These New England accents are annoying. 1-2-3 go the Red Sox. 2 K's for BC.

WTF was Damon looking for?

Question... How do you have the lineups before the game goes on the air? Is there a pre-game on FSN? Do you hear it on the radio? Thanks! actually if you go to MLB.com's gamecast of our particular game they usually have it posted about half an hour or so before the game. But FSN usually has them in the pregame, as does AM1000 pregame. Aren't the official, final lineups presented to the home plate umpire just before the first pitch? Until then, changes can be made, correct? Anyway, I'm upset now, because I get the Boston feed for today's game. I have the MLB Extra Innings package, and no Hawk/DJ. I suppose it's better than nothing, though.

John Burkett vs. Bartolo Colon. Sox looking to inch closer to that .500 mark, and Boston trying catch the Yankees in the AL East.

Hmmmm. Interesting. Like Bmr said, whacking it is completely natural, and there's nothing "sinful" about it. That said, I stopped counting years ago, but I'd say I do it 4-5 times a week. It's not a daily thing -- somewhat semi-daily I suppose you could dub it. And even if it was a sin, would anyone really stop doing it?

Well this will always be a problem as long as fan vote is the way AS teams are composed. People that deserve to be there will be watching on TV, and people who don't deserve to be there will be on the field. They should come up with a mathematical program that measures a player's productivity, and the top producers at the various positions are automatically chosen. That's the only way to make sure the most DESERVING players (and not the fan favorites) will be there. But since the AS game is "for the fans", that will never happen.

Save it. I love Frank Thomas too, and there's nothing gay about it. I merely love his game, and as a person he seems to be one of the more mature people in the league. Grow up.

Now that's just unfair. I'd say the cleverly hidden attacks are at least worthy of a 4th grade classification. But for the most part you're right -- personal attacks have no place on a forum where we're all supposed to be friends. We are, afterall, Sox fans. Are we not?

I'd say that he is a setup man there and Cliff Politte remains closer. The Blue Jays' bullpen is simply atrocious. Outside of Alquilino Lopez, their best ERA guy with an ERA of 3.16, take a look at some of these stats... Kelvim Escobar 4.05 Trever Miller 5.09 Tanyon Sturtze 5.81 Pete Walker 5.85 Cliff Politte 5.90 Jeff Tam 6.21 :puke

I'll revert back to my original theory that no team is going to do everything right in every situation. There's going to be f***ups due to White Sox human error, or the opponents' skill level, and sometimes simply nothing can be done about it. That stuff just happens. I agree with your assessment of the CLEV, SF, AZ. Cleveland is a team of nobodys, AZ has nothing except for RJ and CS (neither of whom we faced), and we simply blew the Colon game against SF. But, to say that 2 out of 3 vs. ANY team is a disappointment isn't fair IMO. I, for one, was VERY happy with taking 2 out of 3 in LA. The Dodgers have a very good rotation, and I thought we played very well (I went to all 3 games, so don't come back with your "I taped them" s***). Did I not concede that we'd meet in the middle and call it 10 games? Last time I checked, 10 WAS double digits. Too bad this isn't 2000. Face it -- this is a different team than 3 years ago. We don't have a 5 run a game offense, and we also don't have 5 starters having career years. We also don't have several players having career years at the plate. It's going to be harder this year, but I think that we have the talent that if we are able to get into the post-season like we did in '00, the results will be better.

Bonds I can live with. He's maybe the best player ever (and save your "no he's not" remarks, smartasses). But you're right, that Perez guy shouldn't have lasted 5 innings, let alone got the win.

I was just thinking... Jose Mesa made all those psychotic comments about how he'd "kill" Omar Vizquel if he ever faced him. What happens if a ball "slips" and he does hit Omar in the head, and Omar were to go into a coma and die? Would Mesa face murder/manslaughter charges? I would have to think he would. He had motive (it was a silly motive, but motive none-the-less), opportunity, and he could try the "it slipped" alibi, but I don't think it would fly. It would be interesting to see how it was handled.

Joe's too popular. Steinbrenner is stuck with him. If Steinbrenner reads too many comments like that, he'll fire him just to prove a point.
-
After the first inning, it was 1-1. Now, in the 7th, it's 11-1 Tampa Bay. Maybe when the Stein fires Torre, the Sox can sign him.

Let's be realistic -- NO team is going to get the runners in from 3rd with less than 2 outs EVERY time. But, the Sox have failed to do it an inordinate number of times. Maybe my 4-5 games guesstimate was off, but I don't think it's as high as 15. Let's meet in the middle and call it 10. But even if it WAS 'just' 5, it would make a HUGE difference in the standings, and we'd be right there. And with guys like MB, PK, and JC underachieving like they are, it's amazing to think we could EASILY be in 1st place right now. The AL Central...
-
90% of it is a lack of hitting. How many times this season have we had runners on 1st and 3rd, 1 out; 2nd and 3rd, no outs; 1st and 2nd, no outs; bases loaded, 1 out; etc, etc, etc, and either grounded into a DP, and then eventually get no runs? I'd say at least 20 times, and that's cost us many runs and probably 4-5 games at least.

At the same time, it depends on the severity of the retaliation. If a guy throws at someone's head "in retaliation", that's on the pitcher, not the team. But in the case of the Colon/Hairston incident, I agree with you -- it was more of a team retaliation than a personal thing. I can't think of anything more personal in baseball than a pitcher throwing at someone's head.

What are you talking about man? Do you not remember the incident? A guy took Chad's hat, probably yelled some drunken obscenties in his face, and Chad choked him. Is that allowable in a civil society? To start choking a guy because he takes your hat and says some words to you? If you think that is acceptable and commendable.... And you're right, the justice system is perfect, so let's blindly accept any and all court decisions that are made I remember the incident very well. I also know who is clueless about what statute law and case law in civil cases. It is not what you personally think because you saw something on tv news once. It is what is presented to the court in light of all of the rules of evidence and who is liable for what and what the law defines. CW.. he doesn't even have the story straight so why do you bother to debate with him? Steff, since you seem to know everything, why not share the facts of the incident from the outset rather than have myself and cw waste time by discussing it? Would have saved me a few minutes and I could have gotten around to doing something important (LOL).

Oh I agree, it's certainly different. It's normally because he shows up the umpire. Managers know better than to do that. Well, I consider it a common sense view more than a b&w view. You do the crime, you do the time, right? Well how is it REALLY punishment if you're getting paid in the meantime? Sure, for some players it would really affect them just to not be allowed to play. But for some of the more "Eh, I don't care" players, they aren't going to care about anything but their paycheck. If you start taking that away from them, perhaps some of the ignorant behavior would subside. I don't know if any of you remember Rob Dibble, but he did some HORRIBLY uncalled for things in his day. One time a guy hit a comebacker to him, and while the guy was running to 1st, Dibble THREW the ball at the guy! And another time he got into a clubhouse fight with Sweet Lou. I don't think someone should be paid at all after doing things like that.

I doubt it, Garland has done very well against Boston. Remember last year and his spectacular 8 inning shut out? Garland has had some great quality starts and I've been very pleased of how he's performed as of late. He has not gotten ANY run support, much like Mark Buehrle. CWSOX45 Very good? He's 2-2 with a career 5.14 ERA against Boston in his career. If not for that gem he had last year, it would look a lot worse then that. And that was in a less important situation anyways. You put him in the situation Buehrle was in, and I bet he would blow up. Well, I don't remember FOR SURE, but didn't the 2-0 shutout last season come against Derek Lowe IN BOSTON? I know for sure it was in Boston, and I'm pretty sure it was Derek Lowe he faced. I remember that game very well. He had given up like 1 hit, then the first 2 guys in the 9th got hits, and they brought in Keith to face I think Nomar, Manny, and Daubach or something, and Keith got em in order to preserve the shutout gem. So while it wasn't a playoff game or a pennant chase game, I'd say Garland did just fine under the circumstances. Also, the game was on ESPN or ESPN2, don't remember which. I doubt they brought in Foulke, probably Marte or Osuna. It was Foulke. I'm starting to think it wasn't last year, though. It may have been 2001. I'm going to check.

I disagree. If you get suspended for ANY reason, you should not be paid IMO. That's why you have an appeal process -- to see if the evidence will clear you of any wrong-doing. Once the evidence does not clear you, you should not only be suspended, but also have any and all pay for that suspension taken away and contributed to some charity or something.
