Pleading ignorance here. The Libyan rebels were very specific with their requests? They asked for continued airstrikes and no ground troops? When were these requests made?

QUOTE (Capn12 @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 12:42 PM) Chicken Little sandwich from KFC. $0.50 each, could load up a bag of em for less than $10. And, sadly, thats probably the last time I've eaten at KFC habitually. You should try it more often. They even give you a bucket to vomit their crap into.

via The key here is "increased use of heavy weapons" which means it has already begun and they are concerned that it will increase.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 12:18 PM) We should help the Ivory Coast. The UN has failed there completely, as has the Obama administration. They haven't completely failed. They have 7K troops in a country with a population over 20 million. That should do it!

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 12:16 PM) And so far no one has provided a shred of evidence that the UN wants to act differently in the Ivory Coast, but that the US is preventing it. (For the sake of argument Im just going to assume that the UN would not have acted without US approval.) So b**** about the UN all you want (I personally think thats a legitimate argument), but the US cant be responsible for making every tough decision. So far not once has the UN said they wanted more assistance in the Ivory Coast from the US, so to say that it wants it, is entirely speculation unsupported by fact. That's the problem. Neither the UN or the US seem to really care about what's going on in the Ivory Coast. I had people quoted as asking for more help in my previous posts yet where is that help they are requesting?

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 12:07 PM) Its not inconsistencies of the US, its inconsistencies of the UN. I hate to break it to you, but the US was not the one pushing for action in Libya, it was the French and English. The US army is merely a tool of the UN when it comes to UN enforcement. All of these articles that attack the US, should be attacking the UN. False! You love breaking it to me.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 11:51 AM) But the argument still doesnt make sense. On one hand you want the US to be more active in Ivory Coast, even though the UN has not requested it, and on the other you want the US to be less active in Libya, when the UN requests it. The "humanitarian" label is hogwash. I'm not advocating the US intervene in either scenario. I'm just pointing out glaring inconsistencies by the US.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 11:45 AM) Cheap tickets for the Sox. I still remember (because it was just like 7 years ago) when you could show up at the park 10 minutes before the game, buy the cheapest upper deck ticket, and end up sitting right behind the dugout. Cheap tickets = crappy product on the field

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 11:34 AM) Legitimate argument and one that doesnt distort the facts. Im of the opposite belief. If we get involved in crises that do not immediately give us or our allies gain, it provides us legitimacy (imo). It shows that we are a country that not only cares about ourselves, but cares about the rest of the world. Not every American agrees with that, and I respect the difference of opinion. The people who infuriate me are the ones who say that they want to help, but make up nonsensical excuses about why we cant help due to other wars or that we havent helped everyone equally. Nothing is ever equal, we do the best that we can, and quite frankly there are plenty of people who would prefer we do nothing. Why aren't you so gung ho about US involvement in a rapidly deteriorating situation in the Ivory Coast? And there's a difference in UN intervention and US intervention. The US proactively set forth to assist in Libya. I see nothing of the sort in the Ivory Coast.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 10:58 AM) I had someone ask me to copy their old VHS wedding video over to a DVD. There is a lot of what I am calling "wobble" were you get the horizontal wavy lines int he video. there's a lot of degradation. I've tried adjusting the tracking, but that doesnt seem to work. Any other suggestions? I am trying to save this as much as possible, Just hand them a blank DVD. I guarantee they will never watch it.

Too bad he wasn't elected instead of Obama. via

Well Jenks I was arguing that this isn't a humanitarian issue as others have claimed. It may be humanitarian in their eyes but it's probably #64 on the list of reasons why the US is involved.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 17, 2011 -> 08:28 PM) You cant just authorize military action without ascertaining the facts. The US was wise in the long run to take their time and make sure that we got universal approval. The US is trying to learn lessons from Iraq, Kosovo, but at the same time not forget that we can hopefully help other people for the better. The US did not have the political capital to act to quickly, that is just the sad reality. Not only that, but there are still people who are going to be against our intervention. Germany, Brazil, India, Russia and China Those 5 countries didnt even vote. You can say Obama had no balls, but we once again are going to be the first ones in. We have to be realistic about our ability to intervene, we still are doing far more than anyone else. Except for the innocent civilians in the Ivory Coast.

Ivory Coast Leader Threatens Journalists UN alarmed over heavy weapons use in Ivory Coast And finally... Why Can't Ivory Coast Get A No-Fly Zone Like Libya? The key words "use legitimate force" and not 7K troops spread over an entire country. You can't tell me air strikes like those in Libya aren't more effective than 7K troops in a country of millions. And why isn't the US all gung ho to help out like they did in Libya?
