QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Feb 6, 2006 -> 05:18 PM)It is apparent to me that context is everything in this debate. FSJ actually believes that we are simply at the top of the evolutionary chain now & that say a million years from now something else most likely will take our place.
I don't believe that for a second. Why? Because computer science has changed everything. If we do not kill ourselves or fall victim to a LEE we will create viable & intelligent synthetic life. There is no question of this path. And if we can create such life to mirror a human being than we can do so for all lesser lifeforms.
We are living in the computer age. Next comes the cyborg age. Then after that comes the synthetic life age. Selection isn't at work there. We are.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 6, 2006 -> 10:47 AM)Yeah good point, I was just thinking ESPN and ESPN rather than the games being on Monday. Who is going to do the Sunday games on NBC (right?) Do they know yet?
Isnt it NBC? I thought there was a switcharound. I know Madden is going to NBC.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 6, 2006 -> 10:42 AM)Tirico is a tenfold improvement over Patrick, Theisman is bleh, and Kornheiser can't be worse than McGuire. So to answer your question, I won't be happy with those 3, but it's a start and a MAJOR improvement over the last crew on ESPN.
You arent replacing Tirico over Patrick, you are replacing Tirico over Al Michaels, Kornheiser and Theisman replacing Madden. Personally I think the 3 man team is a bit much, too many people tripping over each others sentences.
-
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 6, 2006 -> 10:36 AM)Thatta girl Bonnie!! lol.....as for that other stuff, I'm happy because I don't have to hear Patrick or McGuire next year in the booth.
So you are going to be happy with Mike Tirico, Joe Theisman, and Tony Kornheiser?
-
A lot of NFL related media shakeups coming down for next year. Here’s a quick take on three big story lines – some of which are done deals, but have yet to be officially announced.
Tony Kornheiser to ESPN’s MNF
Could be great, could be Dennis Miller 2.0. Tony will be awful, if two things happen. 1) If he gets co-opted by the traditional NFL “priviledges” that Miller was suddenly enthralled by. Like the way Miller would meet with coaches the week before the game, and then gush about things he was privy to. It totally took his edge off. 2) If Kornheiser can’t adjust his very good ‘long-form’ point making abilities (the strength of his radio show) and get his shots off in a distinctly short-form environment (20 seconds between plays, at most). Then again, Tony will be fantastic, if he keeps his distance, doensn’t care about making enemies, and uses his rapier wit to slice up the “serious” NFL establishment. Only time will tell.
James Brown to CBS Pre Game
Look, J.B. is a great great guy. But he wasn’t re-inventing the medium of television every week with the Fox crew. Sure he knew enough to just lay out and give the stage to Terry, Howie and Jimmy. But what was he going to bring to the table even if he wanted to? He’s so nice, and so “safe” as a broadcaster, you never expected anything. In fact, all J.B. did really was bring the show in and out of breaks – usually over the inane cackling of everyone else on the set. I don’t know his salary for that, but I’m sure it was sweet. I really don’t know how much better he’s going to make the CBS show. I also don’t know anybody who really cares. It’s the pre-game shows!
Bonnie Bernstein OUT at CBS
I essentially “reported” this to you here at the Daily Czabe last week, although I did not feel comfortable reporting the more salacious details as to why she would be on the way out. To repeat here: the word I got was that she was.. um… ahem.. “mixing business and pleasure” in a way that was about to get her in serious trouble. Whatever it was, it’s too damn bad. She’s still damn hot for a sideline gal, and knew sports as well as any babe with a mic. The glory days of chicks giving us injury updates are fast fading. Lisa Guererro, gone. Melissa Stark, gone. Now Bonnie. Ugh
www.czabe.com
Looks like everything we knew in our pre-game shows, in game hosts, and sideline reporters will change next year.
Oh yeah, and the guy I quoted was saying last week that Bernstein is or was screwing a head coach and helping him into a divorce, and CBS wasnt happy with how it was shaking out.
Quote:
Here’s a great RUMOR that a “source” who has “sources” claims is about to go bombshell public. I will spare you the actual names, because I think the actual veracity of these RUMORS is about the same as the ones claiming Phil Mickelson has become the Shawn Kemp of the PGA Tour. (Note: if those rumors were true, don’t you think by now one of his “errant tee shots” would have come public?). Okay, so here goes…A certain female sideline reporter is hot and heavy with a certain NFL head coach who is in the process of leaving his wife. This might prompt another hot, up and coming sideline reporter to take her job before next football season.
There. You can fill in the blanks as you like. Personally, I think it’s complete crap. Entertaining crap, but crap nonetheless.

QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Feb 5, 2006 -> 06:57 PM)This is a funny thread.
For someone like myself, who has seen damn near every wrestling show since I was a kid, it's interesting to read the thoughts of people who used to watch it, or people who sometimes catch it.
Lot of weird comments.
Can you pin it as "The Wrestling Thread"?

QUOTE(Brian @ Feb 5, 2006 -> 01:38 PM)Not that I remember, but I could be wrong. TNA is made up of tons of former WWE stars, only Christian was worth a damn, so if he was, I wouldn't be surprised.
No I just checked, and he wasnt.
-
QUOTE(Brian @ Feb 5, 2006 -> 01:36 PM)I can't stand TNA, but Monty Brown is one I think could make it big. He could easily get over in WWE.
I thought Monty Brown used to be in the WWE?

QUOTE(JoeBatterz @ Feb 5, 2006 -> 12:45 PM)I agree, that is why I was comparing actors to actors. Michaels, Hogan, Flair are all actors. There acting is a lot more physical than what you might see at the movies and they do their own stunts. However, it still is planned ahead of time and the outcome is predetermined.
Professional Wrestling is not a Sport. It is sports entertainment.
MMMMk. Clint Eastwood, Paul Newman, Hulk Hogan, and Ric Flair are all actors who work in common jobs.
Did I say that wrestling was a sport? Or did I say you cannot compare athletes to actors? Just because there is a script to wrestling, doesnt make these guys all actors. They are athletes, and just because they follow a script doesnt mean they can be compared to Clint Eastwood and Paul Newman. Horrible Comparison.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Feb 5, 2006 -> 12:03 PM)And some guys NEVER get it.
A lot of guys never get it.
I think good managers like Cornette and Heyman can really help guys get over who are missing the mic skills. The manager is a dying breed - Daivari could be a good one, I think, if he drops the screaming in Arabic ( which he seems to have done already ).
I agree, Daivari is a good manager. He is a wrestler besides being a manager, so he can actually get up on the mat and cause some havoc in the middle of a match.
I havent heard Lashley cut a promo ever, so i cannot really comment on his in ring mic skills. he has been interviewed a few times on the side, but that doesnt really count. No one is ever good when they are interviewed by that ditz if you ask me.
From what I read, Jim Cornette is not very well liked, but everyone loves what Heyman has done with the OVW. Ken Kennedy was almost on his way out when Johnny Ace got fired and Heyman took over, and Heyman came in and told Kennedy he was going to make him a star. I dont know for sure, but if Kennedy can stay healthy, I think he is going to be huge. He has that ego that the stars have, his mic skills are totally great, and he can wrestle. He is technical and big. Lashley will probably be a Goldberg type wrestler until he can get on the mic and cause someone to get pissed off, but thats fine. A dominator is always fun to watch until you can tell that the matches are being given away(ie. Goldbergs last 100 matches of his "streak").
Im glad for TNA though, Vince is always at his best under pressure. When there isnt competition, that Cat gets fat and puts his feet up.

Dayn Perry is one year late with this assessment, if you ask me. I was worried about Detroit at the beginning of last year. This year, not so much.

QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Feb 5, 2006 -> 11:35 AM)In a nutshell, 200 AB and this line:
276 .313 .330 .643
I don't mind that line nearly as much as Timo's though:
218 .266 .296 .562
179 AB
Yuck, Yuck, Yuck.
Yeah, Pablo and Timo wont have a combined 400 AB. Pablo and Mackowiak will. And that will be worth much more than 10 runs and 2 wins.
Mackowiak in 2005
463 AB .272 BA .337 OBP .389 SLG .726 OBPS
The bench will be much improved.

Im willing to give Lashley a little rope right now, he is still really raw and new. His in ring presence is pretty good, but some guys take a little while to get the microphone part of the job down pat.
-
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Feb 5, 2006 -> 09:43 AM)Would you rather bring back guys like El Duque and Timo so we can be worse next season?
I think he would, he has been complaining about just about every move since the offseason started.

Its over now. CNN is reporting that Robida has died from his gunshot wounds

Yeah, this didnt exhibit any signs of ending on a good note. The kid definitely went out in a blaze of "glory". I wonder who the girl passenger was that he shot.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Feb 5, 2006 -> 09:42 AM)When people get busted for soliciting a prostitue or looking for kids in sting operations, why is not considered entrapment?
I think the difference in this situation is the log of the conversation. I think the predator has to solicit them for sex or strongly hint at it before an arrest can be made. Alot of the guys who were interviewed sent the "fake" pictures of their genitals and were talking about what they were going to do with the 13 year old before they even came over. And at one point in the series, Chris Hansen said the explicit conversations on the internet were worth only a misdemeanor, but if they came over to the house looking for sex they were going to get busted for felony solicitation of a minor.
I think they walk a pretty fine line, but the record of the internet conversation is the key.

What is NASA's stance on this?
While finding the flying spaghetti monster pic, I came across this doonesbury comic, and thought it applied well to the topic of conversation. Enjoy.
