  1. Ozzie says he might will start Dunn at 1st during the next home stand, for one game. via
  2. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 04:27 PM) ahahahahaha and this was the second one! http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/01/22/gua...rder/index.html Awesome website Balta! LOL "Here's_a_list_of_things_that _might_not_even_be_true_that_we_will_credit_Obama_for_accomplishing.com"
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 04:27 PM) No, but the other $700 billion in spending did, and the upper class tax cuts in there, although small, again didn't hurt...it's pushing in the inflationary direction. If you're going to argue that you'd rather have no stimulus bill you guys are out of your minds completely. Go read what was in that bill. Any President in that situation would have done something quite similar. I don't care which party they're from.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 04:25 PM) You guys seem like the type who would benefit from this site. http://tinyurl.com/2fl9gzk (Profanity in the website title so I used tiny) Big deal. You could probably create a similar one for GWB and make him look like a great leader.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 04:23 PM) So, "preventing a 2nd great depression" = 5 pounds of s***? yeah, I'll eat that to avoid another depression. So you agree that cutting taxes for the rich is what prevented a 2nd Great Depression.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 04:18 PM) Would we have been better had that bill not passed? I have higher expectations than what they did. We deserve better as a nation.
  7. Here's a few of Obama's campaign promises. Guess how many of these were broken? Repeal the Bush tax cuts for higher incomes Sign the Employee Free Choice Act, making it easier for workers to unionize Forbid companies in bankruptcy from giving executives bonuses Create a foreclosure prevention fund for homeowners Close the Guantanamo Bay Detention Center Expand the child and dependent care credit Increase the capital gains and dividends taxes for higher-income taxpayers Close loopholes in the corporate tax deductibility of CEO pay End income tax for seniors making less than $50,000 End no-bid federal contracts above $25,000 Allow imported prescription drugs Change federal rules so small businesses owned by people with disabilities can get preferential treatment for federal contracts. Form international group to help Iraq refugees Restore habeas corpus rights for "enemy combatants" Restrict warrantless wiretaps Allow five days of public comment before signing bills Tougher rules against revolving door for lobbyists and former officials Double funding for afterschool programs Urge states to treat same-sex couples with full equality in their family and adoption laws Reduce earmarks to 1994 levels Enact windfall profits tax for oil companies Create cap and trade system with interim goals to reduce global warming Require plug-in fleet at the White House Provide an annual report on "state of our energy future" Allow penalty-free hardship withdrawals from retirement accounts in 2008 and 2009 Negotiate health care reform in public sessions televised on C-SPAN Create a public option health plan for a new National Health Insurance Exchange. Introduce a comprehensive immigration bill in the first year
  8. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 03:56 PM) Excellent response.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 03:52 PM) What you're missing is that we actually gave a real life test to your proposal in 2000. The Dems ran a tree stump as their candidate Enough people voted for Ralph Nader to help GWB become President. Fixed
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 03:45 PM) .you'd rather have national unions dismantled You mean like the ones being dismantled while Obama is in office?
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 03:42 PM) Well, clearly he's been voted out of office because you refused to vote for him. I meant past tense (i.e., Wisconsin & Ohio).
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 03:36 PM) Here's one more point for you guys...the Republicans have also proven to be more than happy to use the infrastructure of government as a tool to make sure that Republicans stay in power. The Bush administration's Attorney firing/DOJ politicization is a good starting point. The dismantling of the Unions is a more recent, much more active one. here's a non-farfetched hypothetical. Imagine that you cast a protest vote in 2012, Obama loses, and one of the first steps is to ban collective bargaining amongst national public employee unions, Wisconsin-style. The kind of progressive change that the Unions support would be gone, as would any chance of future progressive change. That'd be it and you know it. Where is Obama during any of this? Didn't he say once that he'd stand with the Unions if they ever tried to ban collective bargaining?
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 12:59 PM) I loved the fighter most from last year. Same here.
  14. Enjoy another 4 years of disappointment and the status quo.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 03:21 PM) So why do you insist on casting a vote that will make both of those things happen? Casting my vote for Obama will also ensure that these things happen. It will also ensure that we continue to occupy two, potentially 3, countries in the middle east and maintain a bloated Military Industrial Complex.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 03:17 PM) Oh, so wait, you're willing to accept that sometimes the administration does share your values. So your vote is not against the administration sharing your values on some issues, it's a question of which issues you prioritize. And the current Democratic leadership isn't addressing most priorities I find important. Cutting off heating oil subsidies for poor isn't a priority of mine. Neither is giving billionaires and corporations tax breaks.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 03:15 PM) And since the Adminstration has now turned its back on that period, and you said that this administration doesn't share your values, that means you went from opposing legalized discrimination to supporting it. Why did you decide last december to support legalized discrimination of homosexuals? GMAFB with your lame argument. And why do you oppose gay marriage? I don't. See 2 can play at that.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 03:13 PM) So why do your values include discrimination against homosexuals? Huh? Obama was fine with discriminating against homosexuals for 2 years before he bothered to do anything.
  19. Sorry but this administration doesn't behave in a way that reflects my values. Lets just keep extending those tax cuts for the wealthy!
  20. Why did your beloved Obama hire the same "economic gurus" that were instrumental in the financial collapse?
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 03:03 PM) Which of those names would have launched a full scale invasion of Iraq in 2003? At this point I could see the answer being "all of the above".
  22. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 02:29 PM) My fiance just found out she's got a teaching job for next year!
  23. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Apr 26, 2011 -> 01:54 PM) Isn't the Sox BP was done before the gates open? Lamar owns a helicopter.
  24. Today's Rays/Twins game already cancelled. Double header on Thursday.
