QUOTE(T R U @ Mar 26, 2005 -> 10:47 AM) but people arent just going to magically come to the park, you raise the payroll for a better product and more people will come.. This is true, or you hire a guy that knows how to market a team, (Brooks Boyer) In my opinion, Brooks has done a phenomenal job since taking over for Gallas. Numbers have increased, and more promotions have been introduced to spark the interest of Chicagoland families. Not to mention the fact that he knows how to make great commercials, (Them vs Us) etc. etc. CWSOX45

Hey guys. Was reading the Daily Herald this morning, and saw a couple of cool reads. http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/sports_s...p?intid=3841756 This article talks about the two different approachs of scouting. Good read if you want to learn more about Beane's method, or just to hear a couple of old time scouts talk about what they look for in a player. http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/sox.asp?intID=3841770 This one is about Brandon McCarthy. http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/sox.asp?intID=3841769 This one talks about how Kenny believes that Sweeney and Anderson are our future, and how he won't be dealing them come July 31st. Enjoy. CWSOX45

Here are some interesting split stats I looked up on Hernandez and his career pitching in the Metrodome and at U.S. Cellular Field: Metrodome: 1-1 19.0 1 5.21 1.26 U.S. Cellular Field: 3 2-0 19.0 2.84 1.21 Pretty good numbers for the Cell, even though he has only pitched three games there. (Stats were from Yahoo.com, splits from 1987-present) CWSOX45

I don't understand how anyone can rate Kenny lower than an A for this off-season. What more do you guys want? Jesus christ. Last season all we got was Juan Uribe, this year we have an entire different team, a team that is better defensively, and will be better on the basepaths. The bullpen and rotation are stronger as well. Kenny did a hell of a job, and it's just plain stupid not to give him an A. Good Job Kenny. CWSOX45

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 11:10 AM) I did get Pyrz/Pod on Sunday. My question at Sunday's Q&A was for KW to give us a surprise guy out of the minors who would make a big splash this year. Dammit. i thought you looked familiar. I saw you waiting in line behind me for Pierzynski. I thought that was you, but wasn't exactly sure. I remember seeing you at the Tailgate against Boston, and you looked familiar. Oh well. Next time I'll give you a shout out. CWSOX45

Hey ss2k5, were u waiting in line to get Pierzynski and Podsednik's autograph on Sunday? And did you also ask KW a question about Sweeney and Anderson? I thought it might have been you, but I couldn't remember cuz the last time I saw you was at the tailgate against the Bo-Sox. CWSOX45

When being compared to the Twins, we are always the "better team" on paper. Over the past three years we all know who really was the better team.... CWSOX45

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jan 2, 2005 -> 12:46 AM) I think the Cards' rotation is getting a little too much credit from us so far. Mulder is a stud, but the rest are iffy. Carpenter had a solid year, but is coming off of surgery and was a notorious underachiever before that. Marquis was also decent last year but didn't show much before that, and Suppan is pretty mediocre. I certainly wouldn't put them in the top 5, and possibly just barely in the top 10. I understand where you are coming from. However Carpenter had showed some promise when he was pitching in Toronto, and Marquis finally seems to figured out how to pitch at the big league level. I'm still not sold on Suppan, I've never been a big fan of him. Those three are still pretty good for 4 and 5 starters, but questionable for a third starter. Mulder is an ace obviously, and if Matt Morris puts up the numbers that he did a few years ago, and if the supporting cast pitches like they did last year then they belong in the top 5. There are a lot of "If's" for the Cards, but many other teams are in the same situation. CWSOX45

1. Yanks-Once they get RJ 2. Boston-Even without Pedro, Schilling is still da man. Additions of Wells, Clement and Miller won't hurt a bit either. 3. St. Louis-Adding Mark Mulder is going to make them that much better. 4.Atlanta-Hudson will anchor the staff, Smoltz comes in from the pen. Gotta love Horacio Ramirez too. 5. Chicago Cubs-They're still in the top 5 if they remain healthy. Prior and Zambrano are absolute studs. 6. WHITE SOX-Our best rotation since 94. We need all 5 of these guys to stay healthy. 7. Twinks-The only reason they are rated this high is because of Santana and Radke. Silva can be a solid 3, but is more of a #4 or 5. 8. NY Mets-With the addition of Pedro, this rotation could easily move up to the top 5 in the league if they all stay healthy. 9. Houston-Sorry I still like Clemens, Petitte, and Oswalt. Hopefully they can all stay healthy. I'd like to see Brandon Backe step it up. 10. Oakland-Yep. I agree as another poster mentioned. Oakland may have gotten rid of two great pitchers in Mulder and Hudson, but Harden and Blanton will help fill the holes. Duscherer has some good stuff, I'd imagine he'd be moved into the rotation and Jairo Garcia would take over the set-up role. Meyer, Haren, and Cruz will fight for the last spot in the rotation. So how much money does KW have to work with? I haven't been keeping up with our budget, if someone could direct me to another thread with the details or just fill me in it would help me get an idea of how much we have left to spend. CWSOX45

What time did this report come in? If Bruce and the Score are reporting it, then I guess it's a possibility. I've never liked A.J., he's such an asshole, but if it helps the team then do it. One more question, how much was A.J. making with the Giants before being released? CWSOX45

Kenny is in stealth mode rememeber??? He just said that to throw other GM's off-track.... :rolly CWSOX45

I gotta disagree Raff. I'm sick and tired of all this "Billy Beane got lucky" s***. Making the post-season multiple years in a row is anything but lucky. Look at the players that come out of the A's farm systems. There's nothing lucky about that. It's called scouting. The A's do a good job of filling their holes with players from their farm system every year because they can't afford the ones they have. I'm going to go out on a limb right now, and say the A's will still be a pain in the ass this year to play, and I think there's a good possibility of them finishing over .500. CWSOX45

Thought I'd pop the question. When looking around the American League, I like what our staff looks like. My question to you guys is where would you rank us in the American League? I'd have to say either 4th or 5th. Obviously Boston and the Yanks are ahead of us, possibly the Twins as well. Please discuss. CWSOX45

This must be the guy that Kenny referred to as "The missing piece" Sign him. I like what I've read of him. He can become great friends with Shingo. CWSOX45

Did any one else hear that PK is building a a permenant residence by Comiskey? If this is the case signing him shouldn't be a problem. CWSOX45

Here's my question, why would the Sox deal Konerko and Garland for Vazquez?? In my opinion, with another prospect that's tough offer for the Yanks to beat in order to land Randy Johnson? Why the hell do we have to deal with New York, I'm a big Vazquez fan, but imagine this rotation now without Garland and add Randy Johnson. It's down right scary. I know that most of you will respond to my post saying this deal would only be done because of the Sox financial situation, I'm aware of that. It's just a thought that crossed my mind. Please discuss... CWSOX45

Matt Clement should be the White Sox number one priority. It would stengthen our starting rotation drastically, the White Sox haven't had a solid 1-5 rotation in a LONG time. Not only is Clement a great pitcher, he actually wants to stay in Chicago!! It doesn't get much easier, SIGN HIM KENNY! CWSOX45

Whoops. Just saw it on the Future Sox boards. Should be interesting to see what takes place from now til the Fest. CWSOX45

Saw this on WhiteSoxInteractive, thought I'd post it here. Ryan Meaux was released from the Sox today..that leaves a spot open on our 40 man roster......perhaps something will go down in the next few days? CWSOX45

If we have a choice between a starting pitcher and a catcher, I along with mostly everyone on this website would prefer the starting pitcher, but if Jerry is willing to supply us with both, then hell, why not? CWSOX45
