Does anyone know where the Sox payroll is at after dumping Cease’s $8 million, while adding Stephen Wilson’s $770K or so?

I believe it will be 7.3M less than what it was before

with Montgomery and Snells price collapsing, what would be the major downside of signing Montgomery to a 2/3 year opt-out contract? (Snell would cost a QO pick)

I just find it funny there's a chance Thorpe will be the team ace when he's called up. Sox are picking #10 next year anyways... At least give us fans 25 fun games to watch this season 🤷‍♂️

Come on, snell and Montgomery aren’t taking 2-3 year deals with this current smoldering wreckage of royals teams past, and hoping that the Sox do right by them and trade them where they want to go or to a good team.

I am sure Dylan Cease is the one who is relieved now that this ordeal is over for him.  Despite getting highly compensated, it could not have been easy for him and his family to be not knowing where they will end up.  Trade deadline is one thing, but this was going on for nearly 5 months straight.

He hasn’t gotten highly compensated yet, he was just moved.  The compensation part comes next offseason and will most likely be a longer period of uncertainty due to his agent

i think it sort of worked with Tanaka, but even then, he wasn't what he was supposed to be. Other than that, has the rest and rehab ever worked?

It seems Tanaka and to an extent Liam are the only guys that really got away with it for a long period of time

Where are you seeing that at? A Khalil Mack reunion would be interesting. Adding Allen or Williams to the WR room on a short term deal would be pretty dope as well.

Mike Florio of Profootballtalk.  Tried to paste the story but for some reason it will not copy paste

NYY could also just trade for Cease in a few months. The Yankees have a deep enough roster to hang around for the first half of the season. A trade for Cease further down the road makes more sense.

I disagree that their roster is deep enough.  Their starting pitching is wretched, especially if Rodon doesn’t come back to form.  If Baltimore Toronto and Tampa get out in front again it might be too late

    Either:

    1. They trade him over the next week or so for some pick, probably to either Minnesota, Denver, LA Rams or New England.

    2. Hold onto Fields until the trade deadline or when some team has an injury. See if he and Williams can coexist.

    3. Trade during the draft as Chisoxfn suggests.

    4. Two quarterback headed monster with Fields and Williams.

Yes to your question. I was one of them.

A la Kain Colter / Trevor Semien.

Maybe the new GM and coach are finally doing the right things in Carolina, even though they should have dealt Burns for two first rounders when they had the chance.

Perhaps that even with limited picks, Poles will be conservative in free agency and build more through the draft, which is consistent with what Brad Biggs has reported. But there has to be more out there to fill holes on this team.

    Need another interior defensive lineman.

No, not at all like that.  Like Taysom Hill.  Not a back up, a guy who comes in and just runs wild for a few plays

I honestly believe that so much of their off-season plan was reliant on Fields bringing in at least a second round pick, and now they have to adjust without it. But unfortunately, they are already limited with draft capital outside of #1 and #9

You want to talk about setting up your QB for success? Sign a veteran and have Williams sit. If they value intangibles like a good locker room, don’t even allow an opportunity for a Fields/Williams QB controversy.

I think they would be disappointed if they can’t move Justin but I can’t imagine so much of their offseason hinges on one (maybe) second round pick.  It helps, but it’s not everything

    Its not a bad idea.

If Justin was willing to take a multi year deal that was less than he maybe wanted, but allowed him to be tradeable if he flashed, would seemingly benefit all.  I’m not sure they have to do anything but enact his 5th year option though, and just operate as a one year extension of his rookie contract
