  1. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Feb 17, 2006 -> 05:30 PM)
    According to Bruce Levine, Ozzie wants Tim Raines on the bench because he's much more of a talker than Harold Baines (really?)Rock will be able to share his base-running and hitting knowledge a lot better on the bench than Harold.

    hmmm, I know someone who said that. Me. :)

  2. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Feb 17, 2006 -> 02:05 PM)
    Because Rock Raines is in the top ten in stolen bases in the history of the game.  I thought he had a big impact with the sox being one of the best base stealing teams in the league.  Sure you can talk about Pods but it happened with other guys to.  Jermaine Dye had 11 stolen bases.  People in Oakland were comparing him to Konerko in terms of speed.  Plus I think Baines is a pretty good Bench Coach. So there is your f***ing reason.

    :lol:

    I didnt even phrase that last post with (much)sarcasm. I was honestly curious why you kept saying it was a bad move without saying why. Tell me what the big difference is? Rock isnt coaching guys up on how to steal bases during games. He does that in workouts with players, his in-game job isnt as much strategy and observation at 1st base. if he ever has aspirations of becoming a manager as speculated, he is going to have to sit next to the coach sometimes during the game and learn the managers game from there. I dont think this is as big of a deal as some posters are making it out to be. When you switch a 3rd base coach, then you notice a difference.

  3. Found this on www.czabe.com

    Mike Davis is out at Indiana, only he’s “in” for the rest of the season. Hard to believe that a school would allow a guy to ride out his own filthy season to a close. That’s usually reserved just for honored long time coaches. What happens if Davis and the Hoosiers roll in to the last home game with a 4 game skid? Fun times…

    Now here’s something really funny. Read the following….

    BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- This is the season you didn't want, and you know who you are. Maybe you smiled as you visited FireMikeDavis.com. Who knows, maybe you're the one who founded the stupid website. Whatever the case, you wanted the Indiana basketball team to struggle this season -- not embarrassingly so, but enough to satisfy your bloodlust for Mike Davis' job

    Find another host, parasite.

    Mike Davis has coached his way off the hot seat and into a long-term contract extension at Indiana. Nothing on the contract front has been announced. It hasn't even been discussed. But it will happen, and it should happen soon. If I'm Indiana athletics director Rick Greenspan, I'm finalizing Davis' contract extension soon.

    Because the price keeps going up.

    Now, guess who wrote it? Answer: Greg Doyel, CBS Sportsline

    When did he write it? January 17th, 2006!

    As they say: “DOH!”

  4. Maybe Raines wants to give more input to Ozzie from the bench. You know, he cant just turn to Pods when he gets to first and say "I think you can steal this bag on the second pitch", but on the bench he can tell Ozzie, and Ozzie can relay the sign to Cora. I also tend to believe that Lupus is playing a part in this.

  5. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 03:35 PM)
    I don't think we are in the top 3 for most improved teams in the AL nor would I count Kong as a free agent signing. Yes, it's an unwritten rule, but that category usually belongs to players signing with new teams.

    semantics - schemantics. If you dont want to view Kong as a free agent signing then you can call it player retention. Either way, the Sox are better off with Konerko than they are without him.

  6. http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/02/17/marijuana...t.ap/index.html

    SPOKANE, Washington (AP) -- Law enforcement officers harvested a dubious record last year -- enough marijuana plants to rank the illegal weed as Washington state's No. 8 agricultural commodity, edging out sweet cherries in value.

    The 135,323 marijuana plants seized in 2005 were estimated to be worth $270 million -- a record amount that places the crop among the state's top 10 agricultural commodities, based on the most recent statistics available.

    "We're struck by the amount of work they put into it," said Rich Wiley, who heads the Washington State Patrol narcotics program. "It's very labor intensive. They often run individual drip lines to each plant, and are out there fertilizing them."

    The net results have a tremendous payoff to illegal growers, said Wiley, who coordinates pot busts with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency and local law enforcement agencies. A single plant can produce as much as a pound of processed marijuana, worth an estimated $2,000, he said.

    The estimated $270 million value of the plants seized in 2005 ranked just above sweet cherries, which were valued at $242 million in 2004, and just below the $329 million the state's nurseries and greenhouses produced. Apples are the state's No. 1 agricultural commodity, bringing $962.5 million in 2004.

    This is the seventh year in a row that record numbers of marijuana plants have been seized and destroyed statewide, the State Patrol said. The state's known pot harvest, based on seizures, went from 66,521 plants in 2003 to 132,941 in 2004, then to 135,323 last year.

    Most of the growing operations were in eastern Washington, principally outdoors on federal or state land in remote locations near a source of water, the State Patrol said.

    In recent years, marijuana crops have been larger and more sophisticated than in the past, law enforcement spokesmen said.

    Douglas County sheriff's Chief Criminal Deputy Robbin Wagg said while some "mom and pop" crops of 500 or fewer plants are still being found, most are larger and more sophisticated, with as many as 10,000 plants being irrigated and tended.

    Effects of war, Katrina

    Marijuana eradication efforts have been hampered by cutbacks in Air National Guard budgets and personnel have been assigned to tasks related to the Iraq war, Wagg said. National Guard helicopters are the most productive way to spot marijuana patches in the county's remote fields and draws, he said.

    "We used to get three or four days of flying time. Now, it's one to one-and-a-half days," he said. "They do a great job for us."

    Wiley said last year, three National Guard helicopters and three provided by the DEA flew for a month during the marijuana harvest season in late summer, before they were assigned to Hurricane Katrina duties. About 80 percent of the finds are made from the air, he said.

    Facing their own budget restrictions, law enforcement agencies in north-central Washington estimate they find perhaps half of the pot being grown illegally.

    "We get half if we're lucky and good," Wagg said.

    270 million dollars worth of weed in Washington state alone last year. Holy cow.

  7. You see what happens when I go to the game? The first Bulls game I go to in the UC(only been to one game ever, in 93 playoffs vs Atlanta) and the Bulls win by 30. Now everyone needs to start throwing me down free tickets and the Bulls will win out for the rest of the season ;)

  8. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 01:16 PM)
    What band? Curious to see if we know the same people, since few bands in the area have "made it".

    Revis. They were on the Daredevil soundtrack, the official MLB 2001 video game(i dont remember if it was 2k1 or MVP 2001), I lived with them for about a year, right up until they moved out to California to "hit it big". They did good, toured on the Nintendo Fusion tour and briefly with Pearl Jam, but they broke up after their egos blew up a little.

  9. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 12:30 PM)
    No. This is hardly "unusual" behavior for bands. The only odd aspect if Stapp's supposed religious side. But he's been hammered in public and on stage recently, so he's obviously not all he says he is. Plus, do you really think this will hurt their image??? They're guys, nobody gives a crap about them. These video sales will be really low.

    Scott Stapp was married at the time of this video. He preaches about his christianity and how it leads him through life, he sings about it, and then he goes and gets trashed and gets in fights with other bands, with his own band, with security at an airport, and now he has a sex tape which occured with groupies at the time he was married and singing about his newborn son.

    Do I really think this will hurt Kid Rocks image? Hell no, this is his fanbase's image of Kid Rock. This is no big deal.

    Do I think this will hurt Scott Stapps image? Do you know how popular Scott Stapp and Creed were in 1999? Do you know how popular Scott Stapp is now? Its not even a point of contention, Stapp fell off the map faster than Wile E Coyote in the past 5 years. This is just icing on the cake.

  10. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 12:20 PM)
    Yeah, I download music. But if I like the band, I buy the CD. Or I go to the show. But I support the artists I like, period. If I don't I stop listening to the mp3, because it and they suck.

    I have a friend who hit it big a few years ago with his band. He told me that the money that bands make off of an album is a pittance compared to the money they make off of tours and merchandise. I buy cds I like, and a download also. I have been to too many concerts to count(although very few lately), and I think I have done a great job of supporting the artists I like. Like I said, the RIAA is just trying to find new ways to take money from me and I dont appreciate it.

  11. QUOTE(samclemens @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 11:35 AM)
    you are right, the uniforms are a technical point. but its still valid. i'll stick with it.  :santabye

    dont only address half of my argument though. what about the violations they have and continue to commit? then trying to be afforded it's protections? i got a huge problem with that kind of blatant hypocrisy, thats why i feel so staunchly about this issue.

    I did address it. You are telling me that the US should be hypocrites because the terrorists are hypocrites. I disagree. If you believe in something (ie. the geneva conventions) and you tell everyone you are going to follow that something, then you better not renege because the bad guys didnt play fair. Guess what? The bad guys never play fair. Its the way it goes, thats why they are criminals.
