  1. QUOTE(rangercal @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 10:41 PM) What ever it is. It is despite Ozzie . .568 and a World Series speaks for itself.
  2. What's Guillen's career winning percentage as manager?
  3. You have to look at the big picture. With 24 games in 24 days, it's going to be awfully easy to wear out a bullpen. Hopefully the Sox will come out of this stretch no worse than a game or two behind in the WC race, but have a rested pen. If they have a game or two lead after this stretch, but their pen is in tatters, they'll be toast down the stretch.
  4. They're on a pace for 2.8M+ right now, and it looks like 9 of the 11 games on the next home stand will be sell outs, the exceptions being the last 2 against KC. 3 million is within reach, they do have some work to do, however.
  5. Looks like the Sox have a real chance to reach 3 million in attendance this year. I was talking to a season ticket rep at the party last week and he said they've started selling SRO tix in order to help get to that mark. It's a remarkable turnaround for a franchise that most local media had written off as recently as 2004. I remember hearing George Ofman that year say they'd never draw 2 million again. I'm still waiting for the barrage of stories chronicling this attendance boom, ya know to offset all the stories over the last 10 years about how no one went to the park.
  6. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 02:53 PM) The problem is there are a ton of people who RSVP'd by the required date, and they never got the other tickets. I left a message on a voice mail, and thankfully did receive the tickets, but its a pretty screwy system. Why don't they have the reps do this stuff through e-mail? Or have a master email and then when people call and say they haven't received their tickets, they could easily look it up? I'm still trying to figure out what my rep does to earn his paycheck, and even worse, the stiff gets a WS ring. It makes me sick. I haven't received an email from him since February. Either they need to hire more reps, and in the grand scheme of things, they don't make a lot of money so it really won't hurt them, or get them, or at least mine, better trained. The fiasco with the WS and playoff tickets last year, and this snafu is only going to make it harder to renew bandwagon fans if the season falls apart at the seams. They had plenty of time for planning these parties, they really have no excuses. If you were someone who took advantage of the playoff ticketoffer and picked up season tickets last fall, you have had the fiasco of not being able to reach anybody with the White Sox concerning whether or not you successfully were able to land tickets last fall, you were stuffed into Sox fest with a shoehorn last January, maybe that wasn't the White Sox fault, but its still a blemish on the organization, and now the season ticketholder party you may or may not really be invited. You may drive down to USCF and get sent home. Something needs to be done about it. Being swamped is not an excuse. Everybody's different I guess, but I haven't received an email from my rep in 5 years and couldn't care less. Actually, to be honest, I wouldn't know who he/she was if they punched me in the face. BTW, I e-mailed my RSVP and had no problems.
  7. The invite clearly stated that you had to RSVP by a certain date. With as many season ticketholders as they have now, it's regrettable, but understandable that errors occurred with the planning of this. When I pay for my season tickets what I expect is a well run baseball operation. Everything else is gravy.
  8. How about Ichiro as a longshot possibility for center? He's in the last year of his contract I believe and while he might not be able to play a stellar CF, I'd bet he'd be at least as good as Mackowiak.
  9. Greenstein seems to downplay the increase, however looking at the schedule so far, 15 of the 46 games were weekday afternoon games or weeknight west coast games. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines
  10. Depends where it's made up. The Angels could say that was our last trip to Chicago, have them play the make up game when their back in town in September.
  11. No doubt this is a bit of gamesmanship by the Sox since their bullpen could use a day off with the re-shuffling of roles due to Contreras' injury and Haeger's less than stellar performance last night. It actually doesn't look too bad here in Oak Lawn. Kudos to the organization for puting winning in front of profits.
  12. Not official, but looks like tonight's game has been cancelled because they stopped selling tickets online for it.
  13. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 01:51 PM) Up 1 in the 8th inning to a division rival is not the time to be finding out whether Logan is good or if he's trash. There are much much better times to see what Logan has. Win the game first and foremost. It's game 3 of 162. If Jenks was throwing like he did last year, Cotts wouldn't have had to been saved to close the game and would have pitched to Hafner.
  14. QUOTE(SnB @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 12:09 PM) i basically agree with this statement. His use of the bullpen last season was horrendous at times. But that never even came into play in the playoffs because of our ridiculous starters. I think Ozzie is an excellent tactical manager. Logan facing Hafner yesterday was the right call because you have to find who he's capable of getting out. Logan has to get the Hafner's of the world out or there's no reason to have three lefties in the pen.
  15. Blue seats aren't necessarily bad, but the shade of blue the seats were at the cell was just terrible, IMO. I also think blue seats added to the height of the UD in people's mind. Psychological studies have shown that the mind associates the color blue with the sky while green is associated with the ground.
  16. Any guesses about what those future renovations might be? Perhaps brick work to cover the gray concrete along the UD? Better out of town scoreboard?
  17. I seem to recall reading that a pretty good lefty from Japan was on the free-agent market too, but I can't verify it anywhere on the web. Any help would be appreciated.
  18. I think Harris would be a decent option as a back up in center. He's sort of a Juan Pierre lite type of player. As far as a back up infielder goes, I think Bellhorn would be an ideal fit. He'd be cheap, can play 2nd & 3rd, lefty hitter who gets on base.
  19. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 12:16 PM) I ordered my ozzie plan over the phone last year, worked fine. Lot's of things have changed since last year.
  20. The Ozzie Plan offers so many different possible combination of games that it would be near impossible to process orders over the phone in a timely fashion UNLESS the customer has his act together. Internet only is definitely the way to go.
  21. I guess JR created a stir in DC yesterday when he said that the 2.7M the Nats drew last season wasn't all that great for a franchise's inaugeral season in a city. Anyway, I guess he was asked by a DC reporter if last season was a success. The rest is taken from a Nats message board: "I was listening to WTOP and they had a clip of Reinsdorf being asked about the success of last season at which point he replied "Yes it was a success." then the elevators were closing and he add "For the White Sox." After seeing this picture, I see they were laughing at his "joke." Picture: http://media3.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co...05120101867.jpg I love it.
  22. It's utterly stupid to hand out the rings any other day than Opening Day.
  23. I think they should be very cautious about dealing Rowand. Cheap CF'ers who play the position defensively as well as he does, and provide some power, are real hard to find.
  24. The market for Thome is very limited due to his contract, injury, and most importantly his no-trade clause. With his elbow you can pretty much rule out the Mets and Red Sox (Ortiz isn't going to play the field.) I'd say the the Angels are a longshot too because I think it would make sense for them to keep the DH spot open in case Vlad will need it one of these years. All that taken into consideration maybe they can get him for Hernandez and Marte. In that exchange of salaries the Sox would be taking on about $39M over 3 years.
  25. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 04:36 PM) You make an excellent point. But, I have been one of those consitently expecting a very similar 2005/2006 payroll. Remember, they made money in 2004 which they put back into the 2005 payroll. Last year, not only did attendance increase by 20%, but ticket prices increased by about 25% Factor in the post-season run and increase in 2006 season ticket sales, I wouldn't be surprised if the payroll went from $75M to around $95M.
