  1. I'm sure there were players who didn't like Guillen last year too.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 02:29 PM) If Ozzie wanted a change made to the roster, KW would have found someone for him. On the bright side, we have less than a month with this current personnel. I know everyone thinks I get on Ozzie for every little thing. Personally, I don't believe I do. If I see a game last night where he puts the team in position to win, then that falls on the team and their execution. I actually thought he managed a great game last night, and he made the proper subs in the 8th inning and even tried a hit-and-run. The problem is, your idea of "putting the team in the best position to win" is usually flawed.
  3. The Sox have been playing with the equivalent of the a decent hitting pitcher in the lineup when Anderson plays on the road. See why he needs to be platooned.
  4. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 01:03 PM) I don't understand why Anderson has a Hall of Fame wing here at soxtalk. Probably because he does all of his hitting at the cell.
  5. QUOTE(beautox @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 12:59 PM) how is he supposed to drive in runs when there is no one on base, taz sucks, and ajp has gone in full pull mode since the ASB and can be seen in his stats. Sometimes you also have to .... GET HITS with men on base to drive in runs on the road. Anderson has been beyond terrible in every park other than the cell this year.
  6. QUOTE(beautox @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 12:52 PM) Who has he had infront of him for a good portion of the season? Taz. Anderson is clearly more comfortable hitting at the cell. His numbers at home with RISP are excellent .316/.378/.526. On the road he's dreadful with RISP .111/.233/.139. Anderson's numbers say he should be platooned home and away.
  7. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 12:38 PM) You people act as if he' s Cy f***ing Young or something. In his last 10 games, Anderson is 6-for-27 with 1 run batted in. Overall on the road this season, his line is an embarrassing .204/.283/.299. He has knocked in 7 runs in 167 road AB's.
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 11:37 AM) Great, so he'll lose 4 mph off of his fastball this offseason (FG) or forget to develop another pitch besides a fastball (NC). When Anderson wins the deciding game of the World Series for the Sox, he can hang out and party all he wants AFAIC. Consequences be damned!
  9. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 11:24 AM) You know that there's a big difference between being a starter and not having an offseason. Anderson wants to hang out and party instead of spending time developing his game? Look, the guy had only 936 minor league AB's. He should be craving all the AB's he can get and it's at least mildly disturbing to me that he isn't.
  10. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 11:03 AM) The comparison between Wee Willie and Anderson is a joke, right. Anderson is a number 1 draft pick and projects to be a starting CF, Willie Harris was a guy who had a ceiling of being a utility guy. Not everyone wants to give up their offseason and the only time they will see their family and friends and be able to let their body relax, and heal. In my opinion, Anderson needs more seasoning, and could use some time playing winter ball. I dont have a problem with him being told to go, I have a problem with our manager calling him out in the press on this. I understand the difference between Anderson and Harris, point is the organization doesn't take kindly to players that don't take their "suggestions". I have a REAL problem with Anderson not seeking out a place like winter ball to help his development. As far as letting his body relax, why does he need that? I read all the time on these boards that he should be playing every day.
  11. Why was Anderson lukewarm about playing winter ball? If you think that sits well with KW remember he released Harris because he wouldn't go there to play short last year. If Anderson didn't want to play winter ball after hitting the way he has this year, he needs an attitude adjustment. What Ozzie said is absolutely right. If he thinks he can keep his job hitting .227 in September next year, he's dead wrong.
  12. Ozzie's right. They need more from him offensively and why is Anderson lukewarm on the idea of playing winter ball?
  13. McCarthy is the best pitcher drafted and developed during KW's tenure as GM that's why he gets hyped. He's a solid prospect, if not a phenom.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 09:28 PM) Lopez is tough as hell on lefties. I thought we called up Stewart so we could have more flexibility late in the game? BTW, this isn't 20/20 hindsight. I was stating this BEFORE the AJP at-bat. Lopez hasn't been tough on lefties this year.
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 09:21 PM) You have a one run lead, a man on first, and a tough lefty facing a struggling hitter with plenty of options on the bench. Instead, Ozzie leaves AJP to hit into a DP. When you have Manny leading off the inning, that lack of proactivity is pathetic. In a game between two terrible managers, it ended up being that the team with the final AB won. You are king of the 20/20 hindsight brigade. Pierzynski's hitting .278 v. lefties.
  16. Guillen will get them to the post-season. QUOTE(ottawa_sox @ Sep 3, 2006 -> 08:07 PM) Why? I've been hoping for the resurgence to begin with each game. So far ...... nothing. When is Ozzie going to perform a Venezuelan/Vulcan mindmeld with his slumping veterans? The pitching staff could be mistaken for the Orioles, given their mediocrity, for crying out loud. Can't Ozzie do something for these guys? Of course it should be noted that the Tigers and the Twins are also limping down the stretch. Therefore Leyland and Gardenhire should also be raked over the coals and summarily fired when the season ends for their recent performances when all is at stake. And concerning what Francona deserves ........ well let's not even go there. Some of the top records in baseball be damned .......let's have ourselves a regular American major league manager Wickerman party. Toss in these 4 jokers and have some fun. Torre is lucky his team is hot at the right time. Last year .... well just plain unforgivable. And how about the Red Sox debacle from 2 years ago. Up 3-0 and then total collapse.... criminies. Whichever team hires the Great Tom Kelly in the next two weeks wins the World Series.
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 07:37 PM) I can't imagine how anyone can think Ozzie is doing a good job this season. That's my thoughts on him, end of story. He's in the Garcia mode where I have no clue how he gets guys out. Look at the starters' ERA. (Even) Tom Kelly couldn't win with this rotation.
  18. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 07:34 PM) Kelly had a lot to do with the Twins success after he left. They didn't like the fact that he made them take infield and run drills after games they lost and lost because of stupid plays. He taught them how to play the game the right way. Tom Kelly also found a cure for the common cold.
  19. QUOTE(shoota @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 07:22 PM) I've followed their organization and TK closely since 2001. They are a well-run organization that practices everything I listed. Sounds like you've STALKED Tom Kelly since 2001.
  20. QUOTE(shoota @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 07:18 PM) I was describing Tom Kelly, a man whose baseball managing abilities are far superior to Ozzie's. And for those who say Ozzie is a manager whose best assest is motivating his players, he's inferior to TK in that aspect too. TK gets his players to do the little things to win games because they know they will be replaced if they don't. There's no greater motivation than staying in the majors. You really like Tom Kelly.
  21. QUOTE(shoota @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 07:07 PM) Past success has no influence on present performance. The question isn't "who has a better resume," but "who's more likely to win now." The right answer is Tom Kelly. He would allow our 3-4-5 to rake and give our bottom of the order a pirana-like attack. He wouldn't have Mack in center, wouldn't put up with a struggling Pods, would make better decisions with the pitching staff, and have the Sox playing sound fundamental baseball. TK wouldn't publicly rip into a rookie pitcher for not doing Vazquez's dirty work, wouldn't have put Marte on the playoff roster over McCarthy, and had he managed this team, would have had us leading the Central by now. You're describing God, not Tom Kelly.
  22. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 07:03 PM) What was Ozzie's batting average in the WS? He went 4-for-4.
  23. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 06:59 PM) They had the highest payroll in the division. Did they have the highest payroll in baseball? Because they won the World Series!
  24. QUOTE(shoota @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 06:55 PM) In your opinion, is Tom Kelly or Ozzie Guillen the better manager? Guillen is better.
  25. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 06:52 PM) Have Ozzie manage a few rebuilding teams and see what his percentage is. He has only managed a team that was supposed to contend. Last year's team was predicted to be middle-of-the-pack. Nonetheless, two seasons managing, 1 World Series title isn't a bad rate of success for Guillen.
