  1. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 12:03 PM) The only way the deal would have made sense is if the Tigers also got Troy Glaus in the trade. They still need a third baseman if they plan on trading I-Rod and moving Inge back to catcher. Granderson and Zumaya would have been too much to give up for Vazquez unless the Diamondbacks were picking up some of his contract. Right now, it looks like there's still a decent shot Glaus will be batting 4th in Boston next year.
  2. QUOTE(SoCalSouthSider59 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 11:54 AM) Good point, but then they should know how tough it is to fight a war with one hand tied behind their backs, and should be calling for total unrestricted warfare, and end this f***ing thing once and for all, instead of trying to demoralize our troops by saying that we can't win it. Remember that b**** Hanoi Jane? We can win it, and should have already won it....... Total Unrestricted warfare? What in the world does that even mean in a counter-insurgency operation? Kill em all and let God sort em out? When you haven't a clue who is an insurgent and who isn't, it's pretty darn hard to wage "Total unrestricted warfare". Hell, the warfare has been so unrestricted anyway that the military has been able to use quasi-chemical weapons out there (WP - call it what you want), but that really hasn't made the situation better.
  3. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 11:43 AM) OMG what next? Will Dick Cheney say he thinks we will win in Iraq?
  4. QUOTE(SoCalSouthSider59 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 11:35 AM) Another blowhard bleeding heart liberal asshole, i wonder if he fought in 'Nam? Probably not. :finger you Dean......... Because such a high percentage of our current administration also fought in Nam.
  5. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 11:31 AM) Thats about right. Howard Dean is a piece of s***. And seemingly, 72% of those responding to that CNN poll are also.
  6. QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 11:22 AM) IF Mueller is gonna play full time in LA, then the Dodgers have to do something with Cesar Izturis...I say we take him off their hands!!! (Remember...LA just got Furcal.) Izturis @ 2nd base. Kent @ 1b. Izturis is currently on the DL...back sometime early-mid next season.
  7. QUOTE(mreye @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 11:26 AM) Damn those Americans! They'd never have won the revolutionary war or the Civil War!
  8. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 10:09 AM) I would imagine most trades involving Wood would require the Cubs eating some of his contract. I don't think he's much of a 'hot' commodity these days. I would agree...but Abreu is not exactly "Cheap" either...and despite his first half last year, I'm not sure he's ever really put up the numbers to justify his contract...yeah he had a high OPS some years, but on average since 2001 it seems he comes out to around .900, and he's only hit 30 home runs 2 times in his career.
  9. If the Cubs could convince the Phils to take KWood's contract as a salary dump, then that might be a good idea for them...although I don't know how well trading Wood and Prior would go over with the city.
  10. QUOTE(Brian @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 09:43 AM) Simply put, what did Burnett ever do to warrant 11 million a year? I couldn't pay that much for potential. If he pans out, the 3-some of Halladay, Burnett, Chacin could be tough for the Sawx and Yanks. I don't know if Burnett ever did anything to specficially warrant $11 million a year...but there are 2 points here, 1. Burnett is likely one of the top 2-3 starting pitchers on the FA market this year, and 2. The Blue Jays promised last offseason that they would spend $200 million on players over the next 3 seasons. They told this to their fans. They spent something like $50 million last year...which means that they have to find someone to pay if they want to keep that promise.
  11. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 09:36 AM) McCarthy and the AA team for Willis and Cabrera. I am not joking Can we keep 1 or 2 guys and give them Crede instead? If so, I'm game.
  12. QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 09:21 AM) Nintendo may have a good grip on the handheld market since they were the first to do it but they have always been behind Sony and Microsoft as far as consoles go. I think that the "Always" is a bit too strong of a word there. The Still-working Super Nintendo I have in my living room would be my evidence. Sony and Microsoft have passed Nintendo in recent years.
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 09:14 AM) Sean Burroughs is another likely option. What's his contract like?
  14. QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 09:03 AM) You guys are absolutely correct, Graffanino would be a good fallback option. But at this stage of his career he's better suited to 2B, especially after his shoulder injury. 2B is where he'd like to land a starting job, but yes, he is definitely an option for the White Sox and as mentioned in this thread, the Sox could do worse. Pablo Ozuna can also play some 3b. If Crede were to truly go down @ 3rd, that would leave us with: Willie Harris, who can play some OF and 2b, some backup outfielder who I keep hoping will be Borchard instead of Timo, and Graffanino, who could work as a backup infielder as well. Graffy could potentially be our 3rd backup @ 3rd (if that makes sense), such that he only really was needed there if bad things happened to 2 people.
  15. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 09:06 AM) If you guys want some humor, check out Steve Phillips' Top 50 free agents predictions on ESPN.com. Just further confirms that: A.) the prediction things are useless, B.) that Steve Phillips knows no more than you and I, and C.) that Steve Phillips may know less than you and I. Some of us can't see Insider things...you bastard!
  16. Is it possible that Nintendo may figure that Sony and MS are overbuilding their system to the point that enough people won't be able to afford the thing, and they've decided that if they produce a system that's an upgrade over the current X-Box but for a lower price than the 360 or the PS3 that they'll be able to find a new niche?
  17. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 08:54 AM) Thats not 2 bad of a contract considering the type of stuff Burnett has even if I dont think much of him. Much better than the BJ Ryan contract. Personally, I think it may very well wind up being worse than the Ryan deal. Ryan...at least there's not as much concern with either injury or attitude as there is with Burnett. You think he'll suddenly stop being a wounded malcontent now that he has cash? I don't. Ryan currently looks horrifically overpaid, but in a few years, contracts may catch up with him. If he stays healthy, his contract may look a lot better than Burnett's does in a few years when Toronto's trying to get Philly, NY, or Boston to take him off thier hands.
  18. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 08:51 AM) Arizona GM Josh Byrnes says the Indians have been persistent in their pursuit of Javier Vazquez. The Indians, though, reportedly won't give up Coco Crisp, the player the Diamondbacks are asking for in return. The Cardinals could join the Indians, Mets and other teams in pursuit of Vazquez now that they've missed out on A.J. Burnett. You know, I'm gonna go out on a bit of a limb here and say that out of that list, I'd bet he'd wind up in St. Louis. They need another pitcher, they haven't traded away that much in terms of prospects this year, they have a history of being willing to trade top talent for pitching (See the Mulder deal), they're moving into a new ballpark ($$$!), and they're still this close to winning.
  19. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 08:35 AM) Whenever he has his next major surgery... Or winds up shoved off of his team by the manager.
  20. I really think that in a few years, or maybe even this year, Toronto is going to wind up regretting this move.
  21. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 07:14 PM) Ya..well I have finals next week. By making this site, I credit you with the down fall of me, academically. This week. Last finals I'll ever have, btw.
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 06:25 PM) You're nuts if you think that Tampa won't require the trade partner to include a big time pitcher/pitching prospect in the deal. And the rest of the league is nuts if they think BMac is moving (I'd still deal him for Pujols though!)
  23. Just out of curiosity...has there been a trade rumor that the Sox haven't been connected to? I'm sure our name has come up for Manny in some way.
  24. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 05:55 PM) Oh ya, cause Clemens wasn't pitching in a total hitters park? What Clemens did was downright amazing last year. The guy pitched his ass off, there is nothing you can do but tip your cap. Why not give the man the credit he's deserved. I laugh at how you guys think guys like Clemens would have been mediocre if he were in the AL last year. Let me guess, so would Chris Carpenter. Hell, I didn't see Curt Schilling's ERA skyrocket when he went from the NL to AL (from the Dbacks to the RedSox) and not only did he go to the AL, but he went to pitch in Boston (a hitters park). There is at least some fairly good evidence that on average, ERA's of starting pitchers go up by almost a run per game going from the NL to the AL. Naturally there's variance from pitcher to pitcher, but I think the data in 2004 is fairly clear.
