Grilling
QUOTE (Iwritecode @ May 27, 2015 -> 11:07 AM) I don't think it's the airflow. It's basically the grease dripping down onto the metal plates that cover the burners. Then the flames come up and set the grease on fire, even on their lowest settings. When I grill something like hot dogs or brats where there is no grease dripping down, it's not a problem. Yea, your grease catchers are full, so the grease goes straight to the burner. What brand grill are you using?(I apologize if you already stated it) You can either take them out and degrease them or buy new ones. You shouldn't have the same problem with charcoal though. You can indirect cook your meat and the grease won't touch the coals. I usually throw my burgers directly on the flame until they have a nice seer, and then move them outside the coals so they cook all the way through but the flame isn't burning the burgers into pieces of char

Grilling
QUOTE (Iwritecode @ May 27, 2015 -> 08:25 AM) You would think so. Just this past weekend we had all 3 burners on low with the lid down. I was sitting right next to the grill and it still flared up. I ended up turning the middle one off completely. Maybe it's a cheap grill? The charcoal is plenty hot when I start. I use a metal chimney to get them going and they are ashy/glowing red when I actually put the meat on. I've gotten better but I still seem to end up with some "dead spots" in the charcoal where the grease drips down and puts it out. One thing I do with my Weber is when the coals are hot, I put the top on the grill with the vents open for 5-10 minutes. I have a red Weber and when it gets super hot, the paint actually turns darker red so I know it's really hot. I get no dead spots. I know what you are talking about though, I used to have the same problem. I am pretty sure the grease catchers are the problem for you. after college I never used a gas grill again because I hated how I couldn't control the flames, once grease started flowing that thing just got crazy uncontrollable. But we had a really cheap grill, I'm sure an expensive gas Weber would be just fine for me.

Grilling
I have no back pocket resource, I just try and look for appealing recipes through friends and social media friends, and look up the recipe. I usually give things a shot exactly how the recipe calls for, and then play around with the recipe if I think it could be better. And I am a big charcoal user. Love it

2015-2016 NFL Thread
QUOTE (bmags @ May 26, 2015 -> 01:24 PM) Well, I'm pretty sure Ray Mcdonald would have been out of the league except for the Bears. There were 4 players involved in horrific domestic violence/child abuse last year : AP, Hardy, Rice and Mcdonald. The bears decided to pick up McDonald why? Just such an easy problem to avoid. How many times does it have to be said that it is because of Fangio? And come on now, the Cowboys would have sniffed around. No doubt

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 26, 2015 -> 01:16 PM) Are the Bears in win now mode? That's the thing I don't understand. Read Biggs article. It's pretty good, at least from my point of view. The Bears are in "pack the roster with one year deal players and start to build a core" mode. McDonald really doesn't play into anything going forward, he followed Fangio and ended up remaining the dumbest motherf***er on the roster for two years running

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 26, 2015 -> 01:15 PM) I wouldn't be surprised if they were extra on the lookout to avoid a similar PR hit in the near future. Put it this way. Matt Forte gets hurt in TC. Ray Rice is available. Are the Bears going to be the team that does that? I'd guess this actually would effect the answer. Oh sure, let's skip right past every available back without problems and go straight to the only guy out there available who missed last season due to domestic violence. I'm sure this scenario is plausible

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 26, 2015 -> 01:11 PM) Predicting it is also a part of it. There is a reason the 49ers cut him. If they didn't think he would be any more trouble, he probably still is with them. Hard to say that, the 49ers just went into total self destruct mode. Had they still been in Win Now mode with Harbaugh and Fangio in charge then McDonald may still be there

2015-2016 NFL Thread
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 26, 2015 -> 01:09 PM) I agree the PR is a huge part of this. And everyone seems to be ignoring that yes there are bad guys in every locker room, and some day, when the Bears actually have a shot of winning something, one of these guys will be available to help them, and the answer from George McCaskey will be undoubtedly be no. I don't think the answer will be no. The Bears have taken many chances on sketchy characters over the past 10-15 years

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 26, 2015 -> 01:06 PM) Is financial risk the only one here? Is there a PR risk issue? They also have a potential fine of $150k from the NFL front office for now having signed 2 people with law-enforcement issues, that fine could increase if anyone else gets into trouble. Omg, 150k. Whatever are they going to do?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 26, 2015 -> 12:52 PM) It's kinda someone's job to make sure you can predict those things. No, it's kind of someone's job to protect yourself from something like this, not predict it. The NFL is littered with bad guys, in every locker room, you cannot insulate yourself from all of them. They gave this guy a nice non guaranteed chance and he blew it immediately. It's egg on the face for sure, but there isn't any long term ramifications here.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 22, 2015 -> 04:07 PM) If you were to compare gamethreads from 2011-2015 with 2005-2008, you're telling me the sheer numbers and quality are higher right now? I don't mean one or two day blips when there's a major trade or injury. If the numbers are improving, how can that be running in the face of tv ratings and attendance, unless the growth is directly related to the implosion of WSI and absorbing new members and guests from over there? Is Sox fandom shrinking/contracting or simply relocating/migrating/hibernating? You are the one throwing a 40% drop off in soxtalk membership compared to 05-08. Why don't you go ahead and prove it. This site is thriving despite a huge drop in messageboard usage everywhere. Not only thriving, expanding, growing, and evolving. - 2015 Films thread
