Are we really, truly, sure that pedophilia counts as an anomaly any more? We've literally got the president in defending a guy who covered that up.

Race for the worst 2018 record (Top 5 pick) again

What year did you count Robert's money as part of the payroll? -
Also, if we're specifically talking about Theo, while we're at it we want to avoid any "Edwin Jackson" moves.

At basically every position, the White Sox either already have someone who needed playing time to see if they were going to be anything useful, or will soon need playing time. Injuries have hit a few of those spots but hopefully you'll grant that you can't predict which position they will have them at. DH: Davidson/Delmonico 3b: Sanchez, Saladino (already traded) SS: Anderson 2b: Moncada 1b: Abreu CF: Tilson/Cordell/Engel/Leury RF: Avisail Garcia LF: Jiminez, Delmonico SP: Giolito, Lopez, Fulmer, Kopech, Rodon, Shields already under contract. They didn't really have anyone who was worth the time at Catcher and I even thought they'd be stupid enough to call Collins up from single-A to fill the role, but then they signed Castillo. Unfortunately there was a steroid thing there, but they did that at catcher. In the bullpen they had room to acquire flippable guys. Hey look Soria! With Rodon out they had room to acquire a flippable guy in the rotation too. Hey look, Miguel Gonzalez and Hector Santiago! At the positions where they had room for those guys, where they had ample playing time, they did acquire guys who could be flipped. Elsewhere though, they had to give guys playing time to see if they could turn into anything or filter themselves out. Some of those guys (Cordell, Engel, Delmonico) are doing exactly that and filtering themselves out, where I'm more than happy to block them next year.

If the White Sox are not involved in this year's FA market, heavily, then the people who have said that the ownership group are way too cheap...will finally be right. Last year we could make the excuse, correctly, that they still had bad contracts on the books (Cabreroid, Frazier, Robertson, Shields). This year, some of the money they saved went to Robert's huge bonus, and they've still got a payroll of $86 million. They've only got $50 million committed next year counting Abreu and Garcia, and there's no $50 million international signee excuse.

Unless the White Sox have decided they really, really like those guys, yes, that's scraps to me, and I would not trade Sanchez for a couple back end of the top 30 guys in a system like where theirs is right now. That doesn't really make us likely to be better long term.
-
After what we saw last offseason, keeping Avisail Garcia long term may not be nearly as expensive as once feared, which means there's no benefit to the White Sox to even talk about such things right now. He could wind up getting Moustakas money, which is a pittance.

I am told the number of losses due to a lack of enough avocados for toast were nearly incalculable. It may have cost us the siege of Boca Raton. What is sad, of course, is that Greg will learn nothing from adopting this particular conspiracy theory and having dozens of people laugh at him for it. He'll buy into the next one as long as someone important is behind it. The Russians plan the next one? Greg's totally voting with it! As long as they understand that women are 3rd class citizens.

If you only get scraps for him, F*** it, we have him for 3 more seasons, don't trade him until someone gives us something of use for him.

Irrational fondness of a player who completely sucks

Boone wasn't any good that year, had an ERA of nearly 5, but that was because he was called up straight from A-ball after a good spring and the team was desperate for a second lefty. In the end he's going to earn nearly $35 million as a big league lefty. -

Back in 2007 we had a thread about how hard throwing our bullpen could be and that it could be historically good. That season...imploded. -

Mike MacDougal and David Aardsma from the right side. Aardsma went on to some success as a closer for the Mariners, MacDougal had some success in the past but flopped with us. Matt Thornton from the left. He was pretty good. -
Erceg has whopping .663 OPS at AA this year as a 23 year old. Ortiz hasn't been great but he's a year younger at the same level, and at least not that disappointing.

Lol that's the exact same drug that Palmeiro said he got from senior Tejada as a "B-12 shot" -
Would have to be something like Luis Ortiz as the key piece.

I'd be willing to move Yolmer as well, but with him having 3.5 years of control left, 3.5 years of affordable control for a decent infielder is going to be a pricey deal. If a team isn't willing to put a top 100 prospect on the table for that amount of control, then they're not going to get the guy, and it's hard to justify sending out a top 100 prospect for a decent infielder just because theyre affordable.
-
They also can be just in case some player surprises, or changes his mind when faced with a $500k check for the first time...or they can also be strategic, to get to know a kid before he goes to college that you might draft later, or even to block another team from drafting the guy when they might actually be able to sign them.

Yes they have him under control for next year if they want him, but as noted in the trade deadline thread - right now teams that are buying have realized that there are so many rebuilding teams that they have no reason to pay high prices on the trade market either. If they need a bat, bats are available for low costs. -

With what guys got on the free agent market this offseason, I don't see any reason why we should rush into extending a guy like that. He might be available on the same kind of deal Moustakas got this year.
