  1. Here's something I didn't expect...Edgar Renteria, the guy the BoSox paid $40 million because of his defense with the cards last year, is leading all major league players in errors this year. He also has the 2nd worst fielding percentage as an SS in the majors too, so it's not just because he's gotten a lot of attempts. Man, that strikes me as a huge defensive dropoff.
  2. QUOTE(Kogs35 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 02:33 PM) the sox-paris angels of anaheim game on sept 10th is on now fox. Sweet Jesus I'll be able to watch and Early Sox game on a Saturday!!!!!
  3. QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 03:13 PM) To those who just want to make the playoffs first: Assume the time comes when we are mathematically assured of the postseason. If we are still sputtering on offense and fighting to win half our games, will you have any concern over how we have played since the break, and will you care how the remainder of the regular season goes? SFF We only need to go 11-8 in the playoffs.
  4. QUOTE(Sonik22 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 02:40 PM) Iknow that if the candy tree was managing it wouldn't start timo either. He's right to caution you. Timo feeds on children.
  5. Some part of me also doesn't really care whether or not we get home field...simply because we've been the best road team in the big leagues this year.
  6. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 02:07 PM) Plus in the playoffs our pitching staff pitched relatively well. It was our offense that decided to disappear. The birth of Corpseball was in the 2000 ALDS. Yes, but also in 2000 it was our offense that got us to the playoffs. It will not be our offense that gets us there this year.
  7. Well, at least we get to see Anderson take some swings.
  8. QUOTE(SnB @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 12:55 PM) i swear to god if timo is starting.......... He will be. He hits Radke fairly well, and Dye has done horrible against Radke. I bet Timo plays in RF tonight.
  9. The White Sox are set up to win 2/3 this series with Garcia and Buehrle pitching today and tomorrow.
  10. QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 12:03 PM) Because there is no game thread no one has made it. Done.
  11. Well...no one else has made one yet, so here we go with my first game thread since joining this site. Freddy...make it a good one!
  12. As a quick reminder...a couple weeks ago, right after one of the bombings/attempted bombings in the London Underground, an innocent man with no connection to terrorism (the guy was from Brazil) was shot and killed by London police in the Subway system. After the guy was shot, a bunch of stories came out saying "The man was running from police, he was wearing a heavy jacket, etc." It seems that those stories are completely falling apart thanks to some of the video cameras in London. Perhaps most importantly...he wasn't wearing a heavy coat, and he didn't jump any turnstiles. Via the Guardian.
  13. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 11:19 AM) Fat Bottom Girl? Only if David Wells has just given up 12 runs.
  14. Right now, Ozzie Guillen is the leader of this team, he's the captain, and there's really no reason for another one. Ozzie's still young and is still so close to his players that the players really don't strike me as having any need of a captian. In NY or Boston, you have Torre and Francona as managers. Yeah, I'm sure people like them, but you can't tell me that Torre has the same sort of relationship with his players that Ozzie has with his. That's why they have a captain...it's a guy on the team to look up to and lead, and occasionally deal with the coaching staff if needbe. The Sox don't strike me as having any special need for that.
  15. As a White Sox fan for a little over 15 years now...I see no option other than pessimism. I will stop being pessimistic if I'm jumping up and down pumping my fist in October with a particular Queen song (you know which one) playing loudly in the background. Until then, I will continue to be pessimistic and panic at every single sign of something that goes wrong...I will also express random hopes that somehow people (Crede) will turn it around.
  16. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 11:06 AM) See, I totally agree with this. Remember how he hit with power to ALL fields? I just think this could be huge. With Pods out, I'd like to see Tad leading off and Uribe hitting in the 2 hole, like he did last year. I've got a good feeling we'll see that tonight.
  17. The thing that really has given me hope is those 9-10 pitch at bats he's been getting all of a sudden. Somehow he's no longer swinging and missing at 3/4 of the pitches thrown to him. That alone is an encouraging sign. As strong as he is, and as hard as he swings, if he puts the bat on the ball and keeps it fair, it will just fly.
  18. QUOTE(The Critic @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 10:49 AM) Yoko + anything = crap. She ruined the Plastic Ono Band.
  19. Why is it that I think Griffey would stay healthy better than Sweeney? Take Griffey out of the field and I bet he doesn't get hurt more than 1 time before his contract ends.
  20. Anderson shouldn't and won't be leading off...I just don't like a guy leading off a game in his first career bat in the big leagues. He should be in LF and bat somewhere before Crede but after Dye. I think Iguchi leads off today. Go get em' Freddy...we needs ya.
  21. Neyer still amazes me. He picked the Sox to win the AL Central at the beginning of the year. The Sox got off to the best April in baseball, and suddenly he turned against them and started saying how he didn't think they'd win the division. (Somehow, the best record in baseball turned him off). Then in July, he started saying we'd win the division by default because no one was even close. Now he's saying we're W.S. contenders again. I'm just lost on this guy.
  22. I'm holding out hope that Uribe's finally coming around... In the last week he's just been doing exactly what he needs to do at the plate...working pitchers deeper into counts and fouling off balls he can't get the bat on. He's had at least 3 at bats that have gone 9 pitches or more. I don't know if he's had that many all season.
  23. QUOTE(southsider17 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 09:03 AM) He's lost to Santana already this year. Let's hope he evens it out. He lost that game because he made 1 bad pitch. To Torii Hunter. Mark had an amazing June and a bad July. He's still been above-average in August. Hopefully he got whatever bad game he had left out of his system in Boston.
