QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 22, 2012 -> 04:08 PM) It's the best show on television. It's tough to take you seriously because you say that about a new show every two weeks

Cool sketch of Comiskey from the 40's

What's it say for Comiskey's nickname? Something Roman. -
QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 21, 2012 -> 04:24 PM) Are you talking about Whitney? Because I have no clue what the ratings are. I watched the first 15 minutes of the pilot and turned it off. I didn't notice it but heard Conan O'Brien had a cameo on HIMYM last night. He was a customer in the background in the bar. Just saw a pic. No, Parks & Rec.

A few minutes ago, I saw but couldn't hear a TV. It was a press conference for the Mets with what looked to be their manager. I had no idea who it was, looked it up, and still have no idea. Never heard of Terry Collins.

QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 21, 2012 -> 02:39 PM) NBC, I hate you. Good news is that Community comes back March 15th. But the show that is going on a 5 week hiatus for them? Not the awful Whitney or Chelsea show, but the best comedy on TV. Parks & Rec. FU NBC I know a lot of people that watch it, and I was under the impression that it was doing very well in the ratings. Am I incorrect?

What are you giving up, if anything? I mostly just want an idea for what I should give up.

You people are way too f***ing picky. Throw it in the microwave no matter what kind it is.

Can someone link me to a stream of last night's Walking Dead? I can't get it on TVduck for some reason yet.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 19, 2012 -> 04:32 AM) Safe House...literally a very "safe," formulaic movie that felt like about 10 other similar spy/CIA genre flicks crossed with Bourne and Man On Fire with a dash of Ryan Reynolds' "blank charm" thrown in for good measure. It's one of those movies that's neither bad nor good, that gets a 2 1/2 or 2.75 star rating and I honestly couldn't say if seeing it in a theatre or waiting for the DVD/rental would be worth it or not. Maybe because I like Denzel Washington so much, and Reynolds is at worst tolerable, then I'd barely recommend it. Vera Farmiga was wasted and Brendan Gleeson needs a lot more roles like THE GUARD and IN BRUGES, or GANGS of NY. He's one of those guys like Brian Cox you can never quite trust whether he's bad or good in any movie. I can't think of a single movie where Gleeson is a bad guy, unless you count the first Harry Potter he was in. And that was someone impersonating his good character. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 19, 2012 -> 07:57 AM) Take Shelter...terrific...but at least Warhorse and Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close got nods from the Academy. One is about 9/11 and features Tom Hanks. The other is an inspirational Spielberg flick about an underdog animal that gives us all hope. That's all the reasoning you need.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 18, 2012 -> 12:51 PM) See, even if Fukudome has a solid season for him, he's not going to turn this team into a contender. You know what might? Viciedo developing into a legit middle of the order hitter, the kind who other teams will fear. But we keep seeing our manager hide the kids from people to get the backup at bats, and Morel in particular said that really screwed with him last year. If Viciedo doesn't hammer the ball, then Fukudome putting up a .355 Obp won't make this team competitive. Play the kid. When did he say that? I don't doubt that he did, but I don't recall it.

Jim Bowden gives Offseason grades
Milkman delivers replied to ChiliIrishHammock24's topic in Pale Hose Talk
We seem to be playing the "all of these 'experts' don't know anything about our situation" card a lot recently. But perhaps they are right. When everyone disagrees with you, it doesn't always make you a profound genius that nobody understands. More often, you're just plain wrong. -
QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Feb 18, 2012 -> 07:27 PM) I don't think I've ever once thought Into the Wild was chilling or depressing. Almost completely the opposite. Easily in my top 5 of all time. Really? And back to Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. I didn't find Rooney Mara attractive at all. That goth/emo look with tons of piercings simply does not do it for me. I had to look at Google pictures of her to see that she was actually an attractive woman.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 18, 2012 -> 10:18 AM) NO. Play the **** kid. Don't hide them, don't tell them they should be scared of the pitcher, don't tell them that they can't make it, don't tell them that they're not good enough. Sick to death of watching this team's manager convince every kid on the roster that they're not good enough and that there's nothing they can do because the guy behind him needs his at bats. What word could this possibly be that you preemptively bleeped it out? Damn? That's hardly worth censoring

OK, so Mr. 3000 is on TV right now (no, I'm not actually watching it). The plot is that a guy reaches hit #3000 and abruptly retires. An analyst finds out 9 years later that 3 of the hits didn't count for some reason, and he returns to get back to the magic number. He has the entire month of September to do it, and fails. Now I know it's a movie, and a poor one at that, but I find it very hard to believe a guy with enough talent to get 3000 hits in his career could return at the age of 47 and not get 3 hits in a month.

QUOTE (MAX @ Feb 17, 2012 -> 10:50 PM) Just out of curiosity I looked up some stats. From the 2000 census, which is likely very low, there are 388,987 people with the surname "Ramirez" in the US (1 on the 40) 775,072 people with the surname "Martinez" in the US (and two on the 40) 706,372 people with the surname "Hernandez" in the US (1 on the 40) Only one Martinez, the other is Marinez. QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Feb 17, 2012 -> 07:33 PM) Nice deal for Jordan Danks QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 18, 2012 -> 02:51 AM) Sweet! Good thing my name is Joe Fukudome. for both of these.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 18, 2012 -> 02:56 AM) Yeah, I agree. Even if they charged $5 for early entry to the park to watch BP, I definitely would. If they got just 5,000 fans to do this, that's an extra $25K per game. Multiply that out over 81 home games, and that's an extra $2M a year! Sometimes it's hard being a genius....... Why would you pay extra money to watch batting practice? The opportunity to catch a meaningless ball?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 18, 2012 -> 01:20 AM) The Grey was a nifty little flick. Definitely not a happy ending, feel good story in any way, shape or form. Ebert made an interesting comment, that he'd never once walked out of a theater when reviewing a film...but that he did for the 2nd movie in a row he was watching after The Grey. I don't think it was THAT chilling or depressing, any more than INTO THE WILD or similar "survival" movies. That one where the three kids were stranded on the ski lift with the wolves actually got to me more than The Grey. That said, Liam Neeson's having quite an impressive run now as an action star. Lots of actors of that same ilk putting out stuff recently, Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington fall into that same category where every project they're involved in makes $20-30 million the opening weekend. That's kind of clunky, as it could be read that he walked out of the two movies he viewed after he completed The Grey. But I assume you're saying that he walked out of The Grey. What is the other?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 17, 2012 -> 08:26 PM) Bad news for fans of the character, admirers of quality filmmaking, and anyone who forgot to bring some Tylenol to the screening. FEARnet Cage maintains his reign as Hollywood's Captain of Crazy with a performance that sometimes feels like an impression of Andy Samberg's impression of him. RedEye Quite why Brian Taylor and Mark Neveldine, the directors of the brilliant Crank, got involved is anyone's guess. Perhaps their tax bills were also due. 9 positive reviews / 47 negs (not too far behind THIS MEANS WAR w/ Reese Witherspoon) Actually, the first one was mildly entertaining, in a campy sort of way. 1/2 or even 1 full star just for the presence of the ever-beautiful Eva Mendes. What? QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 17, 2012 -> 09:35 PM) Girl With A Dragon Tattoo......best movie ive seen in a looong time. Made me want to read the books I don't get the love. I liked it, but it wasn't great.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 17, 2012 -> 11:56 AM) Why does it have to be Michael Bay? He wouldn't be directing, so I'm fine with it. Saw The Phantom Menace in 3D. I liked it more than I remembered.

It makes me sick that a person can donate that much money to a cause that's hardly a sure thing (that people have that money lying around). It makes me even sicker that it would give the guy absurd amounts of power if his nominee wins.
