QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 02:57 PM) If you trade one of our starters to the Mets or Yankees for top pitching spects, it makes BMAC expendable for Crawford IMO. Which is a nice situation to be in. Or we could just deal the guys we get from the Mets/Yankees.

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 02:56 PM) wasn't he on the Foxnews morning show from time to time? I haven't watched it for almost a year, so I don't remember. Quote from, uh, post 1.

Exactly where he belongs.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 12:11 PM) Logic is nice and all, but that all goes out the window when Boston steals the spotlight from The Boss. If the Red Sox get both Datsuska and Drew, the Boss will give his first born child to get players into the Big Apple, especially pitchers. Plus they know with the overvalue of starting pitching, if the Yankees won't give up what Kenny wants, someone else will, and then the Yankees are in even bigger trouble. I see no reason to deal with the Yankees at all if Hughes is not involved.

QUOTE(munchman33 @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 10:40 AM) Who says they won't? The 15 other teams with $20 million to spend and need of starting pitching.

I'm shocked, you hear me...shocked!!!

Don't we have open spots on the 40 man?

Why is it that the Yankees are not only the team I don't expect to come calling, they're the team I least want to see come calling?

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 09:35 PM) i was commenting on the descriptions you posted. on another note, so much for ending the "culture of corruption" http://www.citizensforethics.org/activities/murtha.html Exactly the point I raised earlier. I only wish I felt like Hoyer was better. I don't. Murtha and Hoyer both make my list for different reasons, but I still don't think either of them are that clean. I really wish someone else was in the running.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 03:31 AM) Would be interesting if you offered him to teams like the Dodgers, Mets or Angels and could get prospects the caliber of Brandon Wood, Matt Kemp or Lastings Milledge as part of a package for him. With the only really big bats on the FA Market being Soriano and Lee, and to a lesser extent now JD Drew...and with as many teams looking to add a bat as there are, there are going to be a lot of teams who would be willing to give up a lot for a guy like JD. And this offseason is the ideal time to make that sort of move...coming off a career year, with 1 ungodly cheap year remaining on his contract. Especially with JD's "Freak" injury history before coming to Chicago, which just IMO is another small reason to at least be open to the idea. A better option would be to resign JD this offseason. Much better. Show the loyalty if we can. But as with the other guys who hit the FA market after 2007, I wouldn't be averse to trading them if we make a genuine attempt to resign them in January and they say no, they want to hit the FA market. Thus far, it seems like the Red Sox, Blue Jays, Dodgers, Cubs, Astros, Cardinals, Angels, Mariners, Nationals, and maybe a half a dozen other teams could be interested in a power hitting outfielder at JD's price. They sure as hell aren't all going to land Soriano.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 07:31 PM) haha, nice descriptions, project "Smart Vote" So if you actually follow the link, you'll see that I just culled the recent years/descriptions from another page that summed up the recent rankings for Murtha, and in fact that page as far as I can tell is only presenting the data. There are A LOT more rankings at that page than what I posted.

Tex, Kap, here's one for you. A couple years ago, Governor Perry thought it would be a good idea to get in nice with the Republican majority, probably because he was convinced of that by Delay, so he went and had the state of Texas sign a $15,000 a month deal with a Republican lobbying firm that was very very close to Delay. So, congrats...the state of Texas is now paying $15,000 a month to lobby the minority.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 08:36 PM) If Florida is monitoring Anderson, that's a good indication as any he shouldn't be traded. I notice how the article mentions Chris Young as well..... Florida is smart enough to realize that the White Sox might sell Anderson low right now while he's still young and has a ton of room for improvement. I just keep hoping the White Sox aren't dumb enough to do so.
-
QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 08:05 PM) FWIW, Florida would be very interested in Anderson. Another Florida paper mentioned it. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/basebal...-sports-marlins Why? Because Florida's not stupid, that's why.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 05:15 PM) Scott Podsednik has had 1 good half of baseball in 2 seasons with the Sox. Time for a change. The one thing I will say for Pods is this: He did look hurt all last season. He missed most of spring training and never seemed to get his legs under him after the surgery post-05. I can't rule out the possibility that he'll come back in 07 after a full offseason with his legs back under him and able to put up a full season of pre-injury type numbers. I just don't think the odds are particularly high. The odds of Anderson giving us a solid year are much higher, for example.

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 03:17 PM) In my opinion, I'm not a fan of Hoyer or Murtha. Frankly, I think that they are part of the problem in D.C. generally, and I hope for some sort of conversion over to more responsibility with what they do as Majority Leader fiscally, but I'm not holding my breath. Exactly my point in saying I don't like either of them. Murtha's one of the classic pork-guys, who brings lots of dollars to his district, and who has casually benefited from a few of those deals. Hoyer's one of the Republican-lite lobbyist friends, who's big in with things like banking, etc. He was really big in helping get the bankruptcy bill/credit card company bailout bill passed a year ago.

By the way, after some thought while at the gym, I'd like to add that I really don't like either of them for this position.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 02:43 PM) Rosenthal is a guy I have always trusted. That could be a bad thing, but I have always liked him. It will be interesting to see if Williams does in fact make a move quickly. I was sort of under the impression that you should wait to see where the dust settles when the bidding is over for Maz/Zito/Schmidt, and try to get alot out of the losers of those deals, but Williams has not been one to wait around. I have 100% faith in Kenny, and now expect a deal to get done shortly... It may very well be up to other teams to determine which is the best course. Some team may go all out and offer up prospects/great talent at the start because they'll worry about another team landing Garcia, while other teams may wait until the other 2 big names have been taken off the market just to see if they have a chance. KW has to set a price and wait for it. If no one meets it, then drop the price a little late in the Winter. If someone meets it early, be aggressive and take it, because the offer could disappear. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 02:39 PM) For some reason I still don't think Jose Contreras has a no trade this year, but I know Gene has posted otherwise (and usually he's right 99.9% of the time on stuff like that). QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 02:24 PM) The post was about what to do with Neal Cotts. Maybe you got the wrong thread Well said. Thornton could be a one yr wonder, and then the sox would be back to square one with no reliable LHP for the pen. Though I do want to correct a small part of your post Neal was good for the first half last yr. So he's had 1 1/2 good seasons not just one. He had a 2.95 ERA at the break last yr, which I linked in my 1st post. Few teams will overpay for Neal with his horrible 2nd half of 06 and only 1 consistent season. Most teams will try and low ball KW. He shouldn't and probably won't bite. First of all, I seriously disagree on the idea that a guy whipping it up there at 98 from the left hand side will regress next year. I just don't see Thornton doing that at all. Secondly, look what the Red Sox gave up for Javy Lopez. No, not the catcher. People will give up a ton for lefty relief pitching, even if it is off a down year.
-
QUOTE(redandwhite @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 02:15 PM) As for JD Drew. I find it extremely hard to believe that the Red Sox would be so cautious to give Johnny Damon 4 years and 40 million yet are going to give Drew well over the 3 years and 33 million dollars he left on the table. It just doesn't make any sense. How much stock does Theo put in Depodesta's computer?

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 01:27 PM) What the Dems want (at least the hard-left) is Murtha. What should happen is Hoyer, for many reasons. Murtha's congressional vote scorecards from interest groups in the last few years as they've been issued.
-
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 01:07 PM) It's the smart move (Hoyer), but Nancy is showing her true colors, already. Murtha is actually quite a bit more Conservative than Hoyer on most issues, aside from the Iraq war. This is almost certainly much more a result of the fact that Hoyer and Pelosi were quite bitter rivals, with Pelosi winning, during the vote for the Democratic Whip position in 2001, which after Gephardt lost again put Pelosi on the pathway to the speakership. They've been rivals for quite a few positions while in the minority as well, which has only deepened the divide between them. Hoyer's opponent would probably have to be Zell Miller before Pelosi would support Hoyer.
