as Figgins is. With the Talent the Halos have, Figgins, one of their failing prospects (Kotchman, McPherson), and one of their solid prospects (Santana, Wood, Kendrick) would placate me for Crede.

  4. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 15, 2006 -> 09:37 AM) I wonder if he is the one with the evidence to indict Dick Cheney... If so, he better watch his face.
  5. So, if you happen to be unfortunate enough to serve for 10 years as the Governor of a state which doesn't allow donors to give you gifts upon your departure...take heart, young candidate, all is not lost. All you have to do is set up a wedding registry. Yes that's right, a wedding registry. Even if you've been married since 1974.
  6. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 15, 2006 -> 04:58 AM) I think Bush has been very clear about not staying "Fovever", but doesn't want to put a concrete date to anything so these blowhards can sit, wait for that date, and then blow everthing up the next day. If nothing else, GWBush has been 100% crystal clear that we're not leaving Iraq as long as he's the President. GW has defined leaving as losing, and so by not leaving, we're not losing. As far as I can tell, to him, it seems to be as simple as that.
  7. About 8 months ago there were rumors that he'd also be taking down 30-35 Congressman, mainly Republicans...but those seem to have failed to come to pass.
  8. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 10:19 PM) There were a few guys on flight 93 that were in the US legally as well. They just were innocent foreigners who wanted to be commercial flight pilots. So fine...if you're convinced this guy is guilty of something, bring him up on charges.

QUOTE(Brian @ Nov 15, 2006 -> 07:18 AM) I have sent this thread to local authorities for a hefty reward. So it looks like I'm making money off this as well. Dude, seriously, the NSA's already archiving everything at this site. Everyone wave hi to Mike and Stan, they're the guys following me around!
  10. Pleasantly surprised to see Hoffman finishing second.
  11. You know that old saying that if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all? Well, I've come up with something nice to say about this proposal. At least Anderson isn't being traded for Barry Bonds. That's about it.
  12. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 04:42 PM) He also is just the "general chair." He won't actually run the RNC, just be the face of it. Hmph, how very odd. Seems you're right. No idea what that actually means.
  13. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 05:48 PM) Why would it change, Rex? There's simply no reason to think anything will change. In other words...if something does change, be excited and let them have your vote next time it comes around. If not, then we'll see if the other side has any better options. Eventually, some party is going to be stupid enough to realize that they can win a bunch of elections by actually changing the culture of lobbyists and pork in Congress, because the people are sick of it. At least, that will be my hope.
  14. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 05:25 PM) Werd. I concur.

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 05:18 PM) I have a 20 Inch Screen that I can get two feet in front of.. you'll go blind that close with a 46" Name a console game that you can't get for PC? All console games flow smoothly onto the PC, but PC games suck on consoles because they're so limiting, i.e. Command and Conquer, Half-Life, Counter Strike.... Console games couldn't begin to compete with MMORPGs. I'll tell you one thing...PC's may be good for a lot of things, but this PC has never been good for gaming. And I've tried. Bought it brand new, and right out of the box it was slow for some things, and as it has aged, it has gotten worse (I think I've said repeatedly that the CD drive hasn't worked in about a year, and it's only a 3 year old PC).
  16. I could get into the economics part of this discussion, and you can probably guess more of what I'd have to say, but seriously, this one has already reached that point where it's just going to be people banging against each others' heads. The whole of the Bush economy has been one of contradiction. Some bits of data go in 1 direction, while other bits of data go in the other direction. Government revenues are up, but median income has been dropping. Inflation is in check, but who knows what that will do to housing prices. When it comes right down to it, you can't lecture people on their personal economy. You can't create an ad telling people the economy is doing ok if they feel like they're close losing a job, or if they can't afford to go out and buy the things they want to, and you can't convince a person who's constantly getting raises and feeling better that the economy isn't doing well. When the economy does what it has done for the last 4 years, with different indicators going in all sorts of crazy directions, you are going to run into plenty of people who have totally divergent feelings on the economy, and no amount of advertising is going to convince them otherwise. I think the reality is as I said before: nearly 3000 Americans have died in a war of choice that we're losing, and the economic situation at home would have to be awfully good before people would start turning their backs on it.
  17. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 04:22 PM) They put Mel Martinez up for the Chair of the RNC? What a joke. Our whole politcal ssystem SUCKS right now. Link, just in case you missed it. Supposedly it was one of those Rove-type surprises, where he just dropped the name of the White House's choice on a bunch of folks who totally didn't expect it. The reaction from the right wing blogosphere has thus far been quite negative.
  18. Since we're all focusing on corruption now with the Murtha/Hoyer debate, let's hit on another note: the new chair of the RNC, Mel Martinez. (Martinez is also the guy who's office shed one of its advisors after it produced a memo saying that the Republicans should use the Terri Schaivo case for big political advantages and the memo was handed to Pat Leahy on the Senate floor IIRC)
  19. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 03:33 PM) And I think that was his parties' mistake. He needed to turn it to what's happening here, and also it is about Iraq. Easier said than done. When you're in the process of losing a war of your own choosing, it's not exactly that easy to get people to "look over here, see, the stock market is up!" (Especially when median incomes aren't rising either, and health care costs are going up, and so on)
  20. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 03:36 PM) And she should. Murtha is just exactly what they were "trying to get rid of in Washington". The only problem, like I keep saying, is that Hoyer just isn't that much better at all. He's your classic "get as much money as you can from lobbyists" type Democrat, which to my eyes, is basically just as bad. Perhaps more disturbing to my eyes is the fact that it also seems Jane Harman is going to lose her position as chair of the House Intelligence committee to a person who, while working as a judge, was impeached for taking a $150k bribe.
  21. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 03:22 PM) oh, it's cool, i'm just here to pad my post count... Which is of course exactly why I replied.
  22. Give Jim Hendry 9 second baseman and watch him rule the world!!!!
