Sox v. Yanks 8/19/05 Official Game Thread

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 08:31 PM) Where would he play? Certainly not over Pods, Rowand, Dye or Everett. We could have only used a 3b or a DH. And Matt Lawton is not a DH. I think the guy we need to go for is Omar Vizquel. He's exactly what we need. Contact hitter, speed, great defense. Uribe could be moved to the bench. The whole NL West friggen sucks, hopefully San Francisco will trade him to us. (If he cleared waivers). CWSOX45 -

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 08:25 PM) And you honestly think Kenny's not trying to get something done? I mean you guys make it sound like he can just go to TB and say, "I want Huff. Give him to me. Thanks" Teams were, and still are asking for a hell of a lot this year. well if he is....lets just say he's taking his time. Our offense has been doing this for the whole month. If it werent for our stellar pitching, we'd be really really really more f***ed than we are.....which is hard to imagine. -

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 08:23 PM) You guys are acting like KW didn't think we needed to get KGJ. He tried. It didn't work out. There owner didn't want to give them up. True, but KGJ is not the only bat out there that could help this team.....I think any bat could help this team. CWSOX45 -

I think we should just have all our guys stand on top of the plate....and just turn into pitches, at least that way we could get baserunners. CWSOX45 -

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 08:21 PM) Might the lead be in single digits tonight? It's ok, everything is fine, right Hawk, KW, and Ozzie? Wow another pop-up.... CWSOX45 -

QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 08:18 PM) Our picthing blew that game. But youre telling me a major league team can't score another run in 7 more innings of play? Our pitching was the only reason we were around for 16 innings. CWSOX45 -

QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 08:11 PM) I agree with you, there is no arguing these poor results by the Sox hitters. They are pressing and when a hitter presses, they do dumb things. What pisses me off is how garland and our pitchers pitch their asses off, like tonight and in the 16 inning game against the twins, and our offense can't push a damn run across the plate when we need it most... This team needs a new bat in the line-up. Kenny is delusional if he thinks it's safe to go with what we have in October.... CWSOX45 -

QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 08:09 PM) They are pressing at the plate big time and yes, it makes every pitcher look better no doubt. However, this guy is how many games over .500 for his career? Probably about 80? I agree Jim, but some of the pitches the Sox have been swinging at are just ridiculous. Most of our guys look completely lost at the plate, the only one that was swinging the bat well was Konerko....and he's gone. Mussina is a good pitcher, but there is no way a Major League team should be swinging at the pitches we've seen the Sox swing at the last few games. CWSOX45 -

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 08:08 PM) Corpseball in recent years was better than this offensive slump. There was a lot more talent in our lineups the last few years. Any word on how long PK will be out? Anytime Geoff Blum and Timo are in the line-up I feel dizzy....I'd rather have Ross Gload up than Blum the bum. CWSOX45 -

Is it that hard to just take some pitches? Mussina is a good pitcher, but he isn't THAT good. CWSOX45 -

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 08:04 PM) Corpseball has been back all month. 40% of our runs are scored by homers and the BA is below 230 now as a team. I thought it was just a small slump...obviously its much worse than that.. -

This has been f***ing brutal. Our guys don't have a f***ing clue at the plate. I don't understand how all of our guys can look so lost....god dammit. We really need to get Podsednik back... ENOUGH OF THIS s***. SCORE SOME f***ING RUNS!! CWSOX45 -
and with those god awful averages we're still 4-4. Hey they gotta heat up eventually. CWSOX45

Next to Huff, Mackowiak would be the next best player for the White Sox to get to help our line-up. Like Huff, Mackowiak plays multiple positions, and would be a perfect utility player for us, and as Tony mentioned it would cost us nothing. I'm all for this deal. CWSOX45
-
I like the sound of this deal. Overbay could take over for next year when Konerko becomes a free agent, that way we can sign Garland to a long term deal. Get it done KW. CWSOX45

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 10:36 AM) So...let me just get this straight. Quite a few people here have turned against Paul Konerko because he: is currently hitting .260 (althoguh that's way up from May), he's one of the highest paid players on our team at $8 million a year, he may be on the downward side of his career with his numbers going down this year and he's done poorly with RISP. And you're suggesting we replace him with a guy who can't stay healthy, who makes $5 million a year more than Konerko, and who has a much longer contract? Balta, where the hell did you get that idea from? I clearly stated in my first post that Thome would replace THOMAS not Konerko. Thomas may be out for the rest of the season, and I thought Thome would be a good replacement for THOMAS. However I was unaware of Thome's astronomical salary, so all in all it was a bad idea. I never said anything about replacing Konerko. CWSOX45
-
Nevermind. Looks like he's gonna get paid 50 million over the next three years.... Mods delete this thread, I guess next time I shouldn't just speak outta my ass and might actually want to do some research before opening my mouth. Oh well, live and learn. CWSOX45
-
Sorry I didn't do much research, how many years are left on Thome's contract? CWSOX45
-
I'm not sure if this exactly the right place for this thread, considering I have heard no source of information hearing the White Sox would be interested. I know that Thome is still on the DL, but with the emergence of top prospect Ryan Howard, does anyone think that the Phillies may just want to dump his salary? Considering that rumors are that Frank may be out for the season, I think Kenny should seriously consider acquiring Thome, a powerful left handed hitter is exactly what this team needs, and he could DH. Once again, I did not hear that the White Sox are interested in Thome, I am just curious to see if any of you would like to see Kenny go after him. CWSOX45 P.S. I know his stats really suck this year, which makes me wonder if we could get him for next to nothing. Not to mention his .286 career average at U.S. Cellular Field

Just a quick question to all you guys. With a three game series in Kansas City, is now the time you let Bobby Jenks try and close out a game for us? I think this would be a prime opportunity for Jenks to get his feet wet, and learning to close games in the big leagues. CWSOX45
