QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 10:10 AM) I pray this will actually do something: http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines We should have just done that now. Only place Vazquez's trade value is going is down. No reason to wait and pee away this season. I know...I know.

And that's a White Sox loser
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 09:51 AM) First of all they are not the worst team in baseball. Secondly they have been one of the hottest offensive team in baseball this month. its not their offense that is terrible, its their pitching. And we couldnt hit it last night. Then who's the worst? QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 09:57 AM) This next series will be interesting (as will the ones after it). We needed sweeps of the O's and Royals and couldn't do it, we're still playing pretty poorly with fundemental breakdowns each game, and our pitching still looks bad. Not improving this club over the deadline was beyond ridiculous. How could we have improved in the least?

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 09:44 AM) Maybe next start Garcia will start pitching up to his potential. Or perhaps the one after that. I know it's coming, we're only in August. As soon as Coop talks with him, we'll be fine.

Joe Crede
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 09:57 PM) Well then, why single out Boras clients? It's baseball's reserve clause, arbitration process, and GM's that hand out foolish contracts that you have a problem with. Offhand, I'm having trouble coming up with many foolish contracts handed out before a player reaches free-agency, specifically 2 years before a player reaches FA. Daren Driefort is the worst case that I can come up with off the top of my head, and he was in the same boat as Garland, a year from FA. There's relatively little risk in signing Crede to a 3-year deal with a 4th year option following this season. The first two seasons, you give him at or below what he would get at arbitration, and then fair market value for his 2 years following that. People around here really don't seem to understand that defense is worth $$$. And that $5M for a slick fielding SS with pop is not overpaying, it's below market value. Well, if you're saying I'm one of the people who don't value Uribe's defense, then you're wrong. And I guess we just disagree about Boras clients, fluke years, etc.

Uribe Benched for "Lack of Intensity"?
I really question Uribe's intelligence after last night's game. Think about this. You are playing your first game since being benched for lack of intensity and focus on defense. And in this first game, you take a one-handed swipe at a foul pop-up, and you drop it. If he didn't know to use two hands THE FIRST DAY BACK FROM BEING BENCHED, then he's an idiot. And Uribe is one of my favorite Sox players.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 09:24 AM) He just needs to go after this season. I'd take some prospects for him and free up some money for free agency/re-signing Crede. I'd take anything, as long as it gets rid of him and puts McCarthy into the rotation. If someone would take him and his money (this goes for Vazquez, too), I'd take the most hopeless prospect they have in return.

And that's a White Sox loser
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 01:05 AM) This is why were 8 1/2 games behind Detroit. How many times have we taken the first two games of a series only to lay an egg in the finale? I'm thinking atleast 8 or 9 times. Detroit usually sweeps a team after winning the first two. Our bullpen has fallen apart after pitching so well for a while. We just can't seem to get the starters and 'pen goin' at the same time. We've been told repeatedly that we can't complain about winning a series...even when we can't sweep a team that is quite possibly the worst in baseball in years.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 08:27 AM) Don't let Milkman see this post. Too late. So, now Freddy has shown up his teammates three times on the field this year (that we know of) and now this? It must be fudging sweet to be the manager's nephew. You get to suck and blame it on everyone else. I guess we can't blame Freddy for these comments, as he probably just got finished smoking a doob and eating 6 bags of Doritos. We all know it's hard to bite your tongue under those circumstances.

QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 09:33 PM) Take away the green and thats a very true statement. Well, we're supposed to be one of the best teams in baseball. If we want to go to the postseason, then we'll have to beat up on the bad teams. This will be, what, our 5th loss to KC this year? We're trying to keep up with the likes of the Yankees and Red Sox. This spiffty play against bad teams (especially when we lose to the good teams) won't work.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 09:32 PM) And the Red Sox and Yankees keep winning. Why can't they play each other 15 times the rest of the year? That Abreu move doesn't scare me in the least. 6th best OBP in baseball? That's weak and will never help them.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 09:30 PM) Those 2 runs we gave up in the 7th really hurt us. But Garcia had a chance for the win, and that's all that really matters, no?

Joe Crede couldn't hold Ortiz's jock when it comes to clutchness. He's not even close.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 09:20 PM) And you know all we'll hear about after the game is Uribe dropping the foul ball. In reality, Pods dropping that liner was 10 times more important in this game. That's true. Pods will get a free pass again for unknown reasons.

Sox @ KC - 8/2 Game Thread
How many other managers in baseball do you think would have replaced Pods with Mackowiak by now?
-

I'm really angry that Pods gets chance after chance after chance.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 09:14 PM) He got a lot of credit when they won. He should get some blame when they lose. Yeah. I mean, he is the reason we won the WS. He should be the reason we're losing now, right?

Ozzie would've let Hudson give up two more singles before going to the pen.

QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 09:10 PM) ozzie seems to be one of those managers where if things are going well he's a genious, and if the team starts to slip a little bit its all blamed on him Yeah, it's called "managing," and it's not a special situation for Ozzie. It's how every manager is seen.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 09:07 PM) Imo, this isn't on Garcia. He's kept them in the game and while he's sucked this inning, prior to this most of it was on the defense. Oh and giving up hits to Teahen is not something I can really gripe about considering the guy was the best offensive player in the month of july. Well, if we have to give guys credit for "only" pitching one bad inning and still losing, or winning games where they give up like 6 runs, I'll blame Garcia for giving up too many runs to win.

Must be good to be Ozzie's nephew and/or golf partner.

Two reasons we're currently losing tonight: -Freddy Garcia's subpar pitching -Pods' defense But hey, at least it's something new, and not the same thing that always beats us.

The Tigers have lost once to the Royals, and they've played them over 10 times, I believe.
