  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 11:27 PM) Fun offseason for fans. But all we need to remember is Adam Dunn. The Sox acquisitions could all suck and the Sox could quickly resemble the Phillies or some team like that. I hope for the best and applaud Hahn. I just hope all these new guys are motivated and talented. well arent you a beacon of shining light
  2. I blame Gar Foreman. By all accounts the Bulls are ready to hand it off to Fred Hoiberg because him and Gar are boys. The last time the Bulls replaced their head coach with a Iowa State head coach, it was not pleasant. Sorry heads
  3. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 09:46 PM) So Dunleavy died right? Yes of severe gangrene due to sprained ankle
  4. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 07:58 PM) 8 month pregnant women. They tend to get pissed about dumb s***. Yea, well, too bad. You did that
  5. Player A, I saw the article on fan graphs http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/avisail-gar...p-on-potential/
  6. QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 05:53 PM) let me ask you, are we still talking about shields??? i am kind of lose here. Yes. You are presenting Shields as a insurance policy in case the top three need a breather. Shields paycheck (theoretical paycheck) is probably going to be somewhere between 14 and 20 mil. No I don't think he will get 20 mil per, but you never know. Why would you want to pay someone that kind of money just to give your top three a breather late in the season? That just doesn't make sense
  7. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 05:41 PM) Who knew Gordon Beckham would get 27 pages from SoxTalk. You guys that interested in him? As is the case in many white sox threads, we have experienced deviation
  8. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 05:43 PM) Does he have a Facebook page or something like? If he is interested could you PM his email and I will email him I texted him, give me a little while and I will let you know
  9. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 05:44 PM) Is Smackdown cancelled tonight? Cancelled? I thought it was going live?
  10. QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 05:33 PM) a very good point, but let think of it this way. his value is to help get the team there, give ample rest to the 3 top sp's bridge the season while helping prepare the team for the playoff. this team as built, can do alot of special things come playoff. but the team needs to get there and healthy. The money needed for this insurance policy is just not worth it. I would rather the insurance policy be Rodon or Montas if Noesi/Danks fail
  11. A friend of mine does it as a hobby and I could ask if he is interested.
  12. QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 05:27 PM) i never said 100 for 4 or more yrs, and i am not a fan of shields. but with nothing out there, and again not for 4 or more yrs, yes. the sox screw this up when they had a chance to do more, in the beginning of the fa season. Again, you just presented a scenario where Shields is needed in a 5 game series presuming that the top 3 pitchers can't pitch. You really think this hypothetical is worth throwing a terrible contract at Shields?
  13. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 03:55 PM) I have never once said it's fact. Of course it's a reference. It sets a decent baseline, from which standard deviations exist. No you didn't say it is a fact, but those of us that don't really fall in line with what they are projecting are out of touch of reality, according to you.
  14. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 03:43 PM) This is just a Hawk vs. Sabermetrics situation. Older guys don't appreciate statistics saying their team isn't good as they "feel like" it is. Not even close to that. I see PECOTA as a reference, a point of view, not a fact.
  15. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 03:08 PM) Everyone else is basing their opinion on their own personal gut feeling about the team as a biased fan. These projections are completely unbiased and considered the best in the business amongst the entire baseball industry. How dare I subscribe to one over the other. Also I'm very excited about the team. I'm happy it's a much better team, and I think Hahn's done an amazing job. That doesn't mean they're winning the WS. You see, nobody here is telling you that you aren't allowed to make those projections. You, on the other hand, are scoffing at everyone for daring to not believe "the best in the business in the entire baseball industry".
  16. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 03:03 PM) sigh. you're wrong but you won't be convinced, so there's really no point arguing it. you're the Hawk of projection systems. He isn't wrong, he is telling you to stop telling everyone else is wrong because HEY PECOTA SAID SO. And on top of that he is giving specific recent examples of how the projections aren't to be bought into wholesale. I get it, you don't believe the Sox have what it takes. But don't point to projections and say "see? I'm right!" As if they are facts
  17. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 27, 2015 -> 09:20 AM) I'm a habitual "watch X game and post on my phone" person. same
  18. Im curious what the penalty would be if you were to enforce no shifts. Oh hey you are in the no shift zone, automatic ball/walk? I got an idea, lets review this in the booth and determine if he really was in the no shift zone so we can waste another 5 minutes
  19. Sporting News ‏@sportingnews 31m31 minutes ago Phil Jackson wants to talk about anything but the current Knicks team
  20. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 09:46 AM) Who have said that Robin's on the hot seat? Huh. Must have missed that. You, since you keep reiterating that Robin will not be fired
  21. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 09:40 AM) You didn't read my first post. I literally said the Sox outperform PECOTA by an avg of 7 wins per year, which, if it continued, would put us at 85 wins. We'd then still need a lot of things to go right to reach the upper 80s-90 wins. That's asking a lot. My point being, if we don't make the playoffs, but are competitive, Robin's not getting fired. Is this where i can say "I guess I didnt realize that you know more than the folks in the front office"?
  22. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 09:27 AM) They're not my predictions, they're PECOTA. But yeah I'm sure you know better than the folks at baseball prospectus.... i wasnt aware that they were an infallible prediction machine. IIRC dont the Sox historically outperform PECOTA predictions?
  23. Boras: I think all teams should destroy their payroll for my players and i also think i should have input on how the game is played.
  24. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jan 29, 2015 -> 07:23 AM) Can Soto hit lefties any better than Viciedo? I don't think so. This whole Beckham/Viciedo charade is crazy. Hahn is taking a big chance here. If LaRoche doesn't hit this year, if he turns into an old guy real fast, if he is the 2015 version of Adam Dunn, Sox are in trouble. Viciedo at least represented a RH DH alternative, now it's Soto? Sox are now a weaker team than they were a week ago, and we take back Gordo to clog up the infield even more? Where does this leave Bontifacio and all his speed? If Hahn wants to use Gordo as a RH third baseman because Gillaspie can't hit lefties, why didn't he do that last year? Sorry, I don't get it. Looks like a Forrest Gump move to me. If Laroche failed and you were expecting Viciedo to swoop in and save the day, I am sorry you got your hopes up at all. They arent a weaker team because they swapped out bench players, and got rid of one that couldnt play a lick of defense
